  1. Me too. I have not looked back since switching from Schwalbe to Maxxis - I used to ride a Racing Ralph and Rocket Ron combo. The Schwalbes are a lot lighter than the Maxxis, but the performance and wear I get out of the Maxxis is much better for me, and I am not too bothered by the additional grams. The additional strength of the Maxxis has given me a lot more forgiveness in those sideways out of control moments, compared to burping the living $hit out of the Schwalbes and coming pipe. Also, the price of Schwalbes (the side wall protection version) is nuts
  2. look for the line of glowing cyclist making their way up chappies at 80km/h!
  3. That is VERBATIM the same argument that doper Kevan Evans used - these guys must really believe their own BS to come up with such bollocks.
  4. I see Dormakaba have scrubbed her from their profile. #consequences
  5. Ja, check your results - check your DOPE TEST RESULTS! That tweet did NOT age well!
  6. I'm not sure this is fair on other athletes who are likely to be equally competitive, but make different choices, because it is a CHOICE, at the end of the day, and one that is made with the full understanding of its gravity. It goes to the character of the person who is prepared to say "To hell with the consequences, I'm going to do this", because the ripples extend far beyond the individual rider's career. This thread makes that pretty clear - the other team riders, the coach, the sponsors' continued appetite to associate with the sport etc etc. Very selfish, self-centered and in the final analysis, @ssholish. Certainly supports your friend's comment about the personality of Carmen I think this is the most damaging thing in these cases. Its not like professional cycling in SA is a utopian paradise of opportunity for good athletes, getting snapped up left right and centre by armies of sponsors just waiting to smother good riders with cash, kit and careers. It's such a fragile and unforgiving landscape that the anger and reviling of dopers like Carmen is more than justified, because they really do F#$K it up for the few who are trying to make their way in the sport.
  7. I think we are saying the same thing
  8. I think that is also a dick move. Seller should have had the honesty to tell the buyer - oke would probably have paid the R400 anyway.
  9. buts it's right, though. At the end of the day, willing seller, willing buyer always prevails, and if the seller gives in a little bit on his asking price and the buyer feels like he gets a small geluk, even if he is paying a bit more than he wanted, then the market place is working well. Hard nosed non negotiable sellers holding out for months on end and @sshole buyers bidding 50% and more below the asking price result in a non-functioning market which fails in the end.
  10. wow, that is such a dick move. Even if they then took out the full price I would love to be able to tell them to get stuffed
  11. I would be nervous to buy a used MTB, and I don't think I am alone. The increase in popularity of the discipline I think may have contributed to the issue of stuff not selling on the Hub because there is a bigger proportion of MTB vs road bikes and paraphernalia.
  12. very interesting thread. I wonder if there are any cycling "fashion" trends affecting sales either. Are different types or styles of riding affecting sales?
  13. If you really want to enjoy cycling, then smoking has to go. But that's a good thing, because cycling will keep you off the smokes. I quit 2 or 3 times and started up again, once after nearly 2 years - proper stupid. I then started MTB, and could not get up the smallest hill without wheezing, coughing and snorting like an asthmatic warthog. But the riding bug had bitten, and I hated not being able to keep up with people who were hopelessly unfit and out of shape. I also badly wanted to have a go at a stage race, and knew that I could not carry on smoking, and so I stopped. That was 4 years ago, and I think I am now safe. Use your cycling as your motivation. Set riding goals like doing really tough races or long distances or hectic climbs. The satisfaction you get from achieving these constantly reinforces the decision to stop smoking, and reduces the risk of relapse, or so it happened in my case. Good luck smokers, and its never too late to chuck the twakkies. To add to your motivation, remember that if you quit before you get a smoking related illness, you almost certainly will not get one. Don't leave this too late, or you will really learn the true meaning of regret.
  14. I get it, you vape!
  15. i just tried to enter the 70 - is it fully booked?
  16. Its starting to get WARM (as in VUH-RUM). He writes nicely. Going to be some serious racing over the next 2 days. Go Pyga Eurosteel!
  17. You must have an impressive recovery time - the only thing flat at SBR is my will to live!
  18. The unfortunate thing about the Wahoo products is that if you are with Discovery, and like to accumulate points, then you cannot use the Element to get Vitality points. I bought an Element a few months ago, and the okes who distribute were a little economical with the truth on this point, which really pi$$ed me off. As a result, I never use the blerry thing. They said you could do manual uploads to Garmin Connect, but Discovery will not credit any workouts manually uploaded or edited. Only workouts loaded through proprietary websites from the respective manufacturer's devices will be credited, which includes Garmin and Suunto. Wahoo relies on third party sites, like TrainingPeaks - they do not have their own hosting for data collection. Sucks, because the devices are lekker
  19. Karbonkelberg? That is a thing - seriously? Gotta love SA! How do you even BEGIN to translate Karbonkel??!! (well, without a risk of warning points!)
  20. This first post sounds rather similar to a long stream of repetitive posts by someone with around 2220 posts, or am I being paranoid? #Rule1.4 #justsaying
  21. hmmm, I wonder? Surely if they started the race in a different place it would have changed the weather?
