  1. Kind of makes you wonder if they can generate seedings so quickly, why not include more seeding events closer to to race?
  2. Well of course it is........ ......but do you have a test to suggest for the OP?
  3. Or Donovan, Mellow Yellow and Elton John, Pinball Wizard?
  4. Ahem, 25...... Stupid rule-of-thumb anyway!
  5. A virgin? Then you know about the rules, don't you? Everything a self-respecting roadie needs to know in one place (http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/). Rule #8 // Saddles, bars, and tires shall be carefully matched.3Valid options are: Match the saddle to the bars and the tires to black; orMatch the bars to the color of the frame at the top of the head tube and the saddle to the color of the frame at the top of the seat tube and the tires to the color where they come closest to the frame; orMatch the saddle and the bars to the frame decals; orBlack, black, black.
  6. Well, whilst the meat is braaing........sales gravity brewing involves brewing a beer at the required alcohol and taste/aroma/body etc. This involves using a lot of water, or cabbage, if you prefer! High-gravity brewing is essentially brewing a concentrated beer (elevated alcohol and all the other taste and aroma components), by using less water, and then prior to bottling, the beer is diluted back down with water to the concentration of the equivalent sales gravity beer. It isn't 'watering' beer down; it's adding water later in the brewing process. Castle Lite and the other reduced calorie beers, achieves it's reduced calorie value by having a lower alcohol by volume (alcohol has a high calorific value), and also by having reduced residual fermentable and non-fermentable carbohydrates (simplistically sugars). Some Lite beers are produced using high-gravity brewing, some not. Irregardless, the 'lite' attribute doesn't come from high-gravity brewing. Not trying to get you drinking Castle Lite - I'm not a fan of it either - merely trying to share some knowledge and dispel some of the braai-beer misunderstandings...
  7. Might you be getting high-gravity brewing, and brewing a brand to have lower kilojoules, in package, by limiting residual carbohydrates, mixed up?
  8. 100%. Quarts - multi person serves - of any brand is the best way to get fresh beer!
  9. Good lord! Haven't seen one of those for a while. Just shows how random the craft/imported beer craze is currently in SA.......
  10. Maybe it's a Bike Shed?
  11. Doesn't the missing part of a go-faster training strategy, not discussed here, come from the high intensity end of a polarised training program? ie whether it's little to no calorie intake whilst doing base, or slightly higher intensity sessions, they're focused on building the aerobic engine. The ability to go-faster, rather than go-longer, would more readily come from training using tempos/high intensity intervals, where it's more likely that it's your bodies inability to remove waste products, or operate in such a swamped environment, rather than supply or break down fuel?
  12. Not taking the place of the OP, and whilst they ponder your interesting query, can I ask what is the difference between your 6-hour rides, and your breakfast cereal-fuelled races, in terms of speed, or intensity, or power, or calorie expenditure?
  13. True. No helmet.....
  14. A momentary loss of talent...... I like to rest my forearms on the top of my handlebars, to work my lower back and glutes, and to look cool! To date, I haven't had to factor in the influence of sunscreen on the coefficient of friction between arms and bars...... Fortunately no major damage done to the rider or bike.
  15. In order to avoid falling off, through lack of momentum, one has to approach death at SBR! All just scare-mongering really! Just don't be put off by the first few kms, and keep plenty in the tank for the 40+ km mark.....
  16. A sneaky ride in the Cradle on Friday afternoon, didn't turn out how I'd planned........
  17. Probably not. Bleeding from the eyes...... Or if it was someone's energy drink, it had been partially digested?
  18. Not half as upset, as the response to that prospective stoker kiss, would be.....
  19. Do you think fate will put the majority of Hubbers in the same group again, so that the racing snakes can start not too much later? Have to admit to not having even entered 947 yet - still riding on my smile from this year's Jock Classique!
  20. Well, if travelling & cost weren't an option, and they were on the same day, which one would you choose?
  21. I did spot that: a continuous flat/downhill....lap? They should re-name it the Penrose Lap
  22. Yip, that turn into the race track isn't going to be pretty........
  23. 6:05 for us in the Classique. Rode with some mates and regrouped at the top of Long Tom and rode back together; some photo stops and chill times. Took the first stage quite easy. Found Spitskop harder than anticipated but it wasn't so bad. Long Tom seemed to pass quicker than expected. Didn't see any Hubbers, that I was aware of. Did see an oke on a lekker bamboo bike though, with a monster rear cassette. Seemed to be making good time as well...
  24. Easily the most rewarding time on the bike. Great scenery and a great sense of achievement. If you haven't done it; do the training and go have fun!
  25. I'm a Jock-virgin, so clearly not basing the following on experience, but I have a feeling one's normal race pattern maybe a little upset by the terrain? Anywho, it'll be an experience, I'm sure.......
