  1. Agree on the venue sentiments. But George/knysna is great mtb country. Tell your provinces to pitch for SA's otherwise it will be at places like this. Its still better than flying around the country after different events. Now at least you can rent a car in Cape Town for 2 weeks
  2. The weekend after Argus is the SA mtb champs, also in Southern Cape, so you can ride roadchamps, and 2 days later MTB. Or spectate. Boland Tour, Giro, Argus, SA road, SA mtb, all in 2 weeks.
  3. Latrinus is the right person to ask. But I think the UCI categories, jun, elite, u23, ladies few days after Argus in Oudtshoorn, Southern Cape. Idea was to prevent a farce like this year with MTN and Neotel. Now they could have the pro conti riders here. And May sounds right for vets/schools. Wonder if there's a Giro?
  4. So i think it will be harder than Attakwas. imagine the feeling when you make the U turn in the kloof, and you look up.
  5. I had 4 castles between the last water point in the DC and the finish. It was a bit difficult pushing someone that weighs 95kg and holding a beer in the other hand. At my last epic there were 3 people left in the bar at 11pm. Myself, Greg Minnaar and Paul Valster (commentator). I recovered every day after passing out under a tree. The tents all look the same that time of the night. And our name for next years epic. CHILL ZONE CHAMPS! top 10 masters
  6. So whats he doing in Stellenbosch, or what happened to Bike Haven?
  7. so who knows the manager of the new medscheme team?? Hint... fightclub
  8. the 94.7 was won by a sub vet in age. whats wrong with the youngsters in Jhb? And why didnt the top riders like Robbie Hunter, Froome, Augestyn, Craven race....its like kissing your maid. ( so it was only the Jhb funriders that try and act like pro's and cant make it in Europe)
  9. Team chill zone champs, Dick and myself needs a kit sponsor for the Epic. At least we'll beat Roberto and Bruce R in the masters.
  10. OK i just googled Justin Berry. Try it. More than a bike mechanic.
  11. The name JUstin Berry rings a bell? If they have the best mechanic in town they could make it. But how much mechanic work does a triathlete need? And most of them go to the existing shops. Always difficult to get bike agencies as a start up as the importers wont leave the existing one. How many triathletes are out there? In stellenbosch. And surely the cost of a speedo and tekkies are minimal compared to bike stuff. So they should try and get another brand or 2. I think a boutique (more mtb) bike shop with the best meccie in town, friendly face behind counter could work. And stay open till 7pm in summer, and advertise it. Organise events from shop to Jonkershoek weekly, triathlons, X terra's, mtb races. Build up a community of supporters. I dont charge for consulting. Will pop in.
  12. Epic, Attakwas, Hel&Back,SA road, Wp road, Oudtshoorn 3 day. Maybe a few vets league events, Herald, the new Epic in Southern Cape next Oct!! Def not Argus, Burger, 99er
  13. Hmmm. R a few bar in debt and both of us estate agents. Not funny. Anyone for a house in Stellenbosch?? Groot Lem2008-11-19 09:08:35
  14. I dont think riders that cant race with the Jhb pro's must have a pro contract, and that goes for riders from anywhere in the country. Moolies, Garrett are full time working people, and they're very competitive against the elites. Garth and Chris jnr both very talented, pity they didnt stick it out in Jhb when they had the chance. The winner of the Tour de Boland, Mike Sowerby cant get a contract in Jhb, Craven was still without a ride last week.
  15. hmmm. so that they can steal more money?? hope not. by the way, whats cooking in cgc?? i hope someone at csa doesnt steal the monet this time...
  16. Who you dealing with at Omnico?
  17. Will the prize money be better than Cederberg? I thought mtb UCI races are classified as world cups? Thought 1.1. , 1.2, 2.2 are all road classifications
  18. I've never ever heard of this stuff, been cycling for 30 years, hangs around in shops, ride with buddies. In Stellenbosch.
  19. Make me the road commissioner (speke? resigned) and we have it in march. And I see on the proposed calender a 2 week Giro? And whats cooking with Tour of RSA? Bad rumours going
  20. Bike shops just used to survive no matter what, but this one seem a bit tough. But the big importers, who will survive? Or are they so rich it doesnt matter?
  21. I heard that because all CSA money were spend to send useless elites to worlds, theres no money left to send men to the all africa champs. So now Craven can go win for NAM
  22. Or wholesalers, with the credit crunch and the RAND!!! Will bikes be 30% more expensive than '08. And if no one (or few) can afford it, will your LBS stay in business?
  23. So i believe CGC clubs had a meeting with the exec, anything happened? Did u guys demand changes, stolen money back, fire people??
  24. Sorry I missed this discussion for about 2 days. David is a good politician. What he told Carinus about my handling of the race and his answer on the HUB are totally opposite statements. What more must I say, but I have nothing to apologise for.
  25. I'll have a beer with Balhare. The alsations was a famous moment in SA cycling. Imagine we had the HUB in those days.
