  1. I wish i normally have an energy drink, but actually, come to think of it, both times this happened so far, ive been on water...
  2. it helps a little but the 'internal' cold feeling remains. its difficult too explain but the cold sort feels like its in your bones, not the skin. i also checked my temperature and it showed normal eg no fever
  3. Thanks V12man, will take your advice, im starting to feel better today. Neither my heartrate or blood pressure was abnormal the last time and the doc also sttled on 'viral' infection with flu like symptoms. ill do the rest thing and let you know if it happens again. ps. the chills are still there but not nearly as bad and my apetite is slowly returning, yesterday morning i didnt even bother eating breakfast
  4. Would a compromised immune system not present higher white blood count? im a bean counter so wouldnt know.also, it cant keep hapeening everytime i do intervals how am i ever going to increase my form?
  5. Guys, i need help! Happened before and happening now again.. 3weeks ago my recovery ride turned a bit fast and i was sprinting at max hr and effort. Next day i started shivering and feeling real cold which carried on for almost a week.. did blood tests and found nada, no diabetes , no thyroid, not even increased white blood count. Did some slow easy rides inbetween and felt ok. Last night i did a spinning plus gym sessionand was doing intervals at max pace, and today the same thing... shivering and feeling cold anyone else experienced this before or have any ideas?
  6. im aso just looking for a basic long term training plan, taking into account i can only do 4 rides a week. Tues/Wed 2-3hrs night rides and sat long and sun 2-3hrs. what kind of intensity ect should i do on these rides to maximse my training?
  7. and Recycles on durban road, bellvil e side, they did the tech points during w2w, must admit i was impressed, at least the techies are cyclist themselves. im getting fed up with ppl working on my bike who has no riding experience. then i need to double check all the work they do.
  8. Im struggling with the same issue, also blood type a+ and currently weighing 105kg, down from 120 3yrs back but cannot seem to get below 100kg. actually gained weight on the recent wine 2whales and didnt even eat a lot . had my blood tested as well and no issues with insulin or thyriod ect. i can prop eat a little bit healthier but not a lot intresting posts though, im gonna give the cross training a bash and see how that goes...
  9. The 26er cannondale scalpel carbon has no pivots and linkages at the chainstay but only at the top where it connects to the rear shock. seems like a hybris duallie softail then. (my bicycle lingo cou d be wrong but i hope u get the point)
  10. Some poor spelling i think. its Burkina Faso but anyhow, they should have prepared betterfor this, full knowing that multiple flights are involved.

That was 1 lekka ride. 1st day i had a sense of humour failure in 40degrees hauling my bike up a mountain... but day 2 was really nice and day 3 i just felt strong. Was actually looking forward to a day 4 after we crossed the finish. I had no issues with tyres ect, Crossmark on the back and Monorail on the front. Some muddy sections and river crossings on day 3 but a quick re-lube and the water station did the trick. Weather predictions for the Race is actually very bearable. You should have an awesome time. The "Big Dipper" was a bit disappointing (i was expecting the ramp to almost cross most of the lake rather than riding along side it) but Boomslang and Pofadder was great! They create quite a hype for Pofadder, but i would def suggest you do it. Its really not that bad. Day 3 had a surprising lot of singletrack as well. Oh yes, the organisers deserve a mention, really well done! Accomodation , food, showers, drinks , massages, medics ect ect was really well done. Everyone very friendly and ready to assist. Ps, dont stand in the long queu for bike wash where they charge R50, rather go just next door where they pressure hose your bike for you and you can do a quick lube yourself. Theres also many techies around to solve any bike issues.
  12. Thanks V12, good tips re the holding back, i do tend to go balls to te wall and then cramp up later in a race. re the NSAIDS, what would you recommend in its place? i struggle with some knee pains and thought abt popping some ibuprofens along the way which then seems to be a no no.
  13. Im doing my 1st multi stage event in 2 weeks time at the wine 2 whales. Got my entry a week ago. Since this is my 1st multi stage event, what tips can the regulars give me? eg what did you learn from your 1st event that is perhaps not that obvious ect Any last minute crucial purchases? Any tips on the W2W itself? Any other practical stuff?
  14. Hope this works, trying to post the pic via a tablet
  15. My advice (i know it sounds crap) is to sell the brakes and get shimanos. i bought the elixir 5's a while back and then returned them to the bikeshop a day later because of constant rubbing and got slx's. same thing with my new bike, bought a cannondale which came with elixir R's and returned them to the bikeshop after couple of days as it had the same issue with rubbing, got some xt's and gladly paid the difference also heard a rumour that specialized will nit fit any elixirs on their 2013 range
  16. And apparently ( im still to test this theory) a 2 blade system has less (or no) chain suck vs 3 blade system. Chain suck normally happens in the small front blade but normal in big blade
  17. Awesome!! Thanks a lot! Cyclelab managed to get their number as well after email correspondence, seems they changed phone lines without updating their website. Lets hope for a speedy reply and repair....
  18. Long time ago when i was still a roadie, we did the argus route 1 week before the event. Up chappies, i lost the slip on the 3 top guys (im a sprinter ok, not a climber) and tried to catch them again on the way down. Cant remember which turn but its built like a hairpin, i was doing approx 38-42km/h and realised there was no way in hell that i was going to make the turn... In sheer panic, i pulled the back brake way to hard which of course brings the bike upright..... I bliksem'ed into the sidewalk and landed in a thorn bush on the edge of the drop off (the bush actually saved me from a nasty fall off the mountain). The doctor still had to surgically remove a thorn from my elbow 3 months later. My front wheel was a writeoff... Still did my sub 3 the next week though (gause patches and all) Lesson: Feather those brakes
  19. +2Came to such a point where my LBS told me to never f@cking touch my bike again unless i ride it. For any repair of any kind, they will do it rather than having to fix my mess. This was specifically true for the time where i tried to straight all my wheels, managed to screw it up every single time.
  20. Did a lekker night ride tonight and returning back tried to jump a pavement. Misjudged the jump by a mile and slammed the back wheel solidly on the edge of the pavement. Tyre burped and spew out some stans but miraculously stayed on the wheel, now i ended up with mother of a buckle (glad i dont have v-brakes anymore) with only myself to facepalm. Now back to my lbs tmwr to get this repaired and spend more money And of course it was all done in plain sight of my 3 riding buddies who almost fell of their bikes laughing DOH! So what stoopid ass thing did you do that either left you red faced or had to fork out some dough to repair?
  21. I need some help pls. My new cannondale came with FSA blades, spider and crank. Now my crank is making a terrible noise whe n i exert a lot of pressure eg standing and pedling. As per cyclelab its the "spider" (first time i hear this term) that has come loose. on a normal crank its apparently very easy to fix by only tightning some l-key bolts but the fsa system apparently does not work the same. basically cyclelab is not sure whether they need a special tool to tighten the crank or have to replace under warranty. has anyone perhaps had the same expeirence with fsa cranks and know whether such a tool exist? this not affecting the performance of the bike but just makes horrible noise when i need to up the pace
  22. i was going to do this race, but now after all the rains im rather doing some dry'er training rides, not in the mood for all the mud, chain suction and repairs afterwards. even bottelary hills has sentout an request for people to stay away from the trails this weekend..
  23. +1 on bike setup. rather fork out the little bit of cash and get it done professionally, it should make a difference. i changed from ht to dually approx 2 months ago and had by setup done before the bike rolled out the shop, no issues yet
  25. Ok, so except for the ups and downs, is it a exciting trail at least?
