  1. Trainer bike will be the most convenient - I am a one rider household so I have an old cracked frame trek emonda that lives on the trainer. Changing bikes between the QR frame and the through axle is a matter of changing the little socket adapters that come with the unit, removing the rear wheel and placing the bike on the trainer. It's a 5 monute job to remove one bike and put the other one on. A schlep to be sure but as you point out the kickr bike is pricey. Your pain points will be not losing the adapters and the effort and physical space needed to maneuver the various bikes around. If that schlep factor is too high to stop your training then the bike is a better option. Another point to consider is that bikes that get used on indoor trainers take a beating, not from the riding but from the corrosive effects of the sweat. Salt accumulates under bar tape, in the headset, just anywhere where the sweat goes and can be a big deal because it is very corrosive. In a one rider household, a kickr core and a dedicated el cheapo frame is probably most bang for buck. In your 3 person household it is doable but subject to caveat by the above.
  2. You're getting on a bit old chap

  5. Yes - IT will run with all the gaming platforms (Zwift, Rouvy, MyWhoosh) as well as Trainer Road etc etc. Connects via bluetooth or ant+ to phones, computers, tablets, smartwatches, headunits ....

And not allowing e-bikes on the short route is really really dumb
  7. Autumn in Cape Town --- it's an easy sell

    Tour de Worcester

Are ebikes allowed on the short route at Tour de Worcester next weekend? Don't see anything saying yay or nay on the website
  9. Sounds to me like you've already decided you coming down.
  10. True that
  11. The core with the zwift cog is the cheaper way to go - easy to change it from through axle to QR - and drivetrain differences are irrelevant with the zwift cog.
  12. Intervals icu FTW
  13. There's definitely a story here. care to tell it?
  14. Exactly. I'm not filling that in.
  15. I wonder how big the market is for riders who can easily ride 180km but would take between 9 and 10 hours. I'll definitely enter the 130 but will cast wistful glances at the 180 riders -- I might revise that view to one of relief and gratitude at about the 100km mark ....
  16. Got the same cut and paste.
  17. I'm definitely in. Was keen for last year and went to Graaf Reinet anyway when it was cancelled and rode around there and visited Mountain Zebra and watched some Freedom challenge riders coming through. Also unsure about how to show that I big enough to ride the 180 and don't see anything immediately apparent on the website that tells me how to do that. Race results? I no longer post most of my rides to Strava. Edit: Ah I see the cutoff is 4pm - giving about 8 hours - 8 hours for that would be a very good day for me. Pity because I have ridden harder and longer than that just slower.
  18. Now that the eroica and eroica nova are gone this is sure to grow.

  20. Pretty sure he's not having a great time right now
  21. Here's an idea for a wind tunnel video for GCN -- Wind tunnel comparison of these 150 ZAR socks https://aerostoresa.company.site/White-Aero-Socks-p488306640 and @Wanteds post of those 22k ones.
  22. That's about 22 ZAR - plus p and p... I wonder if there a second hand?? (foot?) pair somewhere for cheaper? And it's white
  23. I routinely get socks for father's day -- I'll have a word
  24. Hang on a mo - does this mean my aero socks are not really aero socks? What's the difference between what Pog and Rog are wearing and what's taking shape around the mamil calves?
  25. There are quite a number of threads on the forum discussing entry points into the market. Your sizing sounds right - maybe more towards the medium size than the small would be my sense but that might vary slightly from brand to brand. I would be wary of buying from sportsman's as you run the risk of a less than stellar building up of the bike and you may find that you are going back to a bike shop to tighten it up or correct mistakes. Of course you might luck out and walk away with it superbly assembled. I would look second hand and ask someone more knowledgeable to come with to look at it with you to check drive train and fork stanchion wear and cracks / breaks in frame. It is definitely better value than the new bikes at this price point. Know that this sport is expensive and if the bug bites which it sounds as if it has, you are better off spending more money up front because buying cheap at the beginning definitely creates more expense later. At the entry level, the difference between 10k and 15 or 16k on a bike, particularly second hand is very significant so bear that in mind and if your budget can stretch, do it. Also - form a relationship with a good bike shop. Their advice and support will be invaluable as you learn.
