  1. I doubt that Tim Noakes is losing much sleep over this thread.
  2. Andrew King knows his stuff. Best cycling videos, makes the others positively boring.
  3. No. The first bit of your post was factual, but this: "Design and marketing functions will be separate to ensure all the brands maintain its unique identities. Brand loyalty is to be respected in our market place. This renewed focus should lead to more and better product hitting stores in time and price points remaining competitive. Both First Ascent and Capestorm cycling ranges have grown with the market and also due to market support. The idea is to obviously have this trend continue and to be even more competitive. " .....was what nearly put my Sunday lunch all over the screen. I have been a loyal Cape Storm customer over the years and I guess I'm just pissed off that my brand of choice has been messed with. Nothing personal.
  4. Sounds like a big shpoon of marketing shlop to me. But then the rag trade and marketing kind of fit together.
  5. Oops, do I sense an impending Instant Customer Service Lesson? ....exit stage left
  6. Somewhere in the deep dark recesses of our beloved country, there are still people teaching children that it's safer to ride your bicycle against the flow of traffic. If a motorist is suddenly confronted by a group of school children closing in on the wrong side of the road, what does he or she do? Swerve into the oncoming vehicles (some of which may be bicycles) ? Stay on course and take out the cyclists who by now have swerved all over the road? Swerve left and take out cyclists who have by now left the road? As a driver it's no-hoper, for a cyclist it's suicidal. Bicycles are vehicles, they have rights and responsibilities, one of which is to drive like a (responsible) vehicle.
  7. A South African politician on a bike! (Other than Antie Helen, that is) Even if he is doing the no-helmet thing, at least he's on a bike. Gotta start somewhere. Invite him on more rides, he's shown a willingness that others have not.
  8. Looking at your avatar pic you must be hell on components?
  9. Just had a very quick and painless (on time, in stock, best prices, wide selection) R3k package from CRC, and customs were kind too. Can't say the same for the three local suppliers (two online and one not). I spread the order to minimise risk and to send a big chunk through a local bike shop, but maybe next time CRC all the way. One of the online suppliers was adamant that the useless, rude couriers were "beyond their control". Such a typically South African response. Chain Reaction Meltdown? Not from my experience.
  10. Are those your gumboots I found in the kraal? Boet? Your china at the bike shop could simply have stated something along the lines of "The R100 fee was not simply for a wash. It was for a "quick once over" and would have included a minor amount of tweaking to check that each bike was good to go. Situation explained and diffused. I for one would have expected something like that. Anyway, it would appear that I've been advertising the shop for some time now. ...and yes, that is a 2007 Peace 9r.
  11. Not sure how to answer that, not being a sheep farmer and all you know. Maybe I could ask the same sort of question of you? Do you think you're the first perlemoen "diver" to think of pulling the ring out of something?
  12. Take out the 'M"
  13. 40DD. Wondered what the hell was going on.
  14. The engine. That makes the biggest difference. And it'll leave you feeling much better too
  15. Maybe that's why I'm so fast?
  16. I think my 9yr old bottles have long ago leached out all their gif, so I'm probably OK?
  17. Die hele blerrie ding stink.
  18. May I respectfully suggest that if CSA can find it's own R-sole, that they then disappear up it?
  19. brief hijack: From http://www.genuinein..._about_co2.html Generally, during actuation of CO2 gas delivery systems, if the gas is discharged with the cylinder in the 'up' position, only gas is dispelled from the cartridge. However, if the gas is discharged with the cylinder in the 'down' position, and with gravity affecting the liquid CO2, along with the gas being dispelled, some liquid CO2 is also ejected. This liquid CO2 instantly turns to dry ice, sublimating quickly into a gaseous state. This property of actuation is useful in some applications where increased gas pressure is desired. Brief hijack off. With the price of good tyres and wheelsets, the cost of sealant used is not such a big deal. What percentage of your "bike-spend" is on sealant? While the jury may be out on the ammonia story, I'd hesitate to save a few ront and possibly jeopardise my fancy ZTr wheelset and those Maxxis tyres. That said, in 6 years of tubeless, I have had one tyre delaminate (Bontrager, non UST) and that could have been due to multiple doring stabs, or just the fact that I was using it outside of it's design parameters. Can't say for sure it was the Stans in the tyre. And absolutely no visible damage to WTB, DT Swiss or ZTR rims. I have used a wide variety of sealants in an even wider range of combinations on a range of tyres (mine and other people's) and the only problems have been sidewall cuts and valves failing.
  20. Road bikes can be fun.... best bit right at the end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z1fSpZNXhU
  21. ..because when Bicycling did the "find and replace" exercise on the American text they were sent, CWC wasn't on their list. Find and replace, the most useful editing tool in the international magazine industry.
  22. Young man, I think her response will be something along the lines of HTFU, but then I'd be guessing.
