  1. Whaha. I’m doing the 100k, not sure I can afford to lose 30mins.
  2. I see waterproof pants are now compulsory gear for UTD 100/160. First time I have seen that as a requirement.
  3. A reminder of my trail run database that I try to keep up to date: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZM_nEQvhC_oaNyJRws5Sd66OTawZRzzmAeYxKWgA6YY/
  4. Looks like they copied and reversed the Pondo Ultra race: http://wildchildafrica.com/the-pondo-trail/
  5. Some running stores offer paid running gait analysis (SBR comes to mind). So if you pay a couple of hundred bucks for the assessment, you don't feel so guilty when you use that shoe booster.
  6. Definitely up your long run, increase it by 10% a week, pull back slightly every 4th week for recovery. Aim for at least 1 30km long run 3 weeks before your marathon.
  7. I feel your pain regarding getting wide shoes. New Balance normally comes in 2E width. Only other options are Inov-8 and Altra, but these are not widely available and zero or low drop mostly which you may not like. Sportsmans have started stocking some Altras. You can try Run Store as well. Altras all have a very wide toe box, but all zero drop. Inov-8 Terraultra (widest, zero drop) Inov-8 Trailtalon 235 (wide, 4mm drop) Inov-8 Trailtalon 290 (wide, 8mm drop)
  8. LCHF/Keto/IF and running works well for me! Much less worries about nutrition come race day.
  9. Doing 60km a week after only 4 months of running seems like an injury waiting to happen! So be careful if you now add in some high intensity workouts. Having said that, perhaps if you have good base fitness from cycling and blessed with a good running gait and strong glutes you may be less injury prone. Not sure where you started, but as a rule of thumb one needs to increase weekly mileage by no more than 10%. And then after 3 weeks of progression, take a bit of a recovery week where you pull back on the mileage and intensity to allow yourself to recover.
  10. Look what just popped up op my running club’s facebook feed. Seems like Mr Johnson is a running coach.
  11. Sounds like you need to add a bit of variety into your training if you are just doing those 4x10k runs at a consistent effort. I would replace two of those 10k runs with any of the following workouts: intervalstempo runhill repeatsBut if you do this make sure your other runs are done at an easy pace.
  12. If you were planning on going there this weekend, just note that they are hosting the Magaliesberg Challenge trail run on Saturday 17 August so presumably at least some of the trails might be closed.

  14. If any race is a breeze you are going too slowly.
  15. I recently came across this study about "hitting the wall" that is quite interesting: https://www.outsideonline.com/2399877/critical-power-study
  16. Well done! I started out a bit too fast on the 25km and paid for it the last 5km which were supposed to be a an easy downhill finish. Still improved on my time from the March race though by a couple of minutes (route was also 1km longer than the previous event). Definitely a well organised event (unlike the Cool Ideas series which had some sort of stuff up in all three events so far). Definitely went with the beer instead of the medal.

  18. I saw some 4%s at Nike store in Mall of Africa, on special for just over R3k if I remember correctly. First time I saw them in the flesh, i can understand why they don’t last very long.
  19. I entered but got flu two week ago and still recovering, may well downgrade to the 21k.
  20. For those who might have missed it in the other running thread, I have compiled a database of 25km + and multi day trail run events. If you know of any events that I have not captured, please let me know. Trail Run Events Database
  21. Updated my trail run events database with the HEX SkyRun event: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZM_nEQvhC_oaNyJRws5Sd66OTawZRzzmAeYxKWgA6YY/edit?usp=sharing
  22. Wow that is a sneaky move. I just ignored the email based on the heading.
  23. They also have a branch in Fourways, really good coffee. I also like Urban Grind in parkhurst. Bean there is also good if you can get it fresh from their roastery at 44 Stanley. As stated by others, get it as freshly roasted as possible.
  24. Thanks for all the contributions, I have now added those as well as all the stage races I could find. There is a separate tab for the stage races. I have also placed on google drive so that it stays live at the following link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZM_nEQvhC_oaNyJRws5Sd66OTawZRzzmAeYxKWgA6YY/edit?usp=sharing Trail Run Events.xlsx
