  1. Nothing quite like taking the wire bead gatorskins off and putting the brand new gp5000 on and suddenly feeling like you're just that much better of a rider
  2. There is no way that physio is a waste of money for me- every injury I've ever had has been improved and my recovery expedited and made complete by the treatments and explanations of the biomechanics behind my body's adaptation and compensation to injury. My reflex when a professional tells me that another professional's interventions are a waste of money is distrust.
  3. My hip surgery was in Knysna and when I followed up with the ortho back here in CT he told me that he does better out of MTB riders than he does out of cars, rugby and motorbikes combined. It may have been hyperbole but if you ride a bike, chances are you're going to be told, "Surgery then 6 to 8 weeks and do your physio exercises".
  4. A gravel bike is doable for sure especially since every year I've done it the descent of Rooiberg has got smoother BUT .... I will be there on my 100 mm travel dual suss XC bike and not my gravel bike.
  5. This guy put me back together superbly. I can't hammer a nail in straight, he put 3 MOFO screws into my bone with utter precision through a minuscule hole in my hip .... cost a fortune but I don't begrudge a cent cos without that expertise I would be a lame old mamil hobbling about the place with a crooked gait and all sorts of pain.
  6. Left femoral neck - non displaced fracture after stupid mistake at knysna trail center in 2017. An interesting walk down the trail using my old Merida as a crutch. Modesty dicktates ... I mean dictates.
  7. How many stairs did you jump?
  8. Probably about 250 riders? So many punctures coming through paarden Eiland. Thanks to the guys who stayed with me.
  9. It's a first attempt at rallying support in the community of cyclists. We all going to ride Sunday anyway so it costs nothing to do it. Maybe it's the first of a series of these rides - maybe they build momentum to the point where it attracts attention - whatever the case - at minimum its a bunch of riders moving through the affected area - it may be a low level message expressed in a soft voice but as @Jbrsays its something.
  10. Whoever it is that's involved and whatever the arrangement is, it's the only tangible thing I can do and the only thing beyond verbiage and social media posts that's been organized so I'm in.
  11. I think they partner samsun calendar app that pulls the info from Google calendar.
  12. I have countdown widgets on my cell phone home screen to all the major events I'm riding in the next 6 months. If I don't ride I don't feel good so I ride as much as possible. I love the feeling after smashing out a hard effort in a zwift race for an hour. I love how quiet my head is after 100 mile rides.
  13. Are ebikes allowed on the 50 miler?
  14. Well I've taken the plunge last night and entered cat 2 so I predict I will be dropped fairly quickly which as I say .... I don't really.mind. It's supposed.to.be LSD for 6 hours in the training plan so .... This is also what happens if you leave a mamil alone with his laptop and a credit card after 2 gin and tonics ... I'm surprised there isn't more chat here about these events though.
  15. If I owned that bike it would be called the highlighter in my strava profile. I quite like it actually, it's retro.
  16. Aha... that's me to T. I anticipate getting dropped for exactly the same reason and as I say I'm also lacking the short bursts that surges require at the moment. I've entered anyway and I don't mind 4 hour time trials, it's just the feeling of watching everyone disappear over the roller i don't like.
  17. That looks like very good value ...
  18. @Lizelle CarstensWould love to see the route for the marathon if it's available please.
  19. I'm thinking about entering the WP league event on 19 January in Philadelphia and wondering how competitive the various Cats are - I'm fairly fit - have a best CTCT of 3hrs11 - current FTP is 3,6 watts/kg - probably lacking in 1 through 5 minute power punches at the moment because of the kind of riding I've been doing - is Cat 3 the right one for me? 72km seems quite short so I'm tempted to go for Cat 2 which does 2 laps although I suspect that might be a bit ambitious - Thoughts?
  20. The irony is that to get to Woodbridge I will have to brave the cycle path... perhaps I'll run the koeberg interchange gauntlet.
  21. Who is organizing it?

First 2 comments are correct. The medium is too big for someone your height. If you bought it new from.a shop I think they should be forced to take it back and refund or provide the correct size which is probably a small or maybe even an Xtra small depending on brand.
  23. Yes doable on your own. Generally plenty of people about. While not very technically challenging, I wouldn't call it a beginner's ride. From newlands side it is quite steep in parts and the single track section above kirstenbosch can be a little tricky if wet.
  24. If on a mtb or gravel road it's worth using botterberg dirt road.
