  1. might have to put the One Tonner on a list for next year...route seems challenging but good...
  2. Was riding around Bainsklooof a week ago...the surfaces are bumpy and go off camber easily enough....a word of advice be careful of your racing line...not too sure from the maps which direction Bains will be tackled from but if from the Worcester side it becomes a hard grind but descending on to this side has technical depending...mange your speed....ps great views as well..be careful here... On an up note...if you hit the top towards the village from Wellington its a pure joy...cycling bliss..the descent down is manageable(if you are going this direction)...fast but again bumpy in places...don't be a hero as they say.. anyone riding on sunday...ride safely and have fun... might see on the road...might be spectating..
  3. 2 units or 2 litres...thats a lot if so...lets say nearly 4 units equals 2 litres..normally his HB will about 12-14..still will be ok...humans replenish...but will be tired and sluggish...
  4. I did the Heaven and Hills mtb on Saturday and it was a good fun event.Normally you would find me on road bike but I enjoyed it immensely.. I did the event on my older hardtail and it was very manageable and the tricky parts were rideable...ok the hills could have treated my legs better.. The event was friendly and well organised and I even rode home afterwards.. a nice days riding...will be back next year i hope..
  5. get a long endurance base...in all weathers and and cycle into the evening to try and replicate changes in temp etc...use a hr monitor...as for intervals...get a good base first..and start with intervals on the flat and then progress to the hills...
  6. When you saw MVDP towing the the chase behind him....you has that feeling he could take it...amazing pace...pure belief...
  7. only a quick trip this time..did the 30kms a few years back..well i didn't really have a clue what to expect...and its an event that bites in its own little way....next year...
  8. did the 30km a few years ago.(first real african mtb event)...was considering it again for this year but will be away... but...its tough and but if you like climbing and have the skills its a great morning out...next year i will give it a go again...
  9. saw and heard a few as they passed me...at least 2..
  10. that makes a bit of sense...lost 20mins over last year...despite the wind etc...so i can tell my long suffering wife that i really haven't got slower or older....phew...relief for a cyclist...
  11. Well what a day...the wind...not as bad as i expected it to be...the first few hours as I headed towards Millers Point and Smitswinkel was a grind and i noted few riders really wanted to work together. Being honest it was nice to get to the hills because it levelled out the riding standards a bit because up to then, it was a bit frantic and some of the passing moves were bordering on the bullish and lack of consideration, and this was not helpful to finding a good riding rhythm. The section after Cape Point was in my opinion was hectic and spotted a few incidents up there as people lost control due to speed I think. The following sections were fine but Misty Cliffs was sublime and the sea was a stunning sight. Chapmans went well and lucky I had the legs to pass a few groups but Suikerbossie was a small bit evil but manageable. Its actually more evil than a little bit... The roll back to the stadium was fun...had a small laugh when a aggressive group tangled themselves up..no injuries noted glad to say... But the day was more than about us.I am sure we have suffering partners who helped us ride around Cape town. Thanks to them... And we got home safely...others sadly didn't. There were little things about the day that made it special. The tandem army...plenty out and most were smiling.. Will I be back next year? maybe ...its easier to say yes isn't it ? now time for a beer...
  12. i have done it this way before...no problems picking up the timing matt..
  13. Easy registration this am...no queues at al...the expo itself for the few years has been a bit hit and miss... but good to see local produced cycle clothing etc..but really feel that more bike brands should be there...I would live to see more bikes there.... anyone for race nutrition? too much of the stuff...but something for everyone..will try "Namedsport" Superfoods for the "windy " Sunday... I hope this wind might not be bad otherwise my climbing legs will fall off... it was only a quick run around the EXPO...i properly missed plenty... most reliable forecast for Sunday?
