  1. i have had meniscus tears fixed in both my knees and i was running again in 3 weeks the procedure is pretty simple, the first one i went home the same day, the second one i spent the night in hospital cause of a drain they put in the knee. the procedure is done via laparoscopic surgery so not a very invasive procedure! my experience in differentiating between ITB and Lateral Meniscus tears is with ITB the pain starts at a certain distance everytime (with me it was about 2 kms) and gets progressively worse and is worse running steep downhills or uphills ~ climbing stairs is total agony, with Meniscus problems the pain starts straight away when you start running and goes away when you stop, anti inflammatories dont relieve the pain with meniscus tears however a good pain tablet works and with ITBS the opposite applies anti inflammatories work really well to relieve ITBS Cataflam and i got well acquainted when i suffered with ITBS
  2. YOu are spot on regarding the lateral meniscus tear being a differential diagnosis to ITB i had exactly the same situation however my doctor thought it may be a meniscus tear but it turned out to be ITBS
  3. i would go with the Cannondale 6 it has 105 components but has BB30 and IMO one of the best looking bikes available for 20k
  4. i would buy a new bike! have a look at the FElt Q520 its a really pretty bike and you could always built your old components onto the new bike (if they any good) and you get new wheels and a new shock, it might not be the best but it will be new and probably better than what you currently
  5. lol brilliant Bikemonster!! ps many happy miles on the new bike Chris!
  6. buycycle is selling the X9 build kit for R10800.00 i think its one hell of a deal, the american classic tubless wheelset will set you back 5K already then you still get the 2 x 10 groupo and all the odds and ends
  7. thx Tarmac do you know if its SRAM specific bars, stem and seatpost? and what wheelset do they use?
  8. does anybody know what this build kit comprises of?
  9. Spot on Eyecandy!! experience has shown me that if you have a nerve problem not even pethadene and jack daniels helps for the pain!
  10. Sounds like a circulation problem to me now that you say its cold and pale! PS do you get relief if you use pain killers or Anti inflamatories? my experience with this is if it is a nerve problem no pain meds work! if its muscular or skeletal pain meds work
  11. a MRI is probably the best diagnostic test you can have done but its a costly excersise unless its covered by your medical aid, Earlybird, have you experienced any pain relief when the chiropractor manipulates you? because when i had my problem it was like a light switch when my back clicked the pain was gone, as far as i understand active release is basically the same as what a chiropractor does to you except a doctor puts you under and pumps you full of a muscle relaxent to make the process easier (i speak under correction) what gravity sucks says is very true i would consider getting a second opinion from a Orthopedic surgeon and try to get a definitive diagnosis before deciding on the best treatment options
  12. totally agree with slowpoke, sounds like a pinched nerve,i suffered from severe lumbar spine pain for a long time after a cricket injury, my doctor that time told me i have two options 1. operate 2. learn to live with the pain someone recommended that i go see a chiropractor, after three treatments the pain was gone and i had learnt to "click" my lower back myself, so when ever the pain returns i just "click" my back and im good to go for a couple of weeks again
  13. till you converted there too Mampara! i felt the same way till i got my Carbon MTB
  14. Dont worry about it Eldron Mampara is doing just fine after "converting" to ...... how did he like to put it .... plastic bikes
  15. my resting heart rate is slightly elevated but i atribute that to the two weeks of doing nothing, im doing a time trail tonight i will use my polar and see if the results are the same in terms of the lowered heart rate
  16. i ran at normal pace and i wasnt suprised when my HR was higher than normal on friday because as you say logic tells you that if you hvae been off for a while that your HR would increase, but then the next three days the opposite happends, what i dont understand is surely a HRM sensor is or going to work or not? would it actually be possible to get a "false" reading on a HRM?
  17. 1. Suunto T3c never had any issues with it before 2. new batteries in watch and strap 3. If i push on a 5k my HR goes up to about 171 max friday maxed out at 192 on the same route i usually run 4. Max HR is 189
  18. HRM has new batteries in it, from what Cbrunsdon is saying he experienced the same thing, could it be the bodies way of protecting itself from over exhustion when you not well?
  19. i hope that somebody could help me explain the heart rate anomoly ive been experiencing the last few days, i have just recovered from the flu so ive been on a forced rest for almost two weeks, so Friday i get back into things with a 5km run and my heart rate as i expected is rather high maxing out at about 192. Saterday i go for a 30km MTB ride and i couldnt get my heart rate over 120 Sunday i go for a 60km MTB ride and same thing, i just cant get my heart rate past 120. Last night i go for a 10 km run and check my heart rate after 6 kms and its 92 stayed like this most of the way and only maxed out at 121 at the end of the run. the funny thing is i checked my pulse manually and it did seem pretty slow for the exertion levels, i felt as fatigued as i usually do with my HR up around 160 after a good run. Is there a reason why my heart rate would be lower than usual or could it is it just my HR monitor playing up?
  20. iRob just remember that not all Presta valves have removable cores! the easiest in my opinion if you still using innertubes is buy the tubes that have slim in them already!
  21. quantum physics?
  22. have you tried dropping your pressure a bit 2.3 seems very high to me, i used to run mountain kings all round at 1.8 bar any never had an issue with the front washing out. i did however have alot of problems with punctures over rocky terrain so ive changed back to maxxis
  23. Exactly only here you dont get a pair of cycling shoes for free
  24. after reading the thread about the bomb not working someone mentioned getting freezeburn from using a bomb, my hint is take an old road tube cut a piece off just shorter than the bomb and slide it over the bomb, now you wont get freeze burn and your bombs wont clank around in your saddle bag
  25. check out this site! http://www.grouprecipes.com/energy-bar plenty of different energy bar recipes to try out
