  1. Did CWC have any XT wheels to start off with? I still have 1 sets of XT wheels left for an internationally very good price of R2995.00 Regards Peter
  2. And so they should be! Betwean CWC and myself we are trying very hard to keep the business in the RSA ecconomy. Hopefully within time you guys will not have to take your money to CRC - which does nothing for the SA ecconomy!
  3. Airlines should be taxed if taking off at under weight! Recently I flew Amsterdam Cape Town, plane was 100% full and even a jump seat was been used by a employer who was going on holiday to Cape Town. I asked the captain all the questions on plane weight and he explain it all depends on weather take off conditions as to best take off weight. He then told be the plane was 20tons under weight! What a wast! Airlines should be taxed for been underweight rather than you and I been charged for been over 20 kg!

  5. The probability of myself or any of the cyclist I have coached been taken out by an 18 wheeler on a freeway is very low as less than 0.01% of training time is spent on such roads. The probability of been hit by a car in RSA whilst cycling on normal roads unfortunately is still quite high. But I enjoy cycling and have been for several years - it is what feeds my life. So risk versas rewards - I will continue to cycle! Even though I know the risk factor.
  6. M3 Freeway speed limit 100km/h and drops to 70km/h but never 120km/h
  7. I have been recently criticized for taking a cyclist motor pacing along a freeway (m3 north i.e. heading towards Cape Town between the end of the freeway and ladies Mile turn off). Now before anything is said - in the country we live in: 1. People walk along freeways i.e. N2 and N1 before Somerset west and Paarl on a daily basis - they even have soccer / boxing train on the side of the road. People run across these road all day and every day and yes they get killed - I know 1st hand as close family member hit a road crosser accidentally back in the early 90ies dead. 2. As already mentioned by the starter of this tread it may be safer to ride on the freeway than back road as their is a nice wide shoulder etc, so the problem he is concerned with is the fact it is illegal and put cycling in negative lite. This point is taken and normally for this reason we do not use the freeway to train on. 3. BYE the BYE The protest ride - yes that is what it was intended to be - the 2nd weekend of March in Cape Town - also used the M3 freeway yes it is now closed to traffic while 35 000 cyclist make their way along it but this is only in the past approximately 15 years, I think, and certainly was not the case when I rode it for the 1st time 26 years back. So why do I choose to use the freeway for motor pacing - only half the circuit the other half is through Tokai forest. Once again as the started of this thread has mentioned their are long stretched on road inside yellow lines without traffic hazards so it is ideal for this form of training. But these are the other precautions I have taken into consideration as safety must be No.1: 1. I had a driver in a car drive behind (me on a scooter) - to create as much as a controlled environment as possible. 2. We have chosen a time to use the public road when they are least busy and traffic is a minimal I.e. after 6 closer to 6:30 in the evening as most people are home from work and we are heading in the opposite direction of the traffic - believe it or not the roads are quite, quite. In Cape Town it is still light till 8 so it gave us an 1 hour 15min of hard training 3. Once again for reasons of traffic it is best to use roads where their are emergency lanes - not that common in the Southern Suburbs - Cape Town, so yes for half the circuit we are on a road that has this feature and it is the safest part of the circuit. I certainly am not using this road as it is illegal - if it was not a freeway I would still choose this circuit, but unfortunately it is - so as a self employed person who weight up risk versa reward everyday - I feel the risks are worth it and legally what would the outcome be? A slap on the wrist and asked to get off the freeway as soon as possible or a traffic fine - no different to the fines we get when speed in our motors cars! Fines which we are now been urged to be paid to do pothole work since the rains came in JHB. Is a fine an offense or a necessary revenue collection norm (in this country accepted revenue collection) for road maintenance? Am I doing my best to be considerate to fellow road users YES reasons above. Have I had to slow down quite quickly on the forest road in the past almost causing an accident as a motorist pulls out a side street giving zero consideration to fellow road users - yes but thankfully only once and many years back, has this ever happened / or can it even happen while on the M3 no! Safety 1st and then there's that saying: Rules are for the guidance of wise men and for fools to follow! So yup it may be illegal but it is the safest place to do this