  1. Another question all together is whether he will have the guts to pitch, he will obviously open himself up for chirps.
  2. Due to the format of XCO I totally get that...it doesnt really allow for mass participation. Marathon and Enduro does. But as pointed out, the timing logistics makes it much less profitable to put on a Enduro event. I think a slowly slowly catching the monkey approach will work better. Get guys hooked on Enduro by putting up hybrid / mixed bag events. It won't costs the race organizers as much to do an event like this and I think the masses will be more inclined to participate knowing that one of the days are still dedicated to marathon.
  3. I suppose they had to put a peg in the ground...I wish all races took their view.
  4. ah ok, I see now, and yes I agree each discipline are lekker in their own right. I also just had a brainfart after omega's post, here it goes. Just a theory at the moment So johnny visvingers decides he wants to start mtb'ing after watching the epic / nissan / mtn race on tv or he went and supported his brother-in-law at a marathon event. Decided this looks like fun, I want to give it a go. So first off, the exposure that he got of mtb'ing as well as the family and friends are of the marathon scene. Already enduro is on the backfoot, he then saves up 8000 rand(he wants to see if mtb'ing is for him without breaking the bank) thinking that this will get him a bike and walks into lbs with friend. Now 8000 ito enduro bike and kit wont take him very far, so an entry level 29er hardtail is suggested as the best bang for his buck(and it is) considering He wants to ride with his friends Wants to participate in the event he saw His budget The shop then re-stocks with more 29ers cause they got sold, race organizers are smiling cause they have another guy buying entries to their events so they create more marathon races to keep up with demand And the wheels of the bus goes round and round.
  5. True dat...it is out culture...its by no accident that we have the biggest timed cycling and running event in the world We can *** off like a baws
  6. It will be cool, but I am honestly saying I havent seen a shift, if anything the marathon scene has just grown stronger(more races). Exposure as you have pointed out is the main culprit...Lets face it, it will be cheaper to put up a marathon race than an enduro type race and the organizers are in it for the money. Secondly as Omega pointed out, "their friends are doing it", don't underestimate this since I will also rather ride the cradle with a group of my mates, than an epic trail all by my lonesome. I love the social aspect of mtb'ing, so riding alone isn't an option for alot of people. They would rather participate with their friends in events or trails that they dont really like than all alone at the place they prefer.
  7. who are "they" distributors Race organizers retailers community
  8. Dig this...
  9. Yea, see I think the biggest thing with enduro type racing is the course will cost more to setup than a marathon(hence also the reason we see so many marathon races in SA), also there will be added costs ito timing systems for the segments. So if an event organizer can get enough numbers to participate it will cover the costs of this...something like king of the mtb. Day 1 : 80km marathon with kakload of climbing Day 2 : Enduro day Day 3 : Either Downhill / XCO / XCE
  10. Oh and to add, I would personally love to see a mixed bag event...Some Enduro, some marathon, maybe some XCE or downhill or XCO, where you can only choose 1 weapon for the weekend.
  11. If they did they shops would be full of stock...tyres / kit / bikes / accessories. SA is a marathon / stage race culture...is what it is. You just have to look at the numbers the mtn / nissan series pull nevermind the sani / berg and bush / epic / w2w. I reckon its probably close to a 90 - 10 split. The okes stock what will sell as will the distributors.
  12. Enduro don't have the numbers....simple. It really isn't the conspiracy you make it out to be.
  13. whahahaha cute, little baby 26 inch ikons...
  14. No probs bud, I have tried all of them...always come back to stan's.
  15. Yip exactly what happens...amonia based sealant "dissolves" the glue at a spot where there was a puncture exposing a cross section of the tyre.
  16. Eish like lubes, there are pro's and con's to all, and everyone has their favourite. Stans is still tops for me.
  17. Please do Stu....I see they wanted to communicate via pvt email channel...why though, shouldnt it be transparent.
  18. mmmmm if it was just training, I would say ride them into the ground Considering you have a stage race coming up...rather change
  19. yip delaminating prick the bubbles...sometimes they just go down again
  20. Why?....risk / reward....currently it is still worth risking it considering the consequence.
  21. Awesome guy, strong silent type...so you wont see him tweeting about his gorilla lungs supplement sponsor. He does his talking on the trails. Came 2nd at j2c with Catherine Williamson in 2013...but with zero support. They slummed it in the tents.
  22. No love lost between DG and local pro's https://twitter.com/JarrydHaley/status/511810942104260608
  23. Ex-doper...nothing more..nothing less. No respect from me.
  24. Boom the voice of reason. He did nothing ito eliminating PED's, his statements sounded more like a justification exercise. Munga...me thinks
