  1. After many years of driving around with my Venter installed, Venter Bicycle rack on my trailer, I finally decided to get rid of the flapping piece of cr@p. This was after I had to do an emergency stop the save the bicycles falling of the trailer after several of thos little arm holding the wheels in place had started breaking. I finally settled on Strides.co.za  I am indeed still waiting for the guys from Hanler products to reply (maybe they will in 2017) so Strides was almost the default choice. Was slightly difficult to peg down Mark from Strides, but when the wheels started turning their service and quality product made the wait worthwhile. The new rack looks awesome  and the workmanship is great. Thank you Mark. I will have no problem recommending Stides.co.za if ever you require a trailer fitted bicycle rack.
  2. I was lucky enough to ride the Royal Drakensberg ride at All Out Adventures on Sunday. What an awesome experience. We did the 20km ride (I have learned that the long distances are for the purists) which was challenging but fun. The start venue was fantastic, ROAG did a great job with entries etc, The goodie bag actually had some goodies in, and for an entry price of R90 we even got a long-sleeve T-shirt. Marshalling and route marking was top notch. We had five river crossings in the 20km ride, all singletrack, except for 1km on tar to get to Montusi. Water tables, or view points, were well stocked with lots of sweets and fruits, not just some water. The organisers did not arrange the views and the weather, but those were near perfect too. I could also book in the monsters, those not riding, into the Kids Zone. The cost was R50, but included snacks and drink, supervised play area, with zip lines and lots of other entertainment. We had a tough time dragging the kids away. In all the staff at All Out Adventures (and Chris in particular) did an amazing job. We will most certainly be back. Unfortunately you have to brave the R74 past Sterkfontein to get there from JHB, but the Royal Drakensberg Event is worth adding to your calender. There is a 45km ride as well, the guys looked fairly broken when they came back, so there is something for the purists too.
  3. I did the green route with the wife and friend from work yesterday. Nothing fast or fancy, just to get a feel for the venue. Wifey's words were that its nothing special, kakiebos and eucalyptus and all, but its on our doorstep and its off-road. And that makes it absolutely AWESOME. There are surely some things to sort, oncoming riders being one, but it is fabulous to finally have something nearby. I have captured the green and blue routes in Google Earth. Will gladly forward the .kmz files. PM me.
  4. Damn. For the first time in days I am not looking forward to spending the weekend with my wife and five matric girls on a Geography tour. Would much rather be trying out the new rides on my doorstep.
  5. Looking forward to riding. A few questions? How much does it cost? Once you have found parking where do you go? I assume you enter the riding area through the gate in the north west, ie turn left after passing under the Gautrain. Surely that would be a more logical point to get riding permits, sign forms and make payment?
  6. Will be using my bike to get there. Fabulous.
  7. Thanx. So girls (Sprog) may ride in 15-35km races. If I read this correctly.
  8. I could try finding this info on the CSA website, but its fairly unfriendly. I have asked a few people at ROAG and Advendurance. I need to know if my daugter (aged 10) will be allowed to enter a MTB event. Not the long distances, but between 20-30km. We did the Country Challenge near Walkerville yesterday and despite it being her first ride over 20km, and despite entering for a 30km ride (which ended up at 38km) she managed to finish without too much problems. However, afterwards we were told that she was actually not allowed to enter? Does anybody know what the official ruling is? There are no plans to race, its purely for fun, but it would be rather pointless if I get her the standard R75 license and she is not allowed to enter.
  9. http://www.imfolozimtb.co.za/enterOnline.php The website does not appear to be working but this page still opens. There is an email address for Stu Berry, contact him and ask when it opens. Normally a week or two for only previous years riders, then it opens for whomever interested. Not cheap but very enjoyable.
