  1. Duallie all the way bro. Upgraded from merida ht to my current love (26 Cannondale scalpel) and there is no way on this earth i will ever go back to ht again. I can lock both front and rear shock out on normal road and climbs but on the really steep rocky stuff the back shock (if active) actually helps with traction and avoids wheelspin. Re the maintenance, i had to replace bushes a while back on rear shock (R90) so no big issue, my biggest costs are drive train replacement due to normal wear and tear.
  2. plus im trying to nurse myself to health, flu bug is creaping up on me.... Corenza / Berocca and some ginger tea better fking get me ready for Saturday. I havnt done this race in 2 years and actually looking foward to it, barring the weather...
  3. Late entries still available on the day right?? So hows the trail holding out, i also had a K@k experience with some wet rides before and R1,800 repair bill afterwards and that was on my old bike, the new one will be a lot more moola.
  4. How is the trail holding out with the rains? Robertson getting as much rain as us okes here in the Cape Town / Durbanville?
  5. Meezo, that is extremely nice of you. I would never lend my bike to anyone (its my baby) so appreciate the gesture. We planning for 28th June (she arrives 21st but we planning to go shark cage diving on 22nd so 28th we targeting Contermans and Meerendal). I will check with her, maybe just keep it professional and book with iride. I wouldnt be able to look you in the face if we accidentally damage your bike. Daniel, will send you a mail, need to understand the pricing if i come collect (not sure where) for the trance. And, we will take good care of the bike
  6. S Shot dude!! Thanks a mill!
  7. Sorry, but dont know where else to post this. I have a female friend from Denmark coming over soon for a week and promised to show her the trails around Durbanville. Do anyone know where i can rent a mtb for the day? Nothing fancy but should have clip in pedals etc etc Does CWC perhaps rent out? PS. Shes is size small
  8. So?????????? how was it? i didnt even bother to get up this morn, was still raining early morning.
  9. What he said. Same issue with me, but once i spray the bolts (where it connects to seat) with Q20 it disappears. And believe me i checked everything beforehand....
  10. i did, the mtb thread died a long time ago and the roadies start at the high school. But there are many groups out riding on weekends, im looking for more than just one roadie option
  11. Guys and gals, i see many a bunch on my Saturday rides (sometimes easily 10+ people) and wondering where all the groups starting from (in case you ok with new people joining)? I knew abt a group starting at caltex in durbanville (cnr of Wellington / Plein) but they not pitching up or my timing is wrong. I mtb but ok with road as well.
  12. Its not always abt components. I switched from canondalen to an orbea (road bike) many yrs ago and basically stopped riding due to the orbea geometries not suiting my built. Different makes have slightly different geometries which can make a huge difference. Also stupid things eg can it take proper bottle cages can make a difference (GT bikes)
  13. Can you guys pks let me know where the regular groups start their weekend rides? i see lots of groups in and around Dyrbanville every weekend but dont know their start venue/time and normal distances
  14. T Are u doing GT? Myself and Rod will prob do one of the two, still undecided though..
  15. So anyone who had done both races in the past (i think new venue this yr for Gravel Travel so comments might be obsolete), which one would you suggest? Gravel Travel or Tru Cape? I havtn done either one, but keen for some nice riding that weekend
  16. Would anyone say this is a ride not to be missed? or should i skip it and rather donan training ride closer to home and not miss a lot? its quite a drive to get there.....
  17. Cant see from the pics what the meters climbing are? can someone maybe comment?
  18. They should send in more cows next yr, there was a whole couple of acres with thorns. Bless the stans in my wheels i didnt get a puncture, but i saw a LOT of ppl slogging away at repairing punctures (i even forgot my bombs and tools in the car). Nice little route and didnt struggle with markings, but then we were in the first 1/3 on the 40km so could follow ppl constantly. At one point i took a "short cut" on the side of the road to avoid the sand and shyte on me, both wheels were instantly covered in 100's of thorns, spent a good 2 minutes just picking them out and letting stans do its job. Sandy patches did get a bit much and somehow i got bored of the single track next to the river, i guess being 10th in line didnt make me enjoy it as much as i constantly had to watch that the guy in front of me didnt stop. And the flies at the end ruined it a bit for me.... but must say i expected more farm roads so was prepared for a faster race and the route was surprisingly different, def one i will do next yr again.
  19. Any rides planned for Sat?
  20. Vaalkol, riding same route this coming weekend?
  21. Vaalkol, riding same route this coming weekend?
  22. I finally figured out what the problem is (took me long enough)... Everyone gets the same starting time eg everyone doing 38km has start time of 8:30 irrespective of your group which is incorrect. Hope they will fix it. My time is out by exactly 20min
  23. The results seem a bit off, cant remember my exact time but def 10-20 min faster than whats on the website. Anyone ele having the same experience?
  24. Ok? hows the trail? muddy as hell or dry'ish?
