  1. Huge salute to these riders, their achievements always bring a lump to my throat. Wishing Justine Asher a speedy recovery too!
  2. You could do that, but it would require max caution... when cutting an aluminium seatpost out of a steel frame, I attached magnet so that the filings fell onto the magnet. If any stayed on the magnet, then I was cutting steel and not aluminium. Simple. Unfortunately you don't have that option with them both being carbon I made a tool that was basically a hacksaw blade broken in half and then both bits set into a groove in a 16mm bar, facing opposite directions. Cuts on both strokes, the cutting action becomes more like filing than cutting. Elbow grease plays a big part, as does patience!
  3. Start here http://sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html Enjoy
  4. My guess is that you're going to have to cut it (the seatpost) off and insert a "puller"/ pull hammer....yes I know it's carbon so work carefully. Said tool will probably need to be made for the job. The puller has an OD smaller than the ID of the seatpost, but it has a lip that protrudes, enabling you to get some purchase under the bottom end of the seatpost. If you can get it under the bottom of the seatpost, start tapping gently to try and free it. You want to avoid chipping the bottom of the seatpost and hence destroying any chance of pulling it out. Another option may be to cut it of flush with the seat tube and push it down into the frame (assuming it has a clear bore and that there aren't any intrusions. Measure carefully before considering this option. Not so sure that the freezer option is going to do much. Good luck. PS My carbon consultant says try Q20 and a heatgun first, but you've done that.
  5. A bit off-topic, but anyone made one of these ? http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/426/597/42659770_640.jpg
  6. Not being a racer in any way, and being affie plaas and all, this doesn't smell good (and I'm not even a PPA member) Cycling SA reminds any persons wishing to host cycling events in South Africa, that such events remain subject to the sanctioning requirements of Cycling SA, and to all applicable statutory provisions, including but not limited to the National Sport and Recreation Act, 1998 (Act No. 110 of 1998), and related legislation. This smells of *UCI* and all that it and Phat Pat stand for.
  7. There's a word with "U" and "C" in it and it describes the situation adequately.
  8. Huge up to Bun Booyens for his decisive action !! Now let's hear it from Fidelity........
  9. Can one extend the run-time on the 1200 lumen light to say about 6 or 7 hrs ? Extremelights ?
  10. It's a pity the pic wasn't taken from the front.
  11. My apologies. I stand corrected.
  12. Never fear, they'll go on to make fine politicians.
  13. Stunning, serious goose bump stuff. Thanks for sharing
  14. Let I explain.. It's known as "homeless choobless" by some. We don't have "ghettos" in Africa. Geddit? And yes, been doing it for a while now....
  15. A friend of mine who converted to tubeless a while back said... "the only time I get a papwiel these days is when I forget to take my Viagra".
  16. There are countless threads on tubeless. If cost is an issue, do a homeless tubeless conversion.
  17. Thank the dog for teaching you a lesson and for letting you get off fairly lightly. Next time you see a big dog in the street, stop, greet the dog and tell him to "go home" If the owner get's sassy, tell him you were talking to the dog, not him. Dogs do what dogs do. Ride on.
  18. @ nohare: Meneer, my bicycles are standing shivering in the corner, refusing to move outside, just can't convince them that it will be fun. I think they need a good sjambokking. I think we are talking about different Middelpos's (or whatever the plural is). The one I had in mind hasn't seen a tide for a good few million years, it's NW of Sitterland. A ride can always be organised, it is often from these strange rides that greater things emerge....in 2009 some Ingelsman affie Kaap decided he wanted to ride the Swartberg Pass in January....the only way to do it was at night in the full moon. That was the birth of the Prince Albert Dikwiel Kommando. On another occasion, after tearing my hair out (well, that's my story) trying to arrange a ride to suit a number of different people with different agendas, another group was formed. FIFO riders. Anyone familiar with the system of accounting practised on the back of a cigarette box will know that it stands for fit in or fork off... Which brings me to the original fred...that stompie-gooiende ding has besmirched not only the reputations of owners old Karoo Mercedes', but also Laingsburg, the entire Koup and maybe even the entire Karoo by association. I feel duty bound to find her. But it may take some time......surely if we approach this scientifically and scour all the roads of the Koup, it would be a good start. And if you think I sound mal, don't raise the subject of desalination plants again......
  19. Now you are abusing my good offer! I do not work for gubmint, but I have done work for them on occasion. Why don't I start here and ride towards you, we could meet at a mutually agreeable location (Middelpos springs to mind) to hold a short workshop to discuss a way floor-ward. Then I could swing south in search of the elusive BB while you go home into a headwind.. If I find the bovine, do I get to keep the car? I'm assuming you don't want it.
  20. I could go down the road (it's only a long day's ride) and find the Bovine Beauty you seek, but I'd need some detail first: Colour, model, etc of car, registration number perhaps? If it's a W123 240D then I'd be duty bound to cover for her, even though I am a fervent non-smoker. On the other hand, they might live on a farm in the greater Laingsburg district in which case it could take me weeks of riding. But find her I will. PM me if you want to know my rates for a three week ride of the plaaspaaie of the Laingsburg district I'd love to see her face when we hand that stompie back to her after a 3 week search.
  21. Stop wasting your time with bicycles. Your true talent lies with the pen. Go for it.
  22. Great stuff. I found your pipe just before the grid.
  23. I'd be interested to hear Ryder's explanation for that claim. Is the latex in some other kind of solution? In fact I'd be very interested because I just found a massive lump of rubber in a wheel that has never been near a bomb... Apologies for the hijack.
  24. And then this hits the headlines...... http://www.citypress.co.za/news/rhino-toll-at-367/ Get a life Emperor Augusta
