  1. Now you raise the question of the hierarchy of laws!! The single file rule is better adhered to in order to avoid the Pauli exclusion principle which loosely states that 2 objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time
  2. it is the perfect response to your characterization of subtle and nuanced points. you either intentionally don't want to engage these points, or are incapable of understanding them. either way your response was (as mentioned) inane, and absent any value. so yes, refer above
  3. You make it hard to disagree with you! with that said!! I think the cyclists doing the most harm are those that ride in big packs all over joburg, sometimes 4,5,6 abreast, and my lonesome civil protest no-mask riding in the back roads and spruit have very little effect on society's perception of cyclists, or society's social contract structure in general
  4. grow up [edit] and with that sort of inane response to this complex matter, you should rather just obey everything you are told to do, and leave the thinking to the adults
  5. come on, the principle is exactly the same. It seems that the lockdown rules were well intentioned (although even that is disputed), but MANY of them were just straight up absurd, and 100% counterproductive. for example, the 3-hour exercise window, clustering everyone together within a 5km radius. We all benefit by considering and calling out stupid rules, whether they be C19 or e-tolls
  6. lol - highlighted just so it was clear!
  7. it is the responsibility of all citizens in a functioning democratic society to critically consider the actions of the government, including its rules and laws, and to call out those that are pernicious, self-serving or irrational. This is responsible civic duty, and exposes things like E-tolls and other misuse of government power to demand responsible governance, for the betterment of all
  8. i think its best if you just blindly obeyed every single rule and law that is fed to you
  9. its really sad how you did not just keep quiet and use this as a teaching moment, but that speaks such volumes about you, doesn't it, avatar and all? And please do not for 1 minute try to convince anyone you give 2 sheets about the financial well-being of the other multi-entry card holders, the poor and oppressed under class for whom you so resolutely and bravely stand up. Don't kid yourself, bucko, this is all about YOU. well done.
  10. I agree with the quagga buttons comment - it really is an unfair guilty pleasure. But the rest of Africa comment is not my experience. My business is outside of SA in the rest of Africa, and while comparatively and seemingly disorganized, "chaotic" and without apparent system or order, you could not be further from the truth. It is just less western than SA. But make no mistake, things work, just in ways that you are not familiar with, and likely would be uncomfortable with
  11. but this is my point - you seem quite preoccupied to unearth my "intent", rather than acknowledge that my risk mitigation is equally effective, even though it ignores the rules. Why are you so worried about my intent? It seems to be the same point that is being made over and over again which is steeped in moral outrage and you all twisting yourselves in knots to try to frame my behaviour as "bad" by coming up with all these silly hypotheticals.
  12. Based on your comments in this thread I think it would be better if you followed the rules - all of them. I just feel you would be happier that way
  13. That is not nuanced, it is merely attempt to try to create a "gotcha" moment along the same lines of argument of riverrat, jewbacca etc. How are those 2 scenarios you have described in any way materially different?
  14. so very well said. A wonderful beacon of rationale balanced reason in a sea of mindless self-congratulatory conformism
  15. Are you being intentionally obtuse? When riding alone, I come upon other riders from time to time. But I guess the point about nuance is made (again)
  16. 10/10 for getting the PF reference! And since we're in a bad made-for-tv movie, you WERE the one who referred to anger, your honour!
  17. nope, I do not do that, and (possibly) like you, I really despise inconsiderate behaviour. But (and possibly like you), I also have a brain, and am capable of thinking through things. And on this matter of wearing masks while riding, when alone, I consider it WHOLLY fine and COMPLETELY acceptable from a risk point of view. The problem with modern discourse these days is that nuanced argument is sacrificed at the altar of populist virtue signalling. go ahead and feel warm and righteous in showing everyone how law abiding you are, if it makes you and your 2000 fb friends feel good, if for only a short while. Feel free to judge and scorn my view as it has not effect on my opinion, and certainly not on my behaviour
  18. you sound like a bad made-for-TV movie lawyer: "just answer the question yes or no". Grow up, this is a bigger point, and YOU know it
  19. all the furious anger has come from the proponents of mask wearing. I merely offered my personal view point on it - I don't care if you wear/don't wear a mask. I will always take the necessary steps to manage my own risk. for example, when I come upon large groups of riders, I just steer well clear. Sure, I spare a thought about their foolishness, but do I find the need to get all righteous on social platforms about it? Nope
  20. I don't pee in public - is that a Cape Town thing? No wonder you okes are all so hysterical about this!
  21. Its a moot point, because group riding is prohibited. I ride alone
  22. lol - gotta get the monkey off your back. Chicken Little morphed into Chicken Licken
  23. That is a different point, and I do not support group riding. I agree that it is irresponsible and likely places people at unnecessary risk - here I think we step over the risk line from possibility to probability. I speak only for myself about not wearing a mask while riding alone. I cannot be held responsible for the fact that others can't be trusted to behave as responsibly as me, but at the same time, I do not accept mindless rules when I am more than responsible to ensure that I am practicing an acceptable level of risk management
  24. What, like on the the road, or on the Spruit? Please explain, I am curious.