form of high end training which is required for a top athlete to hit peak performance for World / SA champs. Would I suggest a Funrider to train in the manor most definitely not! Is it necessary for normal training to be on a freeway - in CT their are many other nicer / scenic roads to train on - I much prefer Chapman's peak drive for normal train compared to the M3 freeway. I must admit what I have an issue is Why fellow cyclist are the 1st to pull cyclist up! Trying to act as judge jury and executioner is not our place as mere citizen of the country! In a perfect world (less than perfect RSA government as revenue collection from fines would be zero) nobody would ever get a fine / do illegal things, be it speeding, talking on a cell ph while driving, in the right lane when not overtaking - Keep Left (so people can) Pass right - 1st rule of the road, Jwalking etc - these thing happen on a daily basis in RSA with little said. Maybe if you the car behind the driver who has just answered his cell in the fast lane of a freeway at 120km/h who now slows to 80km/h you have every right to get annoyed as the driver of the 1st car has been completely inconsiderate for not moving to the left lane and thus deserves a piece of your mind, but normally in this country if you are not adversely affecting other people nothing is said UNLESS IT'S A CYCLIST! How often when somebody is Jwalking do you a motorist slow down and show with the hand to pass as apposed to accelerate to kill - as its illegal to Jwalk? Well I hope its the former as apposed to the latter! A Radio add on drinking and driving currently on 5FM suggest it legal for kids to play in the streets - my feeling is that is untrue but that is currently been put out on the airwaves! In closing, in the law their is back and white but in real life situations for RSA their are a lot of grey areas and what is illegal has become the norm and accepted by authorities! My personnel sentiment to this is if you are not causing injury to anyone else or in-convincing other members of the public and not putting your own life under abnormal risk but possibly for your own self creating a safer situation the problem is to small to be made an issue off!
  8. But Icycling, you buy your stock from Europe to avoid the local distrubutors? Incorrect - I get some of my stock from the local agents! Shimano, I believe, I probably pay less from my European suppliers than the RSA Shimano agent does direct from Shimano due to the nature of Shimano price structure! If this is correct then still less rands leave the country!
  9. Capricorn agreed on service centers - but now they need to charge an hourly rate similar to that of a plumber to service which they currently are not doing! So they still not getting ahead and a lot of these service centers will also close.
  10. Andyr249 so we allow the Europeans to buy our wealth with our money - GREAT. Then some local raids the place to steel well at least the contents of it back!
  11. As I have made many comments on this topic in the past. Please remember for each rands spent our of RSA well certainly in the cycling circles it probably equates to 1 less R1 spent in the local economy. So directly you may be saving 50c but indirectly you are eroding the RSA economy - which in turn may cost even you your job if you work in RSA a part of the RSA economy and certainly reduces the TAX collection in RSA, which is I think, the government is the biggest employer in this country. Jobs get lost crime increase - that's been shown. It was the US presidents mission last year to get the US people spending again to boast the US economy. But if their spent all their money in China for argument sake it would have nothing for the US economy!
  12. 1km to go live dstv206
  13. my pet hate: idiots on talking on cellphones, while driving. I missed the part where that is not illegal anymore. ESP when they remain hogging the right lane on a freeway at now 70km/h in a 120km/h zone!
  14. My pet hate too! If people are weaving it can only mean 1 thing - people are not keeping left - so people can then pass right! On a free flow 2 laned road road you should always be in the left lane unless overtaking - you should never just be driving in the right lane - and it seems at least 50% of motorist feel the need to drive in the right lane. If we as cyclist did not keep left - well we all know what happens. yet as soon as we are NOT almost on the pavement we are seen to be obstructing traffic - what motorist don't realize is cyclist are also traffic! But back to the point it all starts with you / me - drive in the left lane - if people want to 200km/h so be it if the get a fine (lets face it that one thing in they still do - speed control)let them. But esp on the Highways / freeways let people go as fast as they like - maybe then on the secoundary roads they will show more tolerance to other road users like cyclist as they will not be taking their frustrations out on cyclist! My 2c worth - sorry no spell check!
