Got my XT wheelset from CWC for R2900 3 weeks back , a very good deal (do yourself a favour and compare their price on CRC). This price excluded tires / disc (brakes) / and cluster.

I had 5 punctures in 4 training rides in a row with my kenda karmas (non-tubeless). Then i bought my xt wheelset (tubeless) with the monorail crossmark combo. No punctures yet after 6 rides . Plus the monorail has been pretty grippy on more than one occasion where im sure the karmas would have slided out from under me. I also cracked a rib abt 2 months back on the karmas due to them slipping out from under me on wet conditions. oh, and neither of my wheelsets are loosing any air. My XT wheelset have only been pumped once after purchase and holding pressure perfectly. CJVDM2010-06-08 15:28:12

It was the perfect evening ride. No wind , no rain. Pace was good. Chris was very generous with some free bike services to all the participants!! Thanks CWC for making this happen. The support vehicles certainly adds to the safety of the group.

Dont fit your racetec chip to the front wheel, rather strap it to your leg. Lost mine on the 2nd race. Probably too much tension on the chip mount during the downhills.

Whats the benefit of full finger gloves, protection against the cold?

Ive heard that CWC is again bringing in a XT Wheelset (tubeless) at below CRC prices... Ive got the Mavic 317D wheels with SLX hubs at the moment (non tubeless). The XT wheels will at least be 400grams lighter. Is it worth it to spend R2900 for wheels + cluster + rotors + new tubeless tyres on this new wheelset? Will i see a definite result eg easier ride / faster times with the new wheelset?

A chain replacement (SLX) should be approx R200. (I did mine last week ate CWC). Then be careful that the cluster wasnt damaged by worn chain, another R580 from CWC for new cassette.

James, wanted to reply to your post for ride to Majik today but the weather was just to unpredictable. Cant do monday either as im off to Angola for a week long business trip. I would suggest you do Majik (free), then cut across to Hillcrest (R25 permit) and then back via Majik (Poplars entrance). I did Hillcrest for the 1st time past friday and was really pleasantly surprised. The hills are challenging If you still looking for partners to ride with in 2 weeks, id be happy. My current riding partner is eratic at best with availability. Im not in top shape but getting there...

My LBS also frowned when i asked them today. But then why market the cassette with 4/5 fixed gears bla bla I think it would make a lot of sense to buy the gears seperately, theres abt 2 gears i use a LOT and +- 2 i never even touch. In the long run one could save money this way, but propably not what the manufacturer wants... If i had changed my chain earlier, would that have spared my cassette? Eg idially how many chains should a cassete take in its lifetime if properly cared and duly replaced?

Just replace my chain (SLX) after 2500 km's and found this evening that the chain is slipping on my 2 favourite gears on the cassette. CWC warned me that this could happen in which case i should replace my cassette as well. Question: 1. Should a chain not last longer than 2500 km's? 2. I have the SLX cassette, should i replace - a - with SLX cassette for R580 - b - with XT cassette for R650 (is this better quality worth the R70 difference)? - c - with XTR cassette for R1450 (only reason i would perhaps choose this option is that it seems that SLX / XT cassette is one unit only while XTR can be split up and suppose i can replace each individual gear seperately if it wears out) is this correct??? Comments?

Hi Hubbers, I intend to do a nice social ride coming saturday somewhere in Western Cape but cant make up my mind 1. Welvanpas - perhaps too short (only 12km) 2. Jonkershoek - is this ok to ride now, i heard some rumours about a fire and damage to the route? 3. Oakdale - Will this be closed due to Cape Epic? 4. Lebanon - Will this be closed due to Cape Epic? 5. Eselsfontein - A bit of travel to get there (Ceres). Is it worth it? 6. Tokai - dont know the routes at all Ive never been to any of these tracks. Can anyone help with ratings eg best to worst? Maps / profiles / comments ect? Any other routes you scheme is better?

Ive got the same question... What abt top of Constantia Neck to Table Mountain top? What abt Rhodes Memorial? What abt Silvermine? Are these MTB ridable paths?? There are signposts which indicates MTB.
