  1. Yip. What I used to do as well.
  2. Gees. Thanks for the info. Basically what you are saying is that the Hub activity might be going down and us expats might have to help keep the hub going (when the server is up)
  3. Care to elaborate for us folk who can't watch at the moment?
  4. I see Lufthansa has place an order for 20 B787 and is also expanding their A350 fleet. They will be getting rid of the A380 and eventually the B747 Interresting how they diversify their fleet. Edit. They ordered 20 787 and 20 A350 aircraft. This will replace the ageing A340 fleet and 6 A380 will be returned to Airbus. Somehow think they might get passed on to Emirates then. At the end the only 4 engined aircraft in the fleet will be the 747-8 fleet.
  5. Thats what my wife also said
  6. Remember once watching an episode of Air Accident Investigation of a DC10 that went down after the cargo door ripped out and with the resulting depresurisation (spelling) the cabin floor got ripped down ripping the haudralic lines lines apart. The Aircraft hit the ground (not vertically) at well over 400 knots. The relatives had to identify the victims by what belongins they could find as there was hardly big enough body parts to identify the passangers. Once guy found the ring of his fiance. The rings was not round anymore.
  7. What incident was this?
  8. Saw the pics this morning. Pretty banged up.
  9. When I said reported on I meant in the media. What is interresting is that two of the aircraft are Air France aircraft. Do they also use Rolls Royce? Quantas was RR and it was design flaw with the RR engine. I remember many years ago (2001 if I remember correctly) a co-worker of mine on his way to France experienced a engine blowup on takeoff at ORT. Engine popped and the takeoff aborted. Low and behold ... it was an Air France A340.
  10. I know of these two with Air France and then the biggy with Quantas. Would not say it is that many. Engine failures do happen more than you think. It just is not reported on as much.
  11. The FAA has been linked to favouratism in the past. As I mentioned before the DC10 had a pretty rough start as well with quite a few Fatal accidents which was later attributed to a design flaw of the rear cargo door. As the investigation turned its attention to this it came out that the FAA actually had reservations in giving the DC10 its air worthiness due to this but none the less approved it. The FAA is now under massive pressure and actually has no choice. Should there be any other incidents (and it does not have to be a fatal accident), the press would be on it and it could blow up badly in the face of the FAA. Airbus might just kickstart the A380 program again to fly in all the lawyers for the lawsuits.
  12. I am thinking more and more that this is the case. That they do not have a clear answer on what caused the Lion Air crash. The fact that CNN reported several incidents that are currently on investigation in the US supports this theory. The aircraft is pretty much grounded in several parts of the world with no exact reason other than uncertainty.
  13. Yip. I understand what you are saying. In IT myself and very much agree with the bold bit. But if they can't find it then take out the problem component / code ... quick.
  14. As long as they find the real cause of the problem and deal with it quickly and efffectively. Should the problem be similar to the Air Lion problem then it means they have not fixed it after the first accident. Very bad for them. Back in the day the DC10 also had a very bad start due to a badly designed cargo door. It took a few crashes before they could actually find the problem. Airbus also had a bad crash back in the day with the A320 due to a software bug. Problem got fixed and the A320 has a pretty good safety record.
  15. I see that Germany has banned the 737 Max 8 from flying in German Airspace yesterday.
  16. That is a very interresting eye witness account.
  17. Just saw aerial footage of the crash site. That plane hit the ground at quite a speed. Could not see any large pieces of wreckage
  18. Yip. He was on my FB as well and still miss his pics of his dogs, drawings or viewing Gautrain Stations from a different angle.
  19. Yes they do. SOrry no they don't .... yet. They have some on order and will only take delivery next year. https://www.boeing.com/commercial/customers/comair-limited/comair-787-800-delivery.page
  20. This is very bad news for the Boeing 737 Max. The Indonesian crash last year October was also a 737 8Max, also shorty after takeoff.
  21. I hope they pay for the beers on Fridays
  22. Good tip. Luckily I have not had so many technicals ever on a ride that I had to use it twice
  23. I have a set of latex gloves in my tool kit. When dealing with a mechanical issue, especially the chain I put the gloves on and dispose of afterwords.
  24. I remember quite a few years ago on a Comair (think it was BA) flight we were due to take off before a SAA flight but in the pushback we also got held up and had to wait for the SAA flight which just like us was on their way to CPT. Captain still made a remark about the hold up. We somewhere overtook that aircraft in the air and landed before the SAA flight. As we parked in CPT we had to wait for the stairs again and the SAA flight passangers got off before us.
  25. Flightstar did not last long. Was it not one of their aircraft that lost an engine on take-off in Cape Town? Nope sorry it was Nationwide ... https://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/plane-loses-engine-during-take-off-377999