  15. Anywhere in the world - Cyclist are traffic - and hopefully part of the trafic and Co2 global warming solution! Motorist need to start appreciating this on all public road. Yes believe it or not if it was a blind riase then their would be a solid white line which in turn means it would be illegal to overtake and need to slow down for the slower trafic (cyclist(s)) ahead of the motorist and wait untill it is safe to overtake and on a dotted line - That is also the law! I live down in the Cape far from you guys but this Dec / Jan holidays their were a lot of GP number plates down here and I must admit GP number plate drivers seem to be very inconsiderate - whether I am on my bike / or in my car!
  16. I have some Pearl frames in stock and am able to get frames if what you want is not in stock. But I am more focused on Group sets, Wheel sets and parts.
  17. Well their is 1 TDF team leader who been in CT for 6 week now in the Grasskop region doing high ultitude training - but then he is drug free - so maybe if the other sports from abroad are in CT for dope certain team leader in the TDF are here for training in decent weather, ultitude and long climbs!
  18. I tend to agree with JB here! Probably the best way to repair an aluminum frame if cracked would be to clean is very well, if possible get the region where the crack is anodized - not sure if this would be possible and then put a carbon bandage on it! Reason for wanting the region anodized is this would make the bond between the Carbon and the Aluminum last a lot longer and stronger. The repair would not involve heating the frame and thus should not affecting the characteristics of the heat treated Aluminum!
  19. LEET22 - Just pointing out it is not only unsafe in RSA to ride without a helmet as you have pointed out already, (probably more because of the danger of other road users causing an accident in RSA as apposed to you causing yourself injury) but it is also now law that you must ride with a helmet - this law was passed about 3 to 4 years ago!

I just want to get home safely and without a head ache from other road users! So: 1. In Switzerland I don't use a helmet - the fellow road users respect other road users and I feel safe. Been riding a bicycle for 27 years and in the past 15 have never caused myself injury! 2. If at a red robot in JHB at 2 in the morning in my car - I treat it as a stop street. I don't want to be hijacked and been from the Cape I do not know which areas are "safe"! 3. Often start riding ahead of a robot when it is about to change green - as I am normally out my saddle and thus using more of the road space - once again my safety. 4. If pissing with rain and cold, and I am out riding - not that often - I will tend to go through more robot than normal. Swine flu kills! I don't really want to get sick. Just a few example of me putting my personnel safety above the general law! Rules are for the guidance of wise men and for fools to follow! I really don't care how other react / think or feel as long as it is safest for myself.
  21. I must admit back in 9991 I was riding home for work with a 36 head duty spanner (good 1kg worth maybe more) in my right hand on the brake hood! Not on motorist or taxi hooted!!!
  22. So then the pedestrian is putting your life at risk and that is not on!!! Should we cyclist not start Facebook groups also ..........................??
  23. I must admit all road users (99.999999999999999%) don't obey the rules of the road - so as long as you don't endanger yourself or others while disobeying road rules where is the problem in RSA, We all know the cops only do: speed control, running red lights, above the legal alcohol limit, and sometimes road worthy vehicles! When last did you see: 1 . A pedestrian stopped and arrested for J walking, or walking through a red man robot? 2. A motorist arrested for crossing a solid barrier line or driving in the right line in free flow traffic as apposed to passing in the right lane? Keep left (regardless of the speed limit) pass right! 3. A cyclist coming to a dead stop and 1 foot out the pedal at a stop street before the line? So as all (99.999999999999%) road users brake the rules, does it give a fellow road user the right to deliberately injury another road user? But for some obscure reason certain motorist - we have seen the Facebook groups - seem to target cyclist, and sometimes for no reason other than they are in humane idiots! Sometimes disobeying road rules is safer in certain circumstances than obeying them as stated in a previous post! Rules are for the guidance of wise men and for fools to follow!
  24. Rules are for the guidance of wise men and for fools to follow! I really don't care how other react / think or feel as long as it is safest for myself. I should add and putting nobody else in danger! My mistake. If other road users also applied that rule of putting your personnel safety 1st while considering putting nobody elses safety in danger I can assure you their would be far few accidents be it car on car and their should never be any accidents involving car on bike! We all no bikes come off 2nd best.
