  1. On the road now. Looking forward to an awesome race. Will see you all there.
  2. Broke both my wrists and was out for 7 months. Was also uber weak when I started. The only advice I can give is when it hurts stop. Don't push it, and build up slowly. Lots of short rides. you will feel when you can go longer. Flexibility and strength will come back over time. Also never ride if you have to brace it for strength. Always ride under your own strength.
  3. Thanks for all the advice. Super excited and nervous to do this race, its been on the list for a long time now. A quick question, how do we taper for this race. Never tapered for anything so long. So I have put in the training and reaching the point where i need to cut back, but obviously don't want to do nothing. So do I just do short rides to keep loose? everyday or every other day?
  4. Could it have been worse?
  5. Do you really want to see the photo he will post? Can it be unseen?
  6. That one looks good, will give it a go.
  7. So I am on Android. But I cant seem to change the country. It auto detects it. This is the one I have been looking at. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.au.com.sbs.tdf2011.android&feature=related_apps#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwOSwiYWlyLmF1LmNvbS5zYnMudGRmMjAxMS5hbmRyb2lkIl0.
  8. So I was looking around and it seems the official android/apple app is not available for this country. Anyone using or used a decent app last year? suggestions? Or if you know how to bypass the country thing without rooting your phone that would help too.
  9. Happens to me every time I ride under power lines. Northern farms and that section on the spruit. Not the most pleasant feeling. Everyone I ride with thinks I am mad cause it doesnt happen to them. Its kinda wierd.

  11. So I found this, kinda clears things up for me on my plan to build with maple. I will definitely go this route. http://youtu.be/RGm_nJ8XZOw
  12. Nice! Well impressed.
  13. Yeah, that is hot. If I can get a finish anywhere near that I will be super stoked.
  14. Thanks for all the info and questions. It will help me make my decision. As I said this will be a first build for me so I am sure lessons will be learnt. The idea here though is a specific tone as mentioned. It is not the same as a normal speaker. However I will read some more and figure out the best way to do this. If solid wood is impossible then I will look at an alternative. I really hope that I can do it the solid wood way.
  15. The amp is a tube amp. The design is a simple Ax84 P1. There are schematics on the Ax84 website. As this is a first build it will be the simplest design. 1 preamp stage and the power tube stage. It should give us a very good 5 watt clean amp. My goal however is a lot bolder and as we know more we will adjust it. My dream build is something along the lines of the Mesa rectifier but in a smaller version (I will most probably never gig and remain a bedroom player, so building a huge high gain amp is out the question) So far from what I have read this complicates things quite a bit as you start to add more pre amp stages. So we starting with the smaller clean amp. We will try get it sounding awesome and then start playing around with more pe amp stages and more complicated designs. This is where the idea of building the cabinet came from. Its the end point of the tone. So the guitar and pick ups are good. Hopefully the amp turns out well. Then the last stage the cab will need to be well thought out in order to get a great tone. Luckily for me there are far cleverer people who have done the maths and design. So for now I wont be rebuilding the wheel but rather following someone else's design.
  16. The expensive wood is not just for tone. I have read that a few hardwoods will be good for tone. I want a wood that looks good too. anyway as I said I am learning as I go and I will see where it ends up. Some of the sound clips I have heard so far it is definitely heading in the right direction. Agreed dodgy cable will make a huge difference. But I am still going to build something that I want, along the way I may make mistakes and change things. That's why its a project. You going to have to excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by topography?
  17. Well here is the thing, this will be my first build. So there are still many things I have to work out. I do have a friend who makes wooden furniture and he is going to help me with the first build. So I guess I will be learning a lot from him. Post some pics of your bass builds I would like to see that.
  18. Well firstly its close backed with a port "The speaker cab will be made out of maple using a celestion speaker. It will have a closed back and a port which will be tuned to the lowest string of the guitar" The wood will def add or change tonality, its covered in multiple forums across the internet. I am not an experienced builder so I don't know how it will change but based on what I have read this is the conclusion i have come too. I will let you know when I have built it. I will be adding a celestion speaker not changing it. This build will be from scratch so no existing circuitry either. I am not sure I can build this cab well. But if it does turn out well I will certainly make a cab for you.
  19. Yeah it looks awesome. Hopefully we can get the packaging of the amp looking good like that. As far as the speaker goes I have been reading quite a bit and most people have recommended the maple as it will give the highs and lows and a nice mid punch. The maple will also match my Gibson Les Paul. But I haven't made the final decision yet. I have Maple, Mahogany, Rosewood and Cherry on the list at the moment. As I learn more I will make my decision. I could always build more than one as well. The wood will have to be a good looking hardwood, but I don't want to compromise on tone either.
  20. I think this counts for this thread. So my brother and I have a guitar amp and speaker cab build project on the go. We will be building an Ax84 tube amp. Aesthetically at first I think the amp will be quite rough. But the idea is to build a classy looking amp with exposed tubes. Sound wise there are many options that we can play with but it will probably be in the region of 5watts with the option of going bigger and adding more pre-amp stages for gain. The speaker cab will be made out of maple using a celestion speaker. It will have a closed back and a port which will be tuned to the lowest string of the guitar. All in all it should come out pretty epic. The sound through a tube amp is quite awesome. Also the smaller build will allow us to really crank the amp and get the tubes hot. When the power tubes in a guitar amp run hot you get some amazing tones out. So here's hoping it works and we don't blow something up. Added some picks to give you an idea of the direction we are heading.
  21. Iceid arrived yesterday, big thanks to them for this. My wife is now chilled with me riding again. Started gym yesterday. Not allowed to do anything upper body yet, but stoked that i am moving so quickly after. It was a very different story when I broke my wrists. Another 3 and a half weeks and I should be able to ride again.
  22. So I am back at work today. Not so happy about that. Saw the Dr yesterday and should be back on the bike in 6 weeks. Whoop.
  23. No problem, thought I should share it. Private hospitals don't even want you to lie down in casualty until they know you can pay. Also I forgot the numbers of the people I needed to call. Lucky my brother was with me so he sorted all that out.
  24. Wow Gila thanks will pm you. I will buy some for my friends as well.