  10. Slypskool: Dis waar jy jou byl skerpmaak
  11. <p>Was ever so slightly interested as two friends tried and failed in 2011 on the Draak. BUT, I mapped the route in google earth and decided that discretion is the better part of valour. Even the last 20km's of tar won't help. Its going to be tough, and if it rains its going to be near impossible. Good luck to all those who enter. Enjoy!!!</p>
  12. Was my first MTB ride when I started back in 2009. Not a nice ride as mentioned above. Shorter than 40km, congestion and mud/grass. Rather save your money.
  13. I have the route as a kml file. Drop me a PM if interested.
  14. So I must assume no Hubbers are doing the "Over the Edge" on Saturday. I helped with the route mapping and now I feel the urge to drive through to Van Reenen on Saturday to attempt the 45km ride. Maybe its just because for the first time in 11 years I have not entered for one of the big 3 (my opinion) Shova, 94.7 and Argus. Will decide at 4am on Saturday.... Just three hours to Van Reenen and that "edge"
  15. I must agree with you. The Argus organisers are only after the money. From memory, it was always take over the entry from a willing party, pay a Subs fee - R100 or something, fill in form and you're sorted. Now they are doubling the cost for the late entry. The admin to change cannot be that intense. The result: a) The person trying to get rid of an entry will simply end up not being able to, despite changed circumstances. B) Peops will simply ride on the original entry details, woopy if its illegal. I am one of those having to get rid of two entries, because circumstances changed. Honestly, despite the beauty and vibe of the race (I have done 10), things like this makes me understand why I am moving away from road cycling and big races.
  16. This was exactly the point I reached yesterday. Entered the Argus, joined the PPA (thats another story), paid the R75-00 to CSA in the process. PPA sent me a little crappy piece of cardboard. How was I going to prove I had a license. Then I was told that I missed and e-mail in December pointing towards finalising the process by registering on the CSA website. In the interim I had paid the R50-00 to ROAG, whom I have only had good dealings with. So I registed on the CSA website, picked ROAG as my club and as a PPA member. Club approval came through in 30 minutes, and about and hour later CSA approval was confirmed and my CARD was emailed to me. Will laminated the card, and voila, I have proof. Sweet......
  17. Full marks to CSA. I have been doing the "low-impact" license thing for the last four years. The process in 2011 is by far the smoothest and the quickest its ever been. Minutes from start to finish. Well done guys.
  18. Fatal error: Call to a member function load() on a non-object in /home/mtbikium/public_html/components/com_community/libraries/core.php on line 669 Sounds pretty dire to me....
  19. Nothing works, just grinds away. Is it me? Got in on my cell last night, but the drop page comes in at over 3mb
  20. Spoke to Annie's side-kick right off. Then emailed Anie. No joy, will go through the slog on 15 October.
  21. Struisbaai, how I wish, but December is 2-half months away. My better half with on conference this weekend so I will be looking after three kids. BUT, early morning rides will be performed at 5am on Friday and Saturday. The rest of the time will be spent doing the things the Mommy normally does, well I will try...
  22. So I am doing my tenth Shova this year. The wife decides to ride the Baby-Shova (thats the 38km ride). I entered using the mtncycling website. All is well HA.... I do not get a seeding mail, check and find that I am not entered. Despite the website entry portal accepting entry fees for both myself and my wife, it lists me as entry incomplete. I do the phone and email thing, and yes, I can enter, we can sort it all out on 15/16 October. For some reason the event organisers are unable or unwilling to facilitate entry/seeding changes during the next FOUR WEEKS, Surely as the event organiser things like this can be sorted out before registration? Surely the entry portal must warn of incomplete entry details (especially after accepting full payment) I am just completely flumoxed by the care less attitude. This will be my last Shova, quite sad as I rate it higher than the Argus,
  23. Sorted, well I sourced a second-hand frame. Googled Namib frame and thehubsa popped back with an earlier thread from backwheelbandit. After a brief e-mail burst I am now the proud owner of a LARGE Namib frame (One extreme to the other B) )Will get my LBS to switch over the components, yah, yah, I know I should do it myself, but it needs a service anyway. Again, thank you to all for you suggestions and help.
  24. En ekke issie so vet nie.....
