climbs in XCO are nothing in comparison, these are long steep climbs, one climb in the giro is almost the same length as an entire XCO world cup race.... he has a dodgy past....and he looked kinda out of place next to a 50kg climbing specialist born at huge altitude and a poor family at home to feed. (sorry, massive generalization there)
