  1. A friend asked me this question. Does anyone have or can point me in the direction of a 21km training plan for someone running around a 1h50 half? I guess around 10 weeks plan
  2. Does anyone recall how another French cyclist, Julie Bresset, also dominated the scene for a few years from around 2010? Won 4 World Cups, XC world champ in 2012 and 13, on the podium at every World Cup in 2012. Olympic champ in 2012. All of this also around the age of 23.
  3. If they remove helmets police suspend the chase for ‘safety reasons’ don’t they?????
  4. Comrades Marathon 2022 likely to be on Sunday 28 August.
  5. Where in Europe are you heading to? It’s quite a big place????
  6. Not necessarily. But it does start to matter if the likelihood of success is minimal from the outset and it’s taxpayer money being spent. I am of course not suggesting failure is a possibility and I’m sure a proper assessment has been done. But if one looks at the other big city marathons around the world who are not even trying to become a major and with the only other candidate event being Chengdu marathon (after Singapore marathons withdrawal) it makes one wonder. Cape Town is a Gold Label marathon which puts it against many other great city marathons already. Who would be paying? I imagine the organisers and ultimately the race sponsors - Sanlam, a few others, the City of Cape Cape and Western Cape government (ie the taxpayer)?? Maybe someone here has better knowledge of the process involved.
  7. Might be hard to compete with the likes of Berlin and London on the ‘flat course’ side of things. It has to be as close to pancake flat as possible for that. And ideally the route needs to show off the city. Somehow don’t think creating a world record fast course will be the focus.
  8. Max Cluer
  9. I find this news rather interesting. Potentially great news for SA and Cape Town but am interested to know the requirements and hoops to jump through to get it right. And particularly the costs involved as I’m sure they will be rather substantial, given the scale of the World Marathon majors group. It is after all a business, like the UTMB business model, so I’m sure large sums of money will need to be handed over and spent to get anywhere close to real consideration. Having done a few of the majors, as well as a few big city marathons (including Cape Town a few years ago), I get the feeling it can potentially be done but at what cost??
  10. Where is Geraint heading?
  11. Good chance he'll withdraw from the Tour soon
  12. Candice vs Mariske? Thoughts?
  13. Good point. However all the pure racers (especially carbon plate) aren't designed for high mileage at all anyway (or lose their effectiveness quite quickly). Many of the 'racing' type shoes, like the Nike Next % with the soft midsole, are also only truly effective for around 400km. Just had a look at that Maxed shoe on their website. It's a pity there are almost no specs on the shoe. Would be nice to know the weight, stack height, outsole material, full or partial carbon plate (looks like a fully woven plate in the pics?), drop etc. For that price though I must say it looks great in the pics. The upper looks very similar to the Nike flyknit uppers from a couple years ago. Those flyknit uppers are/were brilliant on the Nike. The outsole looks a little too complicated or a bit too much going on (weight) in terms of trying to achieve a racing shoe if that's the goal. Might just look like that in the pics though. For 800 bucks definitely worth a go.
  14. The body that distances over 42.2km falls under is the IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners). As far as I can tell and what I've heard is that the run of Des Linden hasn't been submitted for ratification (?). And even if it has it might not be ratified. I may be far off the mark here though but it's what I've heard. Regarding bonuses etc for the Nedbank event the listed record was still that of Aly Dixon on the race day so that is what stands and bonuses should be paid as long as any doping tests, if done, are a pass.
  15. Quite right. There's lots of potential with the 50k. It just needs the right financial incentive for athletes. The event yesterday and plans for upcoming events will definitely see a lot of interest from top marathoners.
  16. The cutoff to qualify for this years Boston was the quickest ever. One had to be 7min47 (and faster) than the qualifying standard time. With the reduced field of 20000 it was inevitable.
  17. Quite unbelievable. That is one very impressive record. Almost leaves one feeling a little suspicious which I know is not right. But who knows what was or wasn't happening as far as doping controls etc in the mid 90's. On a side note I can't say I'm a fan of the pacing lights. Haven't been since they've been introduced. Perhaps if they were only visible to the tv viewer that would be great. But the athletes should not have access to them in racing. Training with them no problem.
  18. Seems like he likes to mention the riders from his Rob meets series in particular.
  19. Assume you mean first ever Elite XCO WC race? He won U23 WC and World Champs last year
  20. Same as I recall being taught.
  21. Eliud Kipchoge takes the win. Makes it look so so easy. 2:04:30 Jonathan Korir 2nd in 2:06:40 Goitom Kifle 3rd 2:08:00
  22. Eliud Kipchoge cruising on his way to a win at the NN Mission Marathon in Enschede in the Netherlands. All alone from about 10ks to go.
  23. Oregon University has a newly rebuilt Hayward Field athletics stadium. What a setup. I suppose it helps when one of the regular donors to Oregon is Nike founder, Phil Knight. Knight has donated over $1billion to Oregon university over the years. The new Hayward Field is said to have cost over $270 million and Knight was a lead funder. Nicole Louw from SA is on the Oregon Cross country team. https://youtu.be/JDlYbkV_8aY
  24. Crazy fast. Pure speed or perhaps a little more going on?
