  3. I did the 40 km (looked about 38/39 km) and enjoyed it. Well organised, nice atmosphere, good water points and a great view at the top of the big climb to the mast. The sandy section(s) were tough, but fun as long as you kept peddling like crazy! Nice event overall.

  5. Great to hear. Thanks for taking the time to reply!
  6. Just after I entered the 40 km!
  7. Was the entry fee more than other races? Yes. Was it any less enjoyable than other races? Not at all. It was a seriously tough route, reminded me of the old Lourensford MTB races. Plus it was bloody hot! The singletrack was great and not everyone easily has access to these trails, so it was fun to experience them for the first time and have the added plus of water points along the way. There were far too many people in front of me who just simply stopped going up a climb that was more than ride-able, but that's what happens when you get seeded badly. And yes, far too many people wearing out brake pads on the descents. But all in all, it was a proper ride. ~1,300 m elevation gain in 45 km is never easy.

  9. That was bloody tough! The heat didn't help either. Congrats on your result.

  14. Sad. Get well soon!
  15. Thanks cfcjim. That's when I was hoping to go through the harbour, as I'm sure the cycle path is pretty quite then.
  16. Thanks for the feedback. Personally, I'd rather take my chances with traffic than against criminals trying to steal my bike and injure me in the process.
  17. Eish. Seriously?
  18. Are cyclists allowed to ride through the harbour along Duncan Road to get into the CBD? https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/Duncan+Rd,+Cape+Town/@-33.9177793,18.439202,15.38z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x1dcc5d92f596e21f:0xb0152f891665f80f I notice quite a bit of activity on Strava along that stretch, so it seems people are doing it. Seems a lot safer than going behind Paarden Eiland and through Salt River + Woodstock along the cycle path.

  21. I was driving towards town along Albert road yesterday afternoon and car after car was parked in the cycle lane. The problem is on the right-hand lane (facing the city) where the cycle lane is right up against the pavement. The other lane, has the parking bays between the pavement and the cycle lane (also stupid), but apart from trucks using it as a loading zone, I didn't see any cars parked. What a waste of money.
  22. Since when does the Cycle Tour go anywhere near Blouberg?
  23. Agreed. This is a law enforcement/SAPS/ANC/Jacob Zuma's (lol, he does nothing) job. However, I think if the PPA puts pressure on the relevant authorities, it carries a lot more weight than you or I posting on "The Hub SA" or on Twitter, etc. It's not their job to enforce it, but to ensure that the correct people are.
