  1. It doesn't matter where the frames or parts come from. Silverback was a SA brand. They have turned their back on SA and have moved to Germany. That means they now contribute to the economy of Germany and not SA. By the way, somebody earlier on mentioned that Moewood also comes from the East. They don't, the frames are made right here in SA and I think the same applys to Pyga.
  2. Don't forget the South African Volcans with their Swiss logos.
  3. Ergonomics.....quality.......?most people wouldn't even know the difference if it slapped them in the face. Take the same frame, paint Specialized on it and triple the price and I guarentee you that those same guys will rave about how wonderful it is.

    SRAM Apex

Apex was apparently aim squarely at Shimano 105, but is something like 135g lighter than 105. It is therefore in the same class as 105. There was a write up on www.cyclingnews.com sometime back. Do a search on the site, I'm sure that you will find it. Go for the Apex White. It is stunning, the shift levers, rear deraileur and crank are all white. Will look awesome on a black bike
  5. Wouldn't even consider the Merida. It has an aluminium frame and I think the Giant is most specced with Tiagra. If you can get the Axis for R15 500 as mentioned above, rather get that. You get full Ultegra and full carbon. The Space 2 as mentioned above is a damn nice looking bike and maybe you could get it discounted from the recommended price.
  6. Metal does stretch. Take a piece of wire and bend it, it doesn't snap. The outside of that piece of wire is stretching, or getting longer. If it wasn't able to get longer, the wire would not bend.
  7. I would love to know the stats. Have vehicle thefts etc decreased since these car guards have sprung up. I normally tip them for reason other than feeling sorry for them. I spoke to an old lady who did the PE Central shift. She told me that on a good night, she could get R600.
  8. Used them twice. Once for a bike i sold and once for a bike I bought. Very good service and arrived on time
  9. There are two that I know of. The problem is finding their details. There is a German guy in J/bay. I spoke to him sometime back and he told me that he only does the repair and not the paintwork. I have long since lost his name and number. The other is a chap in Lorraine who does (or used to) do the carbon fibre work on the racing and sports cars at Hitech. I might be able to get his number for you. Give me a day or so to find it.
  10. Where do you find these 27.5 (650b) wheels? I've done a Google search and can only find the "road" wheels in 650b size.
  11. They are very much service orientated. I sent them a mail via their website and received a very promp reply via email and a telephone call from one of their sales staff too.
  12. It's amazing. The cops are always so worried about the number plate being obscured, but what about the lights? isn't it more dangerous to have the tail, brake or indicator lights obscured?
  13. Saw this in the pits at Aldo Scribante on Sunday. Picture quality not too good, but should please the single speed fanantics none the less.
  14. Consider the Strella Concept. It is basically the 2012 name for the Monza. It is not much more than the 2011 Monza.
  15. Omnico are the distributors of Tektro products in SA. I'm sure you will get their contact details off their website. www.omnico.co.za
  16. sorry for blank post. Trying to load photo from my phone, but it won't work and it won't let me remove the post.
  17. Bell Ukon is in that range. I was tail ended by a car and I landed on my back with my head whip lashing onto the tar, that helmet saved my life. You get a crash policy that allows you to buy a new one at a 70% discount limited to the original purchase price.
  18. I’m not a mathematician, but there is no way that formula can be right. Consider my personal situation as an example. I bought a bike with a 25-12 cassette and 53-39 crank. This formula shows the largest sprocket I can run is a 27. I have fitted a 28-12 and it works fine. The 28 tooth sprocket is one tooth more than the range. Now, lets do the same calculation with the 28-12 cassette. The formula now shows the maximum sprocket size to be 30. My 28 tooth sprocket is now 2 teeth within the range. Also, one of the rear derailleur’s job is to take up the slack of the chain as it moves between the range of gears. There is more than just the largest sprocket to consider.
  19. About R1 000
  20. Ja............the Germans feel nothing for nudity. My wife's family are German and I've seen some weird things on our few visits there. I don't want a steel barrier, I like to park my car there when I know I have to go out again.
  21. I live on blind corner, I've already had a drunk youngster take out the lamp post in front of my house and a guy took out my neighbour's wall. We've asked the municipality for speed bumps, but they refused. No my neighbour doesn't tan topless and I wouldn't want her to either. Their garden is so overgrown, nobody could see her anyway.
  22. I can't really say. He did have a orange cycling top on, so I don't know if he was commuting in that or doing a training ride. He had an oldish, cheap type of bike, but I didn't pay much attention to it. The bag is my gym bag. I've since been for two quotes and neither panel beaters would believe me that it was a cyclist. Turn out that there is a dent behind the bumper in the body panel too.
  23. I did not tell the whole story. My wife called me to tell me there was a cyclist in an orange top checking out my car, when I went outside, he cycled away. I did not suspect he had crashed into the car and I only noticed the damage a few minutes later when I left for gym. I passed a guy a few k's further up on a bike with an orange shirt, so I stopped him and asked if he knew anything about my car, only then he admited it was him. So, yes, it may take a while for him to heal, but my sympathy for him is a lot less, seeing he did not have the decency to come and tell me that he had crashed into my car.
  24. The bike looked fine, but I was more worried about my car.
  25. Last night, I parked my car on the pavement outside my house, behind a tree. A cyclist came past, lost control of his bike, hit the tree and bounced into my car. The pictures are not too clear as it was taken early evening with my phone, but look at the damage to the tree and my car. The boot is also bent inwards and does not open properly. He was pretty banged up, but I cannot believe a person on a bike can do so much damage.
