  1. Go to the web site www.pearl-cycles.com The Grace SL - the white bike that Mat rides retails in Germany for 1850 euro frame and fork. The frame raw (no painting) weight is 970g. The Dice - the frame I ride is about 350 euro more
  2. To bring some clarity. Pearl is a brand I import from Germany - there is a South African connection their as the owner (who is a South African) of the brand grew up in RSA and went SACS school but immigrated to Germany towards the end of the 80ies. The product are of the highest quality and have had some really good reviews in Europe. As far as the SA market for Pearl all this frames are available at a reasonably short notices, but I don't want to fall into the trap that STEVENS did and that is to over capitalise on marketing and end up stopping the product a few years on. As far as the EDGE thing goes - well all I can say is WE and I still work very closely.
  3. I did a repair on Davids TT Cervelo earlier this year which meant it needed to be reprayed - SO well....... But for sure it is a lightweight disc wheel
  4. Re design them to float - one company has done this - seems like the way forward to me then if they are not 100% straight it not a big deal! But I am a roadie!
  5. If you need to doping for local SA racing you must be useless! I can honestly say I never even thought about it when I raced as a semi pro (1 x Rapport tour, 9 x Giro del Capo's, 3 x Argus cycle tour under 2h30 and a total of 25). My racing weight then was already 85kg. This past month was the 1st time in my life I even gave into antibiotics for a really bad cold. More recently I have tried some legal stuff for weight control those who no me yes at 96kg those hills are harder! My favourite juice for my water bottle is peach ice tea or sugar and water and a bit of coke - you can get it at any corner caf? and when you on tour that maybe all you can find, and before you guys say I must be really old I am only 35!
  6. Carbon for bike is great. Titanium for bikes is great. Currently their are Carbon Titanium bikes available trying to maximise the best tubing material depending on the location of the tube on the frame for maximum stiffness and comfort. I am sure within the next 10 year the material been used for bikes will be a carbon Ti (or a similar metal) weave which would hopefully allow a lower resin content and thus even allow for lighter frames without compromising stiffness and comfort! Watch this space!
  7. Yup - sorry when I see felt I only thenk of road bikes - my mistake
  8. What size are you? I have one Scott speedster S1 allu frame carbon fork with ultegra which would be on the upper limit of the budget.
  9. Prices in Euro!!! standard 2750,00 obermayer 3 950,00 ventoux 2 900,00 disc and front wheel 2 750,00 rd 750,00
  10. Starting from about R33 000.00
  11. More stock of these wheels arriving soon. I am going to Germany early next month to Lightweight to learn the art of repairing lightweight wheels in RSA
  12. I ride the speedplay X series - the best pedal ever for the past 5 years no Knee problem - and the problems I started developing in my 1st 20 years of cycling went away! Zero probably have more than enought float
  13. 2nd post: Thats correct, thats why you buy a frame with a lifetime warranty. Well in Eurpoe that means the life of the product - anyone know what that means in RSA? Thus now most companies talk about 5 years! As once the product brakes it life is over and the warranty is thus also over.
  14. Are their four riders in this team that can make SA proud in the team pursuit - I hope we are entering that event - the flagship event for any country!!!
  15. I am quite experience at this done it 3 times on 3 separate occasions (left x 2 and right x 1). Never had an opp. All depends on where the break is and how many nerves are in the area. A rule of thumb test is when you can lift that arm above your shoulder without 2 much pain and assistance you can probably ride. The 1 st time for me took about 4 week and the last time I was back on the bike within 3 day - I had no pain and still rode the Argus 2 week later in a sub 3!
  16. Yes their is Doom and Gloom all over the world. I travel often overseas and always look forward coming back to RSA. Come to think of it the only place I had my wallet stollen from me was in the USA! Bottom line is we are all going to die anyway - may as well in enjoy the quality of life we get here is RSA (eating out - I sure the best food in the world, climate excellent, beaches, game parks etc) is great. If that means quality over quanitity I will live and die with that - When it is time to go I just hope it is quick and pain free!
  17. But even not so long ago about 2 years I at the last minute found out that 1 free page in a passport was not enought for the Dutch consolate to issue a Visa. Went to home affair got a tempory passport within 48 hours. I think it was the next day. Show if it is urgent things happen. Thank goodnees for the last minute!! That the only why things get done.
  18. So the british embassy is 4 and a half days slower
  19. Lost my SA pasport in Hamburg Germany - 3 Hour latter had a new 1 SA embasy! Bringing up time lines like that is so completely stupid of course in you own country things take longer - more demand
  20. On the serious side JL a very good choice esp because he is young and should be their for the next 8 years. I am glad I am not a selector as leaving DLill out must have been hard he is also young - or is sentiment only because I am a Kaapie?
  21. Does this mean you can get by with eating less food tomorrow? So the diet has begun! This may of couse be a huge case of the pot calling the kettle black!
  22. As far a boxes go - My experience is: Cannodale boxes are great Giant boxes that a spin bike were in are thick and better. Always remeber the thicker the box the heavier it becomes so if weight is aproblem maybe try and get a light 1. I am thinking of making state of the art Carbon bike boxes - would sell for a lot - anyone interested?
  23. I have 1 set left for sale at R9000.00
  24. Hi Mark and any other hubber with restricted gears. I think it is time to explain gear ratios and how to work it out! You take the big chain ring and multiply it by 27 and then divide this number by the number of cogs on the back. i.e. (52 X 27)/16 = 87.75inch gear or (42 X 27)/13 = 87.23inch gear so using this combination which is very close may lead to a slight disadvantage to your son. But this all depends on the size tire at the back! If using a 25c tire as apposed to a 18c tires he would probably have an advantage - the rims been used may also affect this (tubbies are small the HP for example)! So basically gear ratios are not the same for all tire wheel combinations. So it would be best to make sure it rolls in over the correct distance - and this is now speced in meter and not inches! The closer it is to the roll in mark the better. When I was a U16 I ran a 44 /16 on tubbies but on HP and then it was not 700c it would not roll in (I am 35 years old now). Sorry to be hard but if you want to play the game the individual must no the rules and how to make maximum benefit from them. I don't think anyone should rely on any bike shop to do final inspection of a bike for any big race - the onus lies on the individual - all bike shops do their best but sometimes things but be overlooked.
