  1. An interesting article, but I'm not sure the data supports the confidence in the conclusions. The 'strongest' correlation referred to has an R^2 of only 0.24, which in most fields would be a v poor fit of a straight line.....maybe sports science, and cycling, have differing criteria when it comes to stats? I've played a little with data-mining in another field, and most real-world problems, are multi-factorial (lots of differing parameters to account for), and 'simple' correlations of 1 parameter against another, are normally not very effective. I wonder if the pro teams use neural networks and genetic algorithms to mine their data?
  2. Welcome to BikeHub, where deep introspection precedes every 'Add Reply'!
  3. Me too! I'm looking back at the training diary and telling myself, the training was done, it's just an abrupt, unplanned taper program....... Hopefully we come right in time.
  4. Thanks for the heads-up. Are you talking about the section of the yellow road after the 'Brondal turn-off'? The whole of that section, or one particular bit? http://www.thejock.co.za/images/Jock_1-Day-Map.jpg
  5. Re the Coggan & Allen chart. That moment when you estimate your W/kg from your benchmark VAM and some basic mechanics, and you like the descriptor associated with you, and you save yourself >R10k! Happy Friday!
  6. According to the Jock Classique facebook page yesterday, they still have entries for sale....
  7. Interesting/confusing/frightening that this PR states Long Tom is 12km at 10%, and the official site states 12km at an average of 7%. Who/when to believe?!
  8. And what does that lil' ol' mineshaft measure up to be? Looks kinda steep! I quite like responding to such Leeeffftttt-ist comments, with "tit at home". Well, it makes me chuckle and avoids the Scot in me.....coming out.
  9. ......to Parys! Rode with a mate from Lanseria to Parys on Sun 1 May. 144 kms and 1685m of climbing on roads which were nice and quiet and once we got the one and only puncture for the day out of the road, after 7 km, it was a great day out! A downhill run to Fochville..... Every downhill has an uphill..... And some suspect craft beer in Parys...
  10. Goodie bag?
  11. Thought you were prototyping motor-doping for a second, with that fan drive! Good luck with the sale.
  12. Stunning view. What are you riding? Monster-cross? More pics, or links please!
  13. Your planned 350km ride??
  14. .....Over-achiever!
  15. Interesting to see a lot of pilates being employed here. The sliding 'trolley' on the incline, where he pulls down on handles is replicated on a pilates reformer machine.
  16. Does you make you wonder if either the organisers have *** marketing advice, or are they embarrassed at the price? Either way, I'll be giving it a miss. But c'mon I-Team, a perfect chance for some extended team riding!?
  17. Is it me or is the entry fee, awkward to find?
  18. Ha! Rule #42 applies......http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/ Good luck with the jersey quest!
  19. Good lord, that photo should immediately exclude you from the competition!
  20. I'm not A SA citizen, but rather a resident, so maybe I'm ineligible to enter, but I'll share the photo anyway! 1985, a pissing rainy day outside Edinburgh in Scotland - but the smile was still there cos I was oot' on ma' bike! Matching Raleigh team top and my 1982 Royal (still got the bike but alas not the top). Back in the day when lights were more like bricks and about as effective at illuminating the road.... Apols about the takkies and red trouser.....long story.
  21. Mad, but huge respect! Nice read.
  22. Yes ma'am, but not racing. Sunday should be a 100km endurance ride involving the 'never-ending' Harties Satellite road - must remember to pack some tears......
  23. I'm sure the I-Team is like a sleeper force - resting until collective momentum spins up into action...just like an electromagnetic rear wheel infact... I personally am currently on a self-imposed racing-ban. Training with a mate, who's doing Argus, which keeps me fit and let's me smell the roses. Much to recommend it!
  24. I cannae' Captain - my warp engines cannae' take it!! (On my way back after a calf problem.....)
