  1. Is Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine (HCL)the same thing? If not are they both baned?
  2. Carlo - SQ Am I going to be the legend killer? - but John and I are both born on the 9th Nov - must be a fine day to be born Hennie Wenzel I think is 1 or 2 days later! But I am half his age - well almost! Already some 18 sub 3hrs I think and 3 sub 2:30H
  3. More on the hit and run. They have also named the driver in the article. http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?art_id=vn20081118122710905C686321&set_id=1&click_id=13&sf= Morne Jones, 34 of Simons Town... Phone book.... hmm not listed, probably still lives with his parents... Diarise folks, January 30th, simons town court house. en masse. The scumf**k will no doubt plead not guilty
  4. Golefty!! I wrote this as a fellow cyclist who past the accident scene at about 7:00am Sat morning not as a PPA eco member. I more or less feel the same way about committee as anyone else does! The phrase turning a large ship comes to mind - nothing happens quickly. I have done many protest ride etc but they don't seem to really work. Maybe by cyclist been on mass at the court more notice will be taken and a punishment to fit the crime will be sentenced on this driver which will hopefully set a precedent for future cases involving bicycle riders anywhere in the country.
  5. Skye - sorry only read your post now on appearing in court today. Cyclist should we not all / as many as possible try and be at the court for the 2nd court appearance? We all have been affected by this and the punishment need to be more than just a slap on the wrist!
  6. Yup I think the weather may have won tonights fight!
  7. It easy to paint Carbon been managing the process for years - if you in Cape Town I can help
  8. that was stop!
  9. Nice fast 1 tonight up till spot Avg 46.7Km/h!
  10. Yo Anton - where have you learnt to write such good English - you were the Afrikaans (Rooi Kop)kid in Canada - (I was your asst manager their) amongst other events. So are you really going to start racing again? Good luck with the training! For all you Hubbers I can assure you Antons schedule of result are quite true so show some respect! One of the biggest problems in Cycling over the past 15 years is that we have not had any local rider to admire like we did in the old days (Alan van Heerden, Willie Englebrecht, Andrew McLean ate). For the sport to grow even bigger we need more local super stars in cycling! Or maybe a the petrol increasing in price 5 fold!
  11. Yup I ride for fun - I don't get paid to ride my bike! But I am about to go and have about 3hrs of fun now (who knows who - been distracted). The weather is perfect in CT. Konafan - out of interest how many SA medals have you won in your lifetime?
  12. Funride world champs versus SA road champs - world champs will always win.! The old SACF tried this many years ago by having the Report cup track meeting a very prestigious meeting on the same weekend many years ago needless to say the Argus still go on but the Report cup doesn't
  13. Ok I live in a dream world - or cycled / driven in Europe to often! But Skype, isn't what you did the legally correct thing and thus were an example to the motorist behind you? If I recall most if not all of that road has a solid barrier line and thus it is illegal to overtake another vehicle on a solid line (yes in this country a cyclist is classified as a vehicle). By the way been completely legal you should also indicate to overtake a cyclist and do it in the other lane / other side of the road! A cyclist has the right to ride anywhere up to the white line - but their is a 2nd law in RSA which says vehicles should stay as far left as possible on all roads in SA and thus cyclist tend to ride on the left side and not in the middle of the lane unless the road is very bad (pot holes - too narrow) and then I urge all cyclist to use the lane. I do not think many motorist would willing mow over a cyclist provided they have seen you so once you have 1 car behind you pretty safe to move further from the side of the road. The stretch of road from Fishhoek to Miuzenburg is a perfect example where it is not that safe for a motorist to pass a cyclist and with a SE a cyclist can almost do the recommended speed limit on that road without to much effort - the recommended speed limit on that road I believe is 40km/h. Now on the other hand if motorist were to also obey the rule of staying left then I am sure a lot of road rage which I feel is unnecessary taken out on cyclist on road with 60km/h speed limits or less would be avoided. Imagine the fast lane on the freeways in this country were only used for passing and not for driving in when the traffic is free flowing! Keep left pass right how much less road rage their would be on the roads! If only motorist were as considerate to fellow motorist as cyclist are considerate to motorist by staying left! This normally even means a motorist can overtake a cyclist on solid barrier line which is technically illegal! I urge all cyclist to drive properly when in their cars thus setting an example to fellow motorist esp. when it comes to overtaking cyclist and blocking the fast lane on the freeways which may cause another motorist road rage which is then taken out on a cyclist at a latter stage. Finally speed limits change depending on the road you on but the law stay as far left as possible is on all roads - if a motorist is speeding it is not another motorists job to do speed control by sitting in the fast lane at 120km/h their are law enforcement officers and static cameras for that. Right now even more so as Xmas is coming up - please allow the traffic officers their Xmas bonuses! Yup my dream world I know!
  14. As indicated above probably the hardest part of the job is cleaning and preparing the surfaces. If the lug is completely lose than it not so dificult, but if is still attcahed to part of the frame it becomes quite difficult.
  15. Go to the web site www.pearl-cycles.com The Grace SL - the white bike that Mat rides retails in Germany for 1850 euro frame and fork. The frame raw (no painting) weight is 970g. The Dice - the frame I ride is about 350 euro more
  16. To bring some clarity. Pearl is a brand I import from Germany - there is a South African connection their as the owner (who is a South African) of the brand grew up in RSA and went SACS school but immigrated to Germany towards the end of the 80ies. The product are of the highest quality and have had some really good reviews in Europe. As far as the SA market for Pearl all this frames are available at a reasonably short notices, but I don't want to fall into the trap that STEVENS did and that is to over capitalise on marketing and end up stopping the product a few years on. As far as the EDGE thing goes - well all I can say is WE and I still work very closely.
  17. I did a repair on Davids TT Cervelo earlier this year which meant it needed to be reprayed - SO well....... But for sure it is a lightweight disc wheel
  18. Re design them to float - one company has done this - seems like the way forward to me then if they are not 100% straight it not a big deal! But I am a roadie!
  19. If you need to doping for local SA racing you must be useless! I can honestly say I never even thought about it when I raced as a semi pro (1 x Rapport tour, 9 x Giro del Capo's, 3 x Argus cycle tour under 2h30 and a total of 25). My racing weight then was already 85kg. This past month was the 1st time in my life I even gave into antibiotics for a really bad cold. More recently I have tried some legal stuff for weight control those who no me yes at 96kg those hills are harder! My favourite juice for my water bottle is peach ice tea or sugar and water and a bit of coke - you can get it at any corner caf? and when you on tour that maybe all you can find, and before you guys say I must be really old I am only 35!
  20. Carbon for bike is great. Titanium for bikes is great. Currently their are Carbon Titanium bikes available trying to maximise the best tubing material depending on the location of the tube on the frame for maximum stiffness and comfort. I am sure within the next 10 year the material been used for bikes will be a carbon Ti (or a similar metal) weave which would hopefully allow a lower resin content and thus even allow for lighter frames without compromising stiffness and comfort! Watch this space!
  21. Yup - sorry when I see felt I only thenk of road bikes - my mistake
  22. What size are you? I have one Scott speedster S1 allu frame carbon fork with ultegra which would be on the upper limit of the budget.
