  1. Nike Online store and 7-14 days for delivery normally. Sizes in both colours.
  2. Had a good run thanks, the bus all got there A's comfortably.
  3. The plate was fine over 3h30 and standing around for about hour before that. Will test that further at E100 and Route Tester. Definitely did get tired feet, i know some of the reviews have mentioned this potential, even on slow paced hilly runs. You still get benefit from the plate at slower pace, although not as much as at quicker speeds.
  4. I haven't run in them myself. Several of my training partners have tried them. The feed back was, go with the Zoom Fly FK. Especially on longer runs. After Irene yesterday, which I ran in the Zoom's and training partner the Peg Turbo's. I'm running comrades in the Zoom's and he isn't running comrades in the Peg's.
  5. Thanks for a well put on race. The parking was managed much better this year, we get there early every year and it works for us. Excellent aid stations and friendly marshals, all in all a excellent race.
  6. Was going to ask. Well done, it is a good race to improve your seeding.
  7. Its a good run to go for a seeding and if you don't taper for it then it isn't going to harm your Comrades. Did it two years ago for the A seeding and it worked out for us in June. Got a bus going for A again on Sunday with three people looking for their A. You can go for it to 21k and then assess where you are and how you are feeling. It's a quick route for the highveld.
  8. Who else is running Irene this weekend?
  9. The Missus and I went to EL for the Buffs Marathon. Windy and rainy, but oxygen at sea level is great when coming from the highveld. Had a great run, but the admin was particularly poor. Shuttles were a stuff up, delayed the start by 30 minutes and few minutes before the scheduled start. Had a cars driving through the start line still with a minute to go to the gun. They have a #runclean policy, but no bins at the start - two porta loo's, and the WP's had very few bins afterwards to throw the sachets away. Must have been a nightmare to clean up. Would I do it again? Yes, only because if you have something in the tank for the last 6km it is a very fast route even with the extra 200m. We ran 2:55 for the A seeding.
  10. I have been managing it for around 2 years now, managed to get two comrades in with it. Each to his own, tried multiple treatments and nothing has really worked for me.
  11. I find the FK supportive enough for me and like the way it molds around my foot shape. Reducing risks of blisters, evidenced by no blisters at Comrades in the Epic React. It is also lighter and cooler. Also, if he is using and enjoying the VF's the FK version will be the closest feel.
  12. Make sure they are the Fly Knit version though. Keep the VF's for your race days, the Zoom Fly's are almost as good and half the price and will last a little longer. The VF's are made to last 800k, they are performance shoes and certainly the best shoe in that category. You will probably get around 500k in them. Welcome the Nike Fan Club, its similar to the Spaz fan club. You are either in it or your ain't.
  13. There has been a strong move away from the pure minimalist/barefoot style shoe in the last few years. Brands seemed to have acknowledged that it didn't work as well as anticipated. We also don't live like we did 600 years ago, once we get past being a toddler we generally in ill fitting, poorly designed shoes. (school shoes etc) We lose that inherent strength, gait and foot strike. A large number of the brands that went that way have changed to a more cushioned shoe again but have retained the low drop. A large number of athletes/runners got injuries from them and it had repercussions. https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a20783252/vibram-settles-class-action-lawsuit/ At the end of the day you need to make your own decision on a shoe. (I have a pair of those pink Reacts) Ugly or not, they need to work for you. Very few people have the body strength and foot strike to really pull barefoot running, it takes years to get it. As an aside, I know a fishing guide that hasn't worn shoes at all for years. He guides all day, and not on a boat and goes anywhere and is just as fast as anybody. Rocks/thorns/glass/metal no problem. If they work for you, go ahead. If they don't, use something else.
  14. To do Om Die Dam you must be desperate.
  15. It was a good training run and always a great early season tester. Course isn't tough if you know what to expect and have a race plan to suit. She wasn't feeling great and still toughed it out for a PB, which was incidental. It is just a piece in the puzzle for June. Her legs felt good and she had no stiffness afterwards. Lots of strength training off the road in the next 3 months. We running Garbies @ 4:45's if you and Jess are keen.
  16. That's why the specific reference to the Zoom Fly Flyknit. They are the 2nd gen of the shoe, and a lot of the reason for the appeal. The new Nike Flyknit is a great upper, it is light, breathable and supportive. It is worth seeing if you can exchange the SP's for the flyknit.
  17. Good luck, sounds like you have a good chance of doing it in the year You can probably get away with a very basic watch if it is just pace. Runners used a casio for years. Look for a second hand fr20 or similar. For HR that is compatible with ANT+ and blue tooth, look at the scoshe, wahoo or polar arm band version. These are generally around $50.
  18. The new Zoom Fly Fly Knit are a different shoe to the VF's, react foam with the carbon plate. Peg Turbos are ZoomX foam without the carbon plate. React Epic/Odyssey are react foam without the carbon plate. VF's are ZoomX with carbon plate. I know of people that run 0 drop shoes 90% of the time use the VF's and run without a problem. Kipchoge is a pronator, does effect him. Can't comment of the heel strike, mid foot etc, I'm sure people have their own opinion on heel drop and strike patterns. Longevity in a shoe is subjective. I don't like running any distance in a pair of shoes after they have done 600km, they are probably still good to go. Other people like to run 1200km in a pair. I don't want to run in a shoe that can do 1200km. Hope that helps.
  19. Agreed, his strategy is potentially high injury risk. I'm going with the info he provided. He feels he can do a 18 minute 5k, he is cycling fit and has trained for a half marathon. Assumption: he understands the requirements of running a 18m 5k and risk potential. Even then, I don't believe HR will be a massive training advantage. His perceived effort on the adaption phase needs to be low and he doesn't need a HR for this. Thoughts?
  20. I'll wade in here a little late. If you are training for a once off 5k as fast as you can and have got your cycling fitness (you are a sprinter). HR isn't going to help your program, most of your sessions should be speed/interval work which will be short and intense in nature. Your HR will lag behind your effort, they only time it might be helpful is letting you know when you have sufficiently recovered to start your next interval. However very few generic programs work off HR number to indicate when to start your next effort, most work on a time basis. Save your cash if your aren't going to use it beyond this project. Would get more benefit from getting VF 4%'s, although still above your budget. You can get the new Zoom Fly flyknit for R2k at the moment.
  21. Another option, i'll be dublin next week. happy to bring it back for you
