  1. Just get one of those 5 litre plunger garden spray jobbies. The nozzle is adjustable to fine spray or jet. If my bike is not dirty I can get away with cleaning the entire bike with about 3-4 litres of water. If muddy it is around 8-9. I started using it after the restrictions we had in Gauteng late last year and am still using it now. Apart from wasting water with the hose, I find that the ground around the area where I wash the bikes gets rediculously muddy and mushy...
  2. edit..... didn't read above post
  3. Was there yesterday...chocs were possibly still being off loaded as they were still setting up a few stands etc. after 11:30 and collection was from 10... Apparently there was no power either so you had to walk a K to get to the nearest ATM to pay for late entries (not for me but for a friend). Oh well
  4. Asked for some tabs and never saw any chocs.....
  5. All new SLX M7000, XT M8000 and XTR M9000 brakes are I spec II and require an I spec II compatible shifter to integrate into the brake clamp thus taking advantage of the slim look and lower weight. The shifters are also available in Clamp and I spec B to allow integration to older braking systems as well as other manufacturers. Think that is a typo on the CWC site....
  6. Which Ice-tech rotors do you have? Model number? RTXX? Are you running metal or resin pads with the fins?
  7. Well that is the plan but now Rapide are out or 24mm rims . have to wait a month or 2 for new stock. Not sure if there are any other decent 24mm internal width rims that are on par and similarly priced?
  8. Wow that place is a serious leg killer. Had to walk up most of the last hill section. Was impressed with myself for riding most of it! Did my fastest top end ever of 66.2km/h and that was just with my weight pulling me down (MTB). Probably could have gone faster but didn't want to fly off the edge of the bends . Brake disc got nice and blue too...
  9. Just received some feedback from the local agents regarding the Formula hubs on my bike and it seems they are on par weight-wise when compared to the latest SLX and XT offerings. One other advantage is that they have sealed bearings and not the cup and cone with loose balls which I believe are found in the Shimano hubs... While it may be easier and cheaper to service the Shimano hubs I am sure the sealed bearing setup would not need to be replaced as often as the Shimano's are serviced....but I could be wrong... While the Formula hubs are no where near as good as the hubs offered in the Rapide wheelsets I think they should be good enough to keep me roll'in for a few thousand Km's or so
  10. Call Finishline cycles in Kempton park as well Hot Spot cycles in PTA. See what they have on offer in your price range
  11. Is this failure on the new M7000 range or earlier models?
  12. Ok great. It is the comfort I am looking for
  13. Would it not be a 3% difference in pedal cadence as well and is that significant enough to "very bad"?
  14. I see that the XT M8000 crank is also offered in 180mm. I currently have a 175mm and am a touch over 2m tall. As the 180mm is more expensive, what benefit would I see with the extra 5mm or is it negligible in the bigger picture of things?
  15. Ok so I have done a little over 60km's since the last spoke change and it seems to be holding up this time... probably only about 20km's off road! Will give it a little more time and then make a decision. I am now leaning towards a rim and spoke rebuild onto my hubs as it will be the cheaper option but I will see what the funds are like when the time comes...might just be worth it to go the whole nine yards and get it over with and forget about it. This with the Rapide option . Thank you all for your advice and opinions but please feel free to continue to add and comment...the more info the better, if not for me but for someone else that may need to do this in the future
  16. I have walked around a few shops and felt the shift difference between SLX M7000 and XT M8000 and the XT definately feels more clunky, especially on downshifts (with and without the clutch engaged)...and this is with a mix of rear derailleurs! The XT is so clunky and a little irritating to me, so much so that I am considering an SLX shifter when I make the jump to the XT groupset. I suppose it depends on what you prefer....some people want to hear or feel that they have changed and some want a smooth shift and some are not bothered at all
  17. Yes that is the one. I suppose they are Formula hubs then....never knew that was a brand of hubs! I always thought that was referring to the brand of the through axle silly me. Anyone know how Formula hubs match up to Shimano in terms of performance and durability?
  18. I cannot see the model number on my hubs as nothing is printed on them and I haven't been able to see anything with the wheel off either. I also cannot find any info on the net with regards to the specific hub type but I can only assume it will be Deore or more than likely something below that....based on my bikes price point Oh and rims are Jalco Merida Big nine Comp. They measure about 24mm on the outside so possibly 20-21mm on the inside. I don't want to go too wide as I would still like the tyre to protect the rim hence me looking at the 24mm ID rims.
  19. Sorry I was trying to point out that if I am going to pay almost a wheel R2000 for a new rim to be built over to my hubs using new spokes that I might as well just the whole wheelset with new and better hubs...or am I missing something else!
  20. Thank you for your opinion but wouldn't I be better off going for the Rapide wheelset @+/-R4400 as I don't have the greatest hubs to start with (entry run of the mill spec)...
  21. Thank you for the offer but I believe those wheels have a lower spoke count and thus won't be as strong when compared to those with 32 spokes...
  22. Thank you all for the further feedback and advice I have been weighing up my options for the last few weeks and it seems my best option is to go with a Rapide TR29 wheelset at +/-R4400. Only problem is I need to purchase 6-bolt rotors for which I will try and get the RT86 ice-techs as I would eventually like to upgrade to the M8000 groupset and brakes (put on hold now due to wheel issue ) If I go with just a spoke and wheel rebuild and it does not work for me then I will need to spend the money anyway by going all out... So to continue are there any other heavy D's out there (110kg's+) that have been using this wheelset and for how long without any issues?
  23. The Ryder or Fugit (same product different label) dries to a cardboard like feel and appears to be heavily water based. You cannot peal it off like the regular latex-like sealants such as Stans. I had to soak my Ryder filled tyres in water and then scrub with a sponge to remove the dried sealant.
  24. See attached image of a few Maxxis tyres. The LUST Crossmark will have the LUST label on the side wall. Usually the crossmarks that come with new bikes are only meant for tubes and have thin side walls. The EXO casing is also good but not as thick as the LUST variants. I have also used the Ryder sealant but for some reason it does not dry or cure as quick a Stans!
