  1. Suffered horribly on this last year. Signed up again cos I got that little trophy saying I did both. And cos I'm an addict.
  2. My 2 and a half year old Trek Domane - Stock except for wheels upgraded to Bontrager Aura 5 wheels.
  3. 150bpm .... 98 cadence .... 400 watts.... That is a triangle that would just never work for me.... In photographic terms its like f1.4 iso 100 and 1/100th where I'm more like f6.3 iso 400 to get 1/100th The glass just isn't good enough which is why i just don't get beyong f group. F stop!
  4. I don't know what colour or gender it was driving the white bakkie but it was definitely an @#$%$ who nearly knocked me on the second left hander at 40kmph going down constantia nek this morning.
  5. Off topic here but isn't it amazing how frequently punishments are being meted out for things that people say? I used to play local league cricket for many years as an adult and have said and have said much worse things. I was once told by a wicket keeper that he'd was going to do unspeakable things with my mother. I told him he should do it because my mother would teach him things that his mother clearly hadn't. Even his team mates laughed.
  6. Identity crisis this weekend - toiled up Spykers hill in the wind and didn't enjoy myself. Bombed down Trail Z and loved it --- toiled up to faircape and didn't have fun - bombed down trail q and loved it - halfway back up to the top of Faircape and not having much fun and resigning myself to not having any legs and deciding that I would take the tar downhill back to the carpark rather than tackle the big climb back to the top of hoogies, this thought popped in my head "if I had an ebike I would smash trail Q again" I tried to get rid of the thought - denial, a moment of weakness .... what does this say about me and my dedication to HTFU principles? Do ebikes belong on the mountain?
  7. Would have been my third one but alas ... last minute notice and SO pressure to stay in for a late breakfast smoothie .... oh well... next year.
  8. This event on 13 april this year. Is this correct?
  9. Hmmmmmmmm.... lie in and keep legs relatively fresh for sportif on sunday or sparrows drive to franschoek to ride this again and make the sportif a lazy dawdle.... These are the tough decisions
  10. Got my sticker ... gonna be first in the poo queue!!
  11. But when a slime tube does puncture --- what a mess... only thing worse than changing a tube on the side of the trail with sweaty fingers and blind as bat cos you're not wearing your close work spectacles is doing that when the slime tube has disgorged it's slime all over the rim and the tyre and your hands ..... Immediately go tubeless
  12. That's not sucking ... i am sure 4 hours puts you in the top 50 percent of 3A.
  13. This is interesting. I was also in 1D and I do think this is the case. The group hangs 2 or 3 people out front to do all the work and adjusts to their pace. Co-operation is virtually unheard of. Over the last three years I don't think I've ever been in a seeded bunch where there's been a cooperative turn taking established. When dropped, and smaller groups form then it's easier to establish an ethic of working together. On Sunday, 1D picked up the speed on the R44 when 2A came breezing through us and just as the incline kicked up and so this Mamil reached the top 30 seconds behind this suddenly energised bunch .... I can cycle 100k in less than 4 hours alone though --- promise
  14. Woke up before my alarm and decided to get an early start so missed the snarl up with the traffic thankfully. Started in 1D which is pure flattery. Was annoyed by the chaotic marshalling at the start and the weird way that people were being loaded into the chutes. Had my calf gouged by a 1C muppet who was carrying his bicycle through the crowded 1D chute to get to his batch which didn't improve my mood. Was grateful we made it out of the neutral zone without carnage. Narrow bricked street riding straight into the sun with invisible marshalls standing on the traffic circle and traffic islands. Some pretty dody riding in my batch - one oke with headphones - I swear I'll never complain again about the very pedantic PPA start marshals who scrutinise every safety pin on every number at their events. The ride itself was pleasant enough although I didn't get the sub 3 hour I was aiming for - 30 seconds too slow on the first big climb and that was it for me. Got caught by 2A, B and C which is probably closer to my actual ability and was able to keep up with them over Hels and across the line for 3.01 ... meh. I hope all the first time at a new venue bugs can be ironed out particularly with regard to safety. That "neutral" zone with large bunches of over eager mamils seems a disaster waiting to happen. Cyclosportif 1 next week - which I plan on riding even slower cos I'll ride far on Saturday too.
  15. I wish I had one of those ones that goes on the seatpost ... but I'll never get into $
  16. What do you mean both boards? I got one board only.
  17. There's a road race every weekend from now until the weekend before ctct in western cape.
  18. My handlebar plastic thing doesn't have holes for zip ties... bring your own drill
  19. I genuinely don't understand how pointing out that we have a responsibility to obey the law is interpreted as cyclist bashing.
  20. This is the point. And you can spot the dudes who you'll get it from right here on this thread. It won't stop me poinging out poor riad use to fellow cyclists. If you roll through a red robot i will try and catch you (50/50 chance) and ask you as I gasp for oxygen how we can expect motorists to obey the laws that protect us if we don't obey them ourselves. I don't drive a fortuner but only cos they too expensive for me. I'll do this not because I'm entitled or think I'm something special but because i believe we must hold one another accountable. If I do something stupid or dangerous on the bike I expect someone else to point it out to me and politely invite me to stop doing it.
  21. To be sure .... and face the barrage of abuse and aggression one routinely gets from fellow cyclists when politely pointing out that it's poor form to roll over the single file please signs on Chappies while chatting two abreast etcetera .... Look at the hostility OP's post elicits here about cyclist bashing and so on when all he's done is make a cogent and reasonable appeal to us to ride in single file up a dangerous road.
  22. I'm 1D .... further evidence of alcohol consumption at the seeding process. Just going to try hang on and have fun while sweating blood.
