  1. Haha nice pic of me watching you guys work
  2. Cool I'll be there Sunday.
  3. Wow dude this is great news, cant wait to check it out! Will walk down the trail next time im in Tokai Im really curious as to where the trail exactly is going down, we need more info When you got a trail date drop me a message/mail id be very keen to help out.
  4. Hi guys just want to say thanks for the work over the weekend I havent been to Tokai for about 5 weeks but reading the report it sounds like quite a lot of work was done. I really want to try and get to Tokai soon to check it out. I think that technical areas on the route is great and can be present on a trail without making the trail unsustainable. Tokai has a much higher concentration of really skilled riders than anywhere else and its great to have a place that accommodates those that are into the "fun" aspect of the sport My personal opinion: I think something that will solve a lot of the problems we currently have with riders making new trails and riding around stuff is if there are more obstacles / tech areas that accommodates experienced riders as well as beginner riders that would like to get into the more technical aspect of the sport. These are things like tabletops, rollers and drop-offs with a ramp just after the drop itself. So the experienced guy can still jump the thing etc while the beginner guy can start going faster and faster in a safe controlled way until his/her skill increased enough to clear the whole thing. This would be a great way to get people's skill up. And the most important thing - the trail is fun for everyone to ride. Basically what Im trying to say is I think there are a lot of people who would also like to jump stuff, ride fast and generally have fun but don't quite know where to start, perhaps they injured themselves bad previously attempting something that they weren't quite ready for and are now permanently against doing any of the technical areas while actually they should be enjoying it and having fun. I think the fact that there are alot of XC beginner riders riding down the downhill track dragging their wheels etc proves that there are people that want to learn, but don't know quite where to start which would actually have been a good thing were it not for the trail damage. Aaanyway if there is another trailbuilding session let me know I missed this one but would be very keen to help out again sometime in the future
  5. Sounds great well done on sorting out the land access issues.
  6. Hi Im posting this under gravity since I found it lying in the sand while pushing up the top downhill section at Tokai about 2 weeks ago. Put it in my camelback and forgot all about it, until I cleaned my camelback yesterday. So if it belongs to you drop me a message. I'm guessing this is could be a difficult thing to get from the agents?
  7. So how did this track turn out to be?
  8. Hi would just like to add if you know what hub and rim you are using, you should be able to calculate the spoke length yourself, try searching google for spoke length calculator. The manufacturers website should contain the correct values you need. You can also search for a file spocalc.xls this Excel spreadsheet contains a lot of sizes for many components pre-entered.
  9. Yeah these are perfect for a trail/all mountain bike and Ive been thinking of spending the cash for one myself. I like the reverb but I've heard that it needs to be blead quite regularly to maintain best performance. I see the KS is operated by a cable so this might be less maintenance. Hmmm, what would the main advantage be to have a hydraulic system for an adjustable seatpost?
  10. That's very true. I have bar ends and just cant seem to get rid of them, they help me so much when climbing. Still got them even after wiping out and loosing a fair amount of skin when one of them got stuck in the bushes while going quite fast
  11. Ok no problem man glad I asked first.
  12. Hi just wanted to say I checked out the trails on Saturday and enjoyed it a lot. Even though it was jeeptrack I thought the sights and scenery was really spectacular. One thing I want to mention though is that its quite easy to take too little water on this ride and maybe people should be made aware that this ride requires at least 2 liters of water. If some singletrack is going to be built on the route it would be great, please keep us updated I checked out some of the guys riding their MX bikes down a really steep track on Saturday and it looked like a lot of fun. Can I perhaps ask if the guys that have a bit longer travel bikes be allowed to do this route as well? Looks like it is currently marked as a hiking trail aswell so dont want to upset anyone by doing it if it's not officially allowed. Anyway thanks for putting in the effort I'm sure a lot of work goes into planning something like this
  13. Hey man I dunno sounds more like a kiddies track to me, could be wrong but quoting the section just below: Nitida will shortly fulfill it's role as the Junior, Novice and beginner destination of choice, offering a selection of easy to moderate obstacles for all to hone their bike handling skills before venturing out onto the 'grown-up' trails. With grown-up trails they mean XC trails around like Hillcrest etc so yeah
  14. For mountain-biking I find Rock and Roll Blue and Purple extreme to both be very good. Used to use squirt but it doesnt last very long in the mud, and can cause some buildup on the cassette, chainrings and derailleur pulleys which can lead to poorer shifting performance. One important thing with the 2 products I mentioned is that you need to apply the lube say 30mins or so before you ride. Spin the pedals a bit while shifting to get the lube to penetrate inside the chain rollers. After the 30 mins wipe the chain really clean with an old rag. The lube will still be present between the pins and rollers and now you have a clean chain which won't attract dust / mud as easily.
