  1. Shimano does sell replacement plates so ask...
  2. If you get no.3 right all will be answered. Also as a wheel guru you should know that building a disc wheel with anything less than 3x on both sides is not reccomended...
  3. Excellent so the shop down the road can benifit... Its really big of you to make the choice without phoning Le Peloton and speaking to the people in charge of the company about your issues - insted you splash your k@k on a public forum so people feel sorry for you...
  4. I saw Wessel at the finish looking very stressed about the people going the wrong way, I don't know about the 30km but the 51-54km (depends on who you talk to) was fantastic, I agree maybe the marking could've been a bit better in some places but in all a well put on event.
  5. Corima also do a tubeless carbon wheel for those tyres... very pretty be! Shimano have also just released an Ultegra level wheel...
  6. CONTI all the way 2.4 Mountain king in front, 2.2 Mountain king tailing out back...Bullet proof!
  7. OOOIIEE that looks spanktastic! mind you I'll make do with just a G4 in red for now...
  8. Go check out this, Just got one for my son... http://www.specializedsa.co.za/contentbike.php?range=238&bike=141
  9. Go Shimano as all their brakes use the same pad, they are easy to set up and any one (should) stocks the pads.
  10. 68mm shell - two on drive side one on non drive side 73mm shell - one on drive side
  11. Just go to Dischem and buy two large syringes, then a pet shop and get fish tank air hose that fits on the syringes, take the cap off the lever and push the fluid thru from the caliper to thelever at the same time sucking the excess fluid out of the resivoir with the other syringe. There is no alternative to Shimano mineral oil, anything else will damage the rubber seals in the lever and caliper, that is why its made by Shimano - specifically to work with their product. Even the Magura mineral oil is different and it too will damage the system.
  12. I had the XTR set up, outers and inners and after Sani2c which was not all that muddy, I had to replace the cable- it was new in Jan.
  13. Look I know, as I have worked on teams in the past few years, that in the local racing scene the mechanic always gets forgotten about and never gets to the front of the queue when it comes to handing out the paycheques. As with any team the riders always get paid correctly and first and the mechanic is an after thought. Thats why there are so few mechanics out there that are prepared to do this job.
  14. yes you can do it, However it can add more friction to the system and upset the shifting. I have it on my bike and wish I didn't...
  15. Now this is a new "standard?" 11 speed, its the kinda stuff I enjoy seeing...
  16. If they made everything plug and play then the cycling industry would shut down because thenwe wouldn't be able to brag to our mates about how much cooler my (for example) Specialized is over his (for example) Merida...because MINE has the latest goodiewhatsit...
  17. BB30 has actually been around for the last15 odd years. Cannondale bought it out in the mid 90's but the rest of the industry did exactly what we're doing now...saying we don't need another standard! but now the rest of the world has woken up to the fact that it works and has embraced it. I have worked on BB30 bikes and they are the easiest things to operate and service. It does away with the BB threads JB so problem solved... As for cassette splines, its only Campy that are different is it really such a huge problem? If you're going to ride Campy you accept this and move on...Same with the shifting issue, a Shimano cassette will work with Sram shifeters so I don't really see this as a valid point. Your mention of spoke sizes doesn't seem valid either cuz as a wheel builder you should carry a stock of both sizes? and just by looking at the thread on the spokes see what size it is? The made 1.8mm sizing for weight reduction (rotating weight at that). So in conclusion its all about progress otherwise we would all still be eating raw meat and living in caves. Bring on new technology!onebynine2009-06-04 00:33:52
  18. Well put
  19. Happened to a mate of mine, they deposited the cheque, told him to check his account where he saw the money not realising it was still to clear, and gave them the bike only to have a call from nedbank the cheque was not honoured!
  20. Thats why I'm selling my 2 SLR's, a Gobi is a lot gentler...
  21. I run an XTR 180mm crank with the 44/32 chainrings on my Epic and an LX crankset with a 36T chainring on my 1x9 bike Just need to get a roller thingy to replace the deore FD that I have (no cables) to keep the chain on the ring...
  22. Riding a 29er is the way forward! There's hype out there that they're only for taller riders etc but I have seen smaller guys racing them to success, Sam Schultz, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski of the Subaru Gary Fisher team are racing 29ers on the world cup circuit...In fact Sam has been racing one for the last year and a half and he's got his down to 9.8kg for a med frame! so its feasible!
  23. DCM is now on scalpels...
  24. You need a 14mm allen key
