  16. sweet man, it is very satisfying being able to do your own maintenance, nevermind the money you save. There are loads of resources ito how-to. I would start with the most frequent things that need attention buying tools as you go. Get yourself a good set of hex and torx keys, shifting spanners and screwdrivers since they have multiple applications. First being able to remove a chain, cassette and chain rings properly - Chainwhip and lockring remover Set DR's for shifting Replace / Clean BB....parktool makes cool tools...hopefully you have a bsa BB, they are winners to work on Stans, spoke tape, tubeless valves and cores and compressor...for tubeless conversions Bleeding brakes, brake pads and inserting new brake pads....Bleed kit(syringes and mineral oil / dot brake fluid) Service hubs...rubber mallet, different socket sizes and wood in different shapes and sizes for drifts, bearings for your hub(try and write the codes down) This is basic bike maintenace and servicing...I wouldnt look into suspension servicing until you have the tools for the above since they are the most frequent items on your bike that needs attention.
  17. ah ok...shop around online, sure you can knock off a few bob here and there...there might then be shipping to deal with though. Easibike CWC Evobike Buycycle Rapide Chain reaction cycles Evans cycles
  18. keep a lookout for online specials...stock up on tyres / chains / sealant / rings when they are cheap. Basically consumables. Buying these from lbs will always come at a premium since they have overheads that the online guys dont have, however, they are convenient when you need something asap.
  19. Dont confuse a scorpion king with the very rare "up periscope / duikboot". Have never witnessed one myself but they are out there.
  20. ah, but if you stay cleated in and the wheel taps you on your helmet it scores even more points, I have only seen this done once....thing of beauty I tell you, ask chukky, he also witnessed it. Over to you jcmeyer, please give some insight and technique tips
  21. Got my triton 2.5 two years ago for 220 gorillas and had 13000km on the clock. Shop around. Sitting on 77000km now and still going like the clappers...Very happy with it eventhough it looks like a stormtrooper from the front.
  22. scorpion king....the ultimate trick you can do
  23. Yes there are a couple of enduro events but they are few and far between. Generally you need lots of steep gradients for enduro events with minimal pedal sections between the timed segments. Unfortunately SA just doesnt have alot of this terrain also its quite intimidating for someone starting out due to its technical nature. Example of a trail bike is something like a giant trance. The difference between a trail and a marathon dual sus bike is really the amount of travel on the bike. a Giant anthem(their marathon bike) comes with about 100mm travel whereas the trance has 140mm. Also trail bikes generally have 26 / 27.5 inch wheels and marathon bikes 29 inch. Again its a not a make or break thing, you can do events in either format on any bike really.
  24. Those are marathon events....generally a mixed bag of district road / jeep track / singletrack. Generally full suspension 100mm travel 29 er bikes are the weapon of choice for these events. However a hardtail 29er will do just fine if you are on a budget and will give you better bang for buck and less maintenance issues.
  25. Enduro is a competition format in which trail bikes are generally used...I can see the confusion.
