  1. From twitter: Mike Woolnough ‏@Ztangi3h "Done Epic, can do Freedom Challenge" is like "Done Argus, can do Epic". A few similarities - like you ride a bike. Well, sometimes on FC Pretty much says it.
  2. I love this bit...obfuscation at it's best! Pedal Power’s stance that Cycling SA has done little on road safety is in itself incorrect. Cycling SA acknowledges that PPA has invested a large amount of work and money in this area in the Western Cape. Cycling SA does not lay claim to that. It must be recorded though that Cycling SA is the sports federation in its own right and not in competition with PPA. There has been lobbying for cycle lanes all around the country, as well as safety campaigns, orchestrated by volunteers who make up Cycling SA affiliates. BUT CSA themselves have most likely done nothing
  3. Velosteel. Speedy Cycles in Wynberg (Cape Town), under R300. They even have a variety of spares for them. Nothing cleans up the lines of a bike like a coaster hub. No clutter.
  4. Thank you. You will be fitter when you finish
  5. The answers are generally yes... here's my description of Die Leer http://fiforiders.blogspot.com/2012/04/gamkaskloof-and-die-leer.html
  6. Nee my laahnie, get off at Prince Albert Road. It looks like the kind of place you'd insert a provincial enema tube, but west of it is paradise.....lots of it.
  7. You catch the train to Prince Albert Road Get transferred to PA (or ride the 45km if you feel tough) Stay in PA overnight, many options, from free to camping to guesthouse Ride to Gamkaskloof Overnight, either in a house or camp Ride to Rouxpos, (oh, forgot to mention that includes Die Leer:) Sleep at Rouxpos (top farmstay) Ride to Anysberg, camp Ride to Montagu, range of accom available ........ Depending on people's time, budget, fitness, etc the ride can vary.
  8. The man to speak tois Rohan Surridge of Detour Trails.
  9. No, this spring This could be a fun outing and if enough people show up, we could arrange a variety of options re routes and accomodation, length of ride etc..
  10. Nigel can only come if he can: 1. Tell us the average dip of the sandstone layers in the Swartberg Pass? 2. Explain when, ( in relation to continental drift drift), this folding happened? 3. What caused the folding if the continents were pulling apart? He may, if he so chooses, answer the questions on-site.
  11. SS is not the only way to gain rank. Any service beyond the ordinary is welcomed. One Kevin Davie is our Honourary Patron, so anything is possible.
  12. Donnerse Ingelsmanne!! Just as well you were out of range
  13. I must state this very clearly upfront... The DWK is a totally non-race-ist organisation. Never was never will be.
  14. Use of the singular speeded bicycling machine gets you instant rank in the DWK.
  15. As you please. The ethic of the DWK dictates lightweight, mobility, low cost and fun. Closely allied to Fiforiders (as in fit in or forkoff).
  16. Panniers no, not up Die Leer unless you are happy to make 2 trips. Frame packs, backpacks and minimalist
  17. Days of riding 4-6, depending on how far you want to go. Choose a time other than mid-summer. For Capetonians, it's lekker option because you end up almost where you started and the train option removes the hassle of cars being stuck at the far end.
  18. OK, so how many of you do I collect at "Die Stasie" tomorrow evening ... Seriously, I can help with planning and logistics, so keep in touch. You could become members of the Dikwiel Kommando before you know it.
  19. OK guys, stop messing about..... Catch the train from Cape Town to Prince Albert Road. (If it's too late, you can be collected and taken the 45km to Prince Albert.) Then ride back to Cape Town via the Swartberg Pass, Gamkaskloof, Die Leer, Rouxpos, Anysberg, Montagu, etc......... Come on, you know you'll enjoy it. Just do it
  20. Look me up when you get to Prince Albert
  21. Well done to all of these riders, showing tenacity and spirit. You are true heroes and heroines in your own right.
  22. Banana peels go black in a day or so and then break down. I chuck them in the veld, but off the trail. Orange/naartjie peels are a different story, they are unsightly. Let's pick the "low hanging fruit" first and get "bicycle riders" to stop chucking their goo sachets, at this stage the banana peel debate is academic. Surely?
  23. Leave it at home?
  24. Strava is, in this case, a tool for a tool. Would love to hear Van's explanation.
