  1. why do you say that? He simplified the problem by rigidly attaching the spoke to the rim to make his analysis easier. This makes it possible for the spoke to transfer compression force to the rim. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> In reality a spoke can only be in tension due to the way the spoke connects to the rim. The moment the deflection is so much that the spoke looses tension the nipple will lift of the rim.
  2. As long as it is not Wikipedia as it refers to a finite element analysis that is using incorrect boundary condition.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> http://www.astounding.org.uk/ian/wheel/index.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoke
  3. Not Mavic! Did it have a serial number? It is very important, otherwise the police will come and confiscate it.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Ox_Wagon2008-12-10 09:00:02
  4. The R-sys spoke is only designed for compression on side loading but I agree with you that it is most probably a marketing gimmick as the drive side spokes are still normal spokes.
  5. O no not again..... The short off it is that if you do not own a Mavic R-SYS wheelset it is imposable for spokes to be in compression and therefore there is no "standing" involved. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  6. That is why I bought a 2 leg puller. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have removed a 4 arm with a 3 leg puller and also removed it again with the two legged one. Yes, it is a bit of a finicky exercise but at least I could re-use the crank and the BB. Westdene Cycles as also removed a 5 arm crank for me a couple of years ago with out to much hassle (while I waited) but I do not no what they used. The moral of the story is by the best crank puller that you can afford.
  7. The handeling fee is on top of that.
  8. I paid R50 for a not so great quality one at Autozone. Midas also stock them. Better quality ones are around the R100-R200 range.
  9. Bearing puller does the trick.
  10. After visiting one of the local LBS I strongly feel the government should force LBS to have a large warning posted at the front door along the lines off:<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> ?Prices displayed in this shop may cause hart failure and/or hysterical laughing that may be damaging to your health? Examples: Stans conversion kit : R930 Swalbe Racing Ralphs UST: R950, Who in is right mind pays a R1000 for a tire. 12? <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Raleigh kids bicycle: R1600 Hysterical laughing, strugging to breath....Arhgggggg I think I should start looking for a cheaper hobby, like restoring classic cars etc
  11. Went to my LBS looked around, wanted to touch, wanted to pick up, wanted to buy but no they did not have what I was looking for.........
  12. Good thing there is no bicycle part in the basket that the government uses to work out inflation otherwise we would have a prime rate of close to 30% <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have been phoning around for a plain steel Deore chainrings. Most of the LBS asked about double the price that you could get them for 6 months ago and one of the ?Cheaper? shops actually quoted R1000 for a R120 chainring. They must be smoking something. Bunch of 's Do the shops/inporters reliese that we do cycling for a hobby and that we really do not need to buy anything that they sell.
  13. Did you see the price of a Stan?s conversion kit in the latest Bicycling? R950, I hope it is a typo. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  14. A friend was looking to replace is old road bike (Dale with 9sp Ultegra) so we had a looked at some 2009 Scott. Guess what a carbon framed bike with entry level shimano wheels and Tiagra cost? How about R20 000! Needless to say he just smiled and decided to keep on riding his old bike. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> We will have to see what will happen to the bicycle industry that decided to adopted the car industry version of economize that goes something along the line off ? The less money people have to spend the more our product should cost? I heard a rumor that a certain very popular MTB tire is now selling for more than R800 a tire. That is plain ridicules. 's
  15. Cool bike. So do you have a pirate outfit to go with the "Black Pearl"?
  16. Hit him with your cycling shoe!

  18. Must say it is rather eritating if you hold something for someone and they then change their minds.
  19. Cool event, injoyed it. I defnitifly need to work on my technical riding.
  20. Looks like the only way to go then or I should try my luck with CRC Flood sale.
  21. OK, anybody now were to find a cheapy tensioner or do I have to make one.
  22. Any good buys?
  23. Sorry, that is illegal as the UCI has band skin suites.
  24. 1) The strap must be tight enough.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> 2) Wet the strap(electrodes) before you start. 3) I found that it will some times not pick up at the start of the ride until you start sweating, especially in winter and if you hit a down hill. It is usually not a problem after the first 5 minutes. Polar?s service in GP is exceptional, simply the best after sale service I have experienced. I got a busted up (casing in two pieces) speed sensor from a friend. They had a look at it told me the are some water damage on the PC board, that I could not see, and build it in a new casing for R110.
