  1. Just some off-topic humor. EWC = expropriation without compensation, and some Stellenbosch wine farm has had an eventful few weeks. Good luck with the event!
  2. HIJACK ON EWC and Stellenbosch are a bad combination at present. HIJACK OFF
  3. Love the new bike lane too. Why there are still some idiots who chose to cycle in the road is beyond me. Probably the subject of a different discussion.
  4. I still believe Goosen must be in the RWC mix for 2019. Not in the starting line-up (Pollard gets my vote), but to cover at 10, 12 or 15 off the bench. https://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/Springboks/johan-goosen-harbours-rwc-ambitions-20180725
  5. K and I did Contermans on Saturday - another perfect day out on the trails. Didn't get to the mast over yonder though.
  6. My vote for pics of the year ... thus far. Nice one!
  7. Meerendal for a change. Perfect day, and the trails are in superb condition. Loved the new sections before getting to Stairway to Heaven.
  8. Johan Goosen ...
  9. I personally thought the organisers got it just right this year, with something for the whole family and across the talent spectrum. Yes, there was some congestion, but never such that you had to uncleat. I did the 30km, and my wife the 70km. We both said we hope the routes and event remains unchanged next year. That's why entries are limited.
  10. It's tough and fairly rugged terrain. I wouldn't think it's suitable for a beginner.
  11. https://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/PRO14/johan-goosen-back-in-cheetahs-no-10-jersey-20180412 Could be interesting! I still rate him as one of the raw talents in world rugby. Early injuries as a youngster, and mismanagement by his agent, hasn't allowed him to shine through. Based on pure sentiment, I'll back him as an outsider to take the no 10 for RWC. But he'll have to show his class between now and then.
  12. Will be there! Tough race. 30km for me.
  13. Condolences to the two fallen riders and one marshall. Went past the crash on M3 and saw medics doing CPR. A few raves: The new start location is excellent! No more criss crossing trying to enter one's shute. I got my tenth medal - whoplaa! Rants Can't think of any!
  14. Aiming for a sub-3 hour registration. Doubt my legs will last all the standing.
  15. Anybody know when the link between Melkbosstrand and Big Bay is scheduled for completion? It seems to be taking a long time to finish. Or have they run out of funds?
  16. That little sinkhole that's emerged on Victoria Road just before Glen Beach will be interesting to monitor over the next 10 days ...
  17. I always wondered how the Cape Town Stadium's atmosphere would be if the Blitzbokke weren't in the final. Now I know. And the traffic home was easy.
  18. PPA have raised their concern. http://www.capetalk.co.za/articles/278678/biking-group-raises-red-flags-over-chapman-s-peak-drive-road-surface
  19. Don't forget the fresh lemon juice!
  20. Probably more pictures are taken from this spot than any other, and it never gets boring. Yesterday was just a splendid day out on the bike.
  21. https://namibianhardwood.co.za/ I normally buy about 1 ton (55 X 18kg bags) once a year. Roughly R60 per bag. Gets delivered to my house and gets stacked for me. I know supply is environmentally controversial, because of ecological impacts at source. Although my supplier (who is a permit holder) assures me they only collect lose wood, and don't harvest from growing or dead trees. I'll conveniently believe him. And then of course the carbon footprint of trucking it all the way down to the Cape from Namibia. Not to mention the fact that I burn almost a ton of wood per year!! NOU gaan ons braai!!
  22. Kameeldoring wood - mostly. Weber gas - sometimes. Big Green Egg charcoal - on my wishlist.
  23. There were some massive hits being made, especially by the Lions.
  24. Single track isn't going to blow your mind but there's more than enough of it to enjoy. Not technical at all, and the whole route is on access controlled land - so very safe I'd say. But lots of thorns, so make sure you're tubeless with lots of slime. Well worth it. And make sure you have enough water for a 2.5 hour ride (red route).
