  1. I remember meeting Barry at a mine dump ride he organised for Hubbers many years and we've interacted on many occasions since on various forms of social media. We also shared a birthday. The world will be a poorer place. Rest in Peace my friend.
  2. Well done!
  3. Yip, finished in 1:17 2nd placed guy in 1:30 and the 3rd in 1:34
  4. What a brilliant 20k run this morning through Avianto and Phambili (my garmin measured 20.6). Really lekker route which was well marked. Predominantly all single track with a very small section next to the tar connecting the two venues.
  5. Come to Avianto on Sunday
  6. What's the heel / toe drop on them?
  7. I streamed the Sunderland v Liverpool game this afternoon and although not HD quality I had a pretty darn good stream throughout the match. Used: http://www.sportingvideo.tv/
  8. I used to subscribe to Netflix but never renewed once the subscription expired. Reason being is that the all the series are generally a couple of seasons old. So I now download straight. I did make use of Unotelly for DNS purposes when I subscribed to Netflix.
  9. I stopped the premium option on DSTV probably close to 2 years ago. I still have the R29 monthly option. I have a 4mb ADSL connected through a router to an HP Server that runs Crunchbang Linux. On the server I run Sickbeard, SABnzbd and Plex Media Server. Ihave an external 2TB drive connected to the server and everything downloads to that drive. All TV series and movies are then played via wi-fi from the server to a Western Digital Live TV box and then to the TV. There are a number of different websites that I use for streaming live TV as and when required.
  10. Ridden at Avianto a couple of times and the trails aren't too technical.
  11. Only done 1 Monty but have my permanent number for Rhodes. Was also thinking of going back this year if I can get an entry.
  12. Picked up the Osprey Rev 12 backpack this afternoon from The Mindful Runner in Emmarentia (http://www.mindfulrunner.co.za/). As it is a small/medium it offers 10lt of storage (as opposed to 12lt with the medium/large) and comes with the Osprey 2.5lt bladder. Perfect for the longer trail runs such as Brauhaus, Crazy Store, Mnweni, 4 Peaks and Skyrun and it comes with a lifetime warranty on the pack itself. http://www.ospreypacks.com/en/product/endurance__trail_fitness/rev_12
  13. There is also a 20km trail run at Avianto the same day. http://www.ilumin8events.com/biogen-resolution-trail-run/
  14. Why a Salomon hydration pack? Plenty of other suitable packs in the market such as Ultraspire and Osprey. I'm actually going to get myself the Osprey Rev 12 which can also double as hydration pack for MTBing. Had a lovely couple of trail runs in Sabie over New Year and came across Dennis Lawrie setting up the route for the SA Trail champs at the end of the month.
  15. Never had any issues whilst running either by myself or in a group. I wouldn't cycle alone through the Koppies though. We're normally in a group of at least 5.
  16. I'm so fortunate that I have both Alberts Farm & Mellville Koppies on my doorstep. To get rid of yesterday's excesses, I had an awesome run this morning that included both the above as well as the Botannical Gardens and Montgomery Park. Just over 16k's with less than 1k on tar!
  17. Hope brakes just work. Full Stop!!
  18. Alberts Farm this morning.
  19. Take it slow. As you're used to running, albeit a while ago, I would start off with a 2 - 3km run, slowly. Do that 2 x a week for 2 weeks and then once your body is used to the stresses, increase to 3km. Keep that up for a 2 weeks and then add in an extra day to make it 3 x per week. Once you're comfortable take that up to 5km and then start building up speed.
  20. Managed to do almost 35km of trail running with probably only 10% on tar this weekend, without driving anywhere. Quads are feeling it today though. Does anyone stock Ultimate Direction products in SA?
  21. So what you okes are then saying, is that, if I purchased a pod machine, I'd be viewed as a coffee philistine! Mind you, I'll tell you a little secret, I buy ground coffee from Checkers and use it in my aeropress at work, so I suppose that already makes me one.
  22. Isn't a pod machine a pod machine? Surely it would depends on the coffee in the Pod as well as the pressure of the water?
  23. I see Woolworths is selling an Espresto for approx R1.4k. Is it worth it? Are Nespresso pods compatible? And whether it's imported from Israel or not, that doesn't worry me
  24. Go have a chat with Fred at Mindful Runner in Emmarentia. http://www.mindfulrunner.co.za/
  25. Anyone have recommendations for a running type vest that can hold a 2lt bladder and 2 x 500ml bottles as well as food / rain jacket etc? I'm looking at... http://www.inov-8store.co.za/catalog/product/view/id/216857/s/race-ultra-vest-black-red/category/1473/ http://ultraspire.com/product/alpha/ but damn, they're not cheap and the Salomon is ridiculously priced.
