A seconed that. Get a multi tool with one and have some one show you how to use it. I ride with slime tubes AND tire liners.
  2. I assume we excluding the Octalink BB.

Sorry but you blowing against the wind. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The tube did fit in the rim. So it is not the wrong tube. I personally prefer them on all my bikes. Yes, they could have been more attentive. The fact that you did not know how to swap the head of your pump is not your LBS?s problem. So let it go and chalk it up as experience. I am constantly learning new thing about bikes and sometimes it unfortunately cost me money and time. There is a great saying ?You?ve got the right to be a sucker once? PS: The easiest way to get the rubber thingy out is to unscrew cap and then to flip the locking lever, this pushes the rubber out. Sorted. Ox_Wagon2008-11-02 09:27:19
  5. Thanks, will try it.
  6. On the subject, how do you pull a crank of a hollow Octalink crank? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> My ancient crank puller has nothing to push against. Special tool required maybe? Or a rubber hammer! As the old saying goes " If the only tool you have is a hammer, all problems looks like nails!"
  7. Cool Price on the LX Shifter/brake combo?
  8. That is why you never buy integrated levers!<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> A long time ago (early 90s) there was adapters available but I have not seen any of those in a long time. So the short answer is to sell the integrated levers and replace them with shifter pods. The long answer is that, if you can dismantle them you should be able to have brackets made but it would most probably be more expensive.
  9. Nothing goes with that Yeti turquoise. It's like that pastel green they use on Bianchi's. Frikkin heck DB' date=' you'll have Beeyaanchee owners all over RSA spitting all over their keyboards ........ Selest boet [/quote'] I thought it is called ?Pee Green??
  10. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Check the helmet hair!
  11. Will try it once but it is to expensive and on the wrong side of the Boerewors curtain to do it more often.
  12. I must say that I stopped spinning at <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Centurion VA gym, which has great instructors(real cyclists), when they moved to the ?new? Gym which has an inadequate HVAC system. No amount of complaining has been able to fix it. I personally think it is a health risk doing spinning in that sauna that they call a spin class and would not be surprised if they contravening a bunch of OHS act requirements. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> So now I commute to work instead. 13. was thinking of a combined effort to try reach 3:30, but you're starting WAY ahead of me Just wave as you come flying past.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> PS: Thanks for playing postmanperson!
  14. I have seen about 30% rise in price of new stock at some of the LBS and heard warnings that tires will go up by 60%. Ox_Wagon2008-10-23 23:18:04
  15. Seen all three at the local Cyclelab (Centurion) not sure if they are UST.
  16. Hoping for sub 3:30 but the training hasn't gone well this year so anyting around 3:45 would realistic .
  17. never keeping you lot informed again! Have you read Terry Prachett? ?The Truth? ? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Your like it. Ox_Wagon2008-10-23 01:21:09
  18. Olds then. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> All news are olds anyway as there is nothing new in news. Don't tell HR! I had a fright when I mis-read the caption the first time ?Bumpy ride for Specialized? Ox_Wagon2008-10-23 01:02:19
  19. Shimano employs more engineers than any other profession in the company - they say' date=' but on the day that the Octalink was conceived, all the engineers were designing fishing reels. [/quote'] It is a good one that I need to remember!Ox_Wagon2008-10-20 08:38:56
  20. Jip' date=' no GRANNY is going to ride it...[/quote'] I am having difficulties removing the crank of the Mongoose (don?t ask) and I simply had to rid the bike so the only crank that I had lying around was the Mongooses?s old non-compact (non-?frilly pink shirt) XT crank. Unfortunately the granny interfered with the swing arm so I had to remove it. The middle chain ring is a 38 so definitively no for an overweight climber like my self.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> MW, remember it is a very entry level 5 year old bike. It as a coil Fox float rear shock without any platform damping and the Marzzochi fork is a plain OEM coil fork without any damping magic . I have not weighed because I am to scared it will weigh more than my steel frame Mongoose harttail. Ox_Wagon2008-10-20 05:48:39
  21. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Difficult to say as it is a part bin special. I paid R2000 for the bike with 8 speed on it but have to add that the chain stay has had weld repair done to it(so it is just a mater of time before it will crack again) and that the Mavic rims are on their way out (stress deformation around the nipples). Must be because they do not have serial number on them, so must be pirated! The bearings and bushings were R100. The chain and stem is of my old road bike. The handle bar is of a hybrid I build a long time ago, most of the other stuff comes from my Mongoose. The shifters and RD I got on the hub. The cassette, grips, cables and cheapy brake levers are new. So let say around R3000.
  22. Here is some idea?s for home made tensioners: http://www.geocities.com/mtnwuff/SStens.html I serious considering building one and is hoping Kiwi will get in some of On one?s conversion goodies. Some more sites: http://www.mtbr.com/ssfaqcrx.aspx Ox_Wagon2008-10-20 04:40:03
  23. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I finally finished the replacement off my 16 year old Mongoose. I got the bike a few months ago but discovered the joys of owning an old multi pivot full suspension frame when I serviced it. I had to replace some of the bushings and, as usual, none was available in ZA. With pointers from hubbers I was able to get the bearings locally and also bushings that could be modified to fit. I also took the opportunity to change the groupset, again thanks to the hubbers that help me find the missing peaces. The chainstay is a bit dodgy but hopefully it will last long enough for me to decide if I want to spend more on a better full suspension frame. PS: The Anoraks among you may spot the ancient component that I temporary installed.