  15. I also really like the idea of a course that everyone can enjoy to ride, and I think it can be possible with tabletops and drops with gradients that can be rolled down by the slower guys or jumped by the faster guys. This will help to get people to progress in a much safer manner. At the moment IMHO the skills gap between riders are rather huge and that is creating a lot of the problems regarding people getting in each others way. Sure there will always be guys that prefer the jeeptrack up and down but I feel we should try and help the guys that are atleast interested in trying out the singletrack and progressing. This is the only way we going to get the technical side of the sport to grow. Paid labour can be used to move earth and dig holes etc but I think in the end the preparing of jumps and course layout etc should be done by volunteer riders who know what it should look like to flow nicely.

    Super D

At dirtopia festival 2 years back they had one it was awesome. Basically we were all freeriding down a plowed grass hill. There were however gates setup on the hill which you had to go through to keep everyone going in the right direction but what line you took to go through them was entirely up to the rider. What I really enjoyed about this race is that both downhillers, trail/AM riders and XC'ers riders took part, the downhill guys had the advantage on the down sections while the XC guys was able to catch up a bit on the short not too steep uphills. The course was definitely focused on technical riding though and it was a mix of dh guys and trail riders that finished first at the end (was won buy a Morewood shova if I remember correctly).
  17. So what exactly is wrong with Bell helmets? Or should we only avoid the crappy ones?
  18. Sooo almost 1st of April, will I be able to ride these routes on Saturday?
  19. Thanks man, yeah I rode a bit on Friday afternoon and saw you did some work on Vasbyt aswell its riding very nicely! Next time Im sure ill be able to find some more guys to help out just let us know a couple of days beforehand
  20. I think we first need to be able to properly maintain the current trails that we have before thinking of starting any new trails. Take for example a trail like Cobra, awesome trail but it really needs some work and very few people are still riding it. So how about rather first fixing up what we already have, the worst thing that can happen is if there are 10s of badly eroded trails all over the mountain, I dont think the conservation people (and anyone else for that matter) would be very happy to see that.
  21. According to the brochure at Westlake TMNP office: 1) Permitted on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays 2) Have a valid permit 3) Sign register when entering the gate 4) Minimum 3 riders 5) Minimum 2 cellphones 6) Sign register when exiting the gate 7) No entry after 20:00 8) No riding after 22:00 9) Parking at own risk 10) No riding in Silvermine Id suggest you buy a permit from the hut and try it first if you like it then get a annual permit from the westlake office. EDIT: Oh I forgot 11) Each rider has own light and helmet (pretty obvious though id suggest taking a backup light aswell) I've been doing this for awhile and its super fun
  22. I know for a fact Raceface makes chainrings that fits this crank. That is, if Raceface still exists... One thing you'll need to look out for when using a different model of chainring is that the tabs (into which the chainring bolts screw) can be longer for certain cranks. This can be an issue even when using the same manufacturer's products. I once tried to fit a Shimano XT middle blade to a Shimano Deore crank and it didnt work because the tabs were too long and didnt fit into the slots on the Deore crankarm.
  23. You'll prob be able to but check on the manufacturer's website whether your rims were designed to handle that size of tyre. Frame and fork clearance would not be an issue especially if you already got lots of clearance with your 2.1s.
  24. If I go to a bike shop with a bike ill just take the bike inside with me when shopping. If they have a problem with that its not a real bike shop. As for the other places like shopping malls etc where it might not be appropriate to take the bike inside it would be great if they can have a bike stand right next to the entrance where the security guard is standing it doesn't cost that much.
  25. You can always use non-UST tyres & tubes on your UST rims when you need to. Actually you can run certain non-UST tyres as tubeless aswell. Th 819 is also a bit stronger than the 719.
