  1. Hi Christian, Thanks so much for your response on this thread, just to clarify - this is not at all an attack on Wahoo - it was more just a matter of interest to see how Garmin is able to drop their prices in SA on a similar pricing to the UK. I did notice that the price advertised on the official Garmin site is alot more than what retailers (that also sell Wahoo units) are currently selling them for: Edge 830 @ Sportsmans: R7999.90 Edge 830 @ Cycle Lab: R7999.99 Both these prices are sitting between 8-9% increase. Whereas the Wahoo Units will almost always be sold at the price stipulated on the website (which seems fair if I am being honest). Just wondering how these retailers are able to drop their prices so much with the Garmin Units versus the Wahoo units. Side note, I am a Wahoo fan boy - so I think I am going to go for the Roam anyways - will just wait for borders to open and a mate to come back from the UK, unless there is a special coming around
  2. Yeah higher price but can get the Wahoo for much cheaper in the UK, whereas Garmin price difference between SA and UK is negligable. Having a look at the other Brands at the moment. So many options!
  3. Will have a look at this, thanks!
  4. Fully agree, Not disputing the sole price variation between SA and UK as I do understand that they do not trade at the going FX rate, and there are import duties to cater for. My question was more around why the Wahoo computers are retailed at a MUCH higher markup (+/-25%) to it's Garmin counterparts (+/-10%) when comparing UK pricing to SA pricing. ie. the markup discrepancy across brands between respective countries. I think it may be due to the fact that Garmin has more of a presence in SA.
  5. I am in the market for a bike computer, I have been deliberating between the Garmin Edge 530 and the Wahoo Elemnt Roam for quite some time now. This is more of a question on Wahoo South Africa's pricing than opinions between which is better (I am however still open to suggestions!) In South Africa, the Edge 530 (*listed at R6000) is nearly R2000 cheaper than the Element Roam (listed at R7999), fine. When observing UK prices. the Garmin Edge comes in at R5499 (at a R21.15 - GBP exchange rate), making it an 8% price increase in SA to UK. The Element Roam is listed at R6345 in the UK (again, at a R21.15 - GBP exchange rate), making it a 21% more expensive on the SA shelves. The Bolt, listed at R5499 here in SA, is priced at R3912 in the UK (difference of 29%). Long story short, why does Wahoo have higher markup prices when comparing SA to UK than Garmin? Would it be because Garmin has a greater presence in the country and therefore able to turn more stock over? Just found it interesting more than a complaint. *Just wanted to note that prices were taken from official website listings - the Garmin unit however is listed at R6949 on their official website - but have only seen it listed at R6000 on most of the popular sites.
  6. What a load of cr*p, I for the life of me do not understand people saying "It's the new normal", "Everything will be different". Why? When Covid is done and dusted - why will we keep these stupid (but currently necessary) measures in place - this is an event that has shaken the world (understandably so), but like all things - it to will pass. There is absolutely no reason to change event formats when this is all said and done. I for one would love to return to mass participation events such as cycle challenge when there is no looming monster above our heads. Stop this fear mongering, the new normal should not be a thing - it will return to the old normal (for lack of a better phrase), or else we are digging ourselves into a ditch of fear. #poetry
  7. This. Murray at no stage said that he is going for this record or that record or to be quicker than SA pro runners. He simply said he is going for his PB. Each person's PB is tailored to themselves - my personal best on a local climb starts after a stop street whereas someone else's might begin when the gradient goes from 0% to 0.05%. If he wanted to go down in the record books and stated it before he began, then sure - organise the necessary arrangements to be legit. These twitter warriors are just knobs that can't appreciate a man that just wants to better himself. **Side note - if it is in fact seen as a legit SA record - then bonus for Murray! - take it up with the authorities that deemed it legit, don't tune the individuak k*k
  8. Where did you get this info from!? **EDIT - I happened to miss the above - Nevermind!
  9. You must be a whole lot of fun at a braai...
  10. Sooooo... When is Comrades going to chat to us lot?
  11. Been struggling to get up in the am with the potential cancellation/postponment of Comrades. Tempted to just jump back on the bike and enjoy my riding again!
  12. Hey guys, quick question re. Discovery Bank. Since I moved over to Discovery Bank, I have noticed we are no longer getting the Discovery Miles Multiplier (when you spend with partner stores such as BP and Pick 'n Pay). obviously the active rewards and banking rewards have replaced the 'Multiplier' programme. Does this mean that we no longer get more miles granted at the partner stores? Or will we just get more 'Base' miles if we go to BP as an example? Sorry if this is unclear
  13. What a brilliant race! Well organised and a perfect mix of technical terrain and fast single track/jeep track. Some of the jeep track was a bit overgrown which provided a few surprises, but other than that; it was great fun! Will definitely be back next year
  14. Apologies if this has been asked - are there any trails to run around Rosebank or Sandton area for training? getting bored of the road!
  15. Hi guys, apologies if this has already been addressed. I am looking for a way to download 'real life' routes to do on the Kickr. I would, for example, like to ride the Ironman SA 2019 (PE) course on my kickr - is there any way I can do this?
