  1. Sorry to burst your bubble Owen but it isn?t the winners that "make" the race....<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> It is the masses coming in after the top riders that make the race viable/profitable and the masses really don?t care who won and who got how much in price money. They just interested in the how much is the entry fee, is there road closure and is the goodie bag nice?? Ox_Wagon2009-10-20 00:28:09
  2. If it has 28"/700c wheels on it is a hybrid or 29er. A number of companies make Cyclo cross (MTB type) tires that should work on a hybrid. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Theoretically 29er tires should fit. You will have to check what the maximum width that your fork/frame can accommodate. If your bike use rim brakes resizing will be difficult as you would have to find a way for them to line up with the new rim. Here are some options: http://www.bikebay.co.za/Products/ProductProfile.aspx?ProdGuid=c4ffc4a5-c413-4d3f-bcc7-c13302964c4c&ReturnUrl=ListParts.aspx http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/category.aspx?categoryID=206# http://www.maxxis.com/Bicycle/Cyclocross.aspx http://www.kendausa.com/bicycle/road.html http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/bicycle/themes/cross/crossquerfeldein/clinchercyclocross_en.html
  3. Dude you know you have to be older than 18 to join the Forum
  4. And just to complicate things?..<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Canaan (Red) that I test rode at the ?Try before you buy? did not have a gusset or reinforcing plate. The 2010 Canaan on Mongoose?s website also does no have the gusset. For that matter I have not seen an International Canaan with a gusset. So maybe the gusset is only for ZA ?Super? light weight riders.
  5. Sounds good, what race is that (info)?
  6. Yip, it is cycling tax! <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> In the same way that we will have to start paying Health tax..... Money for nothing! But the really shocking news to me is that the kapies still have MTB races that cost less than R100!
  7. Yip that should be big seller ZA...
  8. They are taking entries at number collection. Me thinks the number of entries are way down. I wonder why?
  9. I agree with Popeye, irrespective of the thickness of the wheel we are all branded if certain individuals break the law. From million similar previous threads we know the law states that cyclists MUST ride single file on the road and need to obey all the road rules like stopping at robots etc??.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> That said, the simple fact is that you will NEVER win a fight with a car irrespective of how self righteous you feel! . You will be just as dead. The same applies for motorcycles, were they have speed, lights and a bit more weight in there favor. You need to ride defensively and assume the car drivers don?t see you and if they do they are out to get you . The sad truth is that during our typical early morning Saturday/Sunday rides we "typical" share the road with the sloshed sleep deprived drivers going home from all night party. They "tend" not be to concerned about cyclist perceived rights and assumed privileges. PS: I ride Road and MTB.
  10. Says the guy that has "UPGRADED" from a S-works to a Merida!
  11. You forgot to mention that it has to be 200m down hill, through narrow and twisty roads, with the French riders given a 100m head start.
  12. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Wow, what a non-boring day . You could see by the way the riders were chatting with each other /hugging /showing of their tattoos that the GC "Autobus" was in serious racing mode. I wonder what will happen today ??.. Maybe a small breakaway with a Skill Shimano/ Cofidis/ Fracios/ Katushca/ Agritubal riders in them with the GC ?Autobus? keeping the time gap down. The breakaway may be caught if the sprinter teams feel like it . Repeat for the next couple of days.....
  13. The Anthem X "just" won the "Bike of the year" comp of one of the British MTB mags. Go check it out in CNA. They also rave about the Trance X. Some of the mags talk about 120mm travel being the new 100mm travel?.. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have to agree with Crow, the Morewood Marathon looks sweet. It's currently at the top of my Droooooool list. The Giant frames are just below it. Ox_Wagon2009-07-15 01:58:04
  14. Have to say it is rather boring, but that is the route fault. There is no incentive for the GC guys to ?Race? if it isn?t a mountain top finish so they ?just? keep the breakaway in check. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> You basically only have to watch the last 5km to see if the break away made it. I ended up watching Discovery/BBC Knowledge etc on Sunday. If next year has the same type of route I will only switch on DSTV for the last two days.
  15. Bigben the CNA at the lake has some.
  16. If you think about it you will find that racing is discriminatory.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> If you start with male/female/age group prize why not have prices for Clydesdales (equal prices for different weight categories) and riders that unfortunately did not have the right parents (genetics) and don?t forget the guy/girl having to ride a plumbers job because he can?t afford anything lighter.....
  17. I am against any form of discrimination. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Therefore only on set of price money is required for the fastest People in the race.
  18. I see the entry fee has also been jacked up to R265.
  19. Man that IS SCARY! I just updated the pic a bit to make it current.....
  20. It is so light, you can't see it....
  21. The steel in the housing is there to stop the housing from compressing. From Sheldown brown's website: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_ca-g.html#cable Housing The outer sleeve through which a brake or gear cable is pulled. The housing transmits an equal push to counter the pull on the inner cable. Traditional housing consists of a tight spiral of steel wire, usually coated with plastic. Newer versions have synthetic liners to reduce friction. This type of housing is still used for brake cables. See also Bowden cable. With the advent of index shifting, greater precision was required, particularly for handlebar-mounted shift controls. For this application, "compressionless" housing is now used. This differs from traditional housing in that the wire part consists of a bundle of parallel wires, running more-or-less parallel to the cable. This reduces the tendency of the housing to change effective length when it flexes as the handlebars turn. This type of housing should not be used for brake cables, as it is likely to rupture under the higher loads involved in braking.
