  1. I'd settle for just getting a gorgeous young woman...
  2. The charity groups only start between 8 and 8:30 normally. Unless you are doing the Double Loop in which case you get to start at 6.
  3. Especially as the hills get steeper. Then the mechanical advantage you get from a bike gets cancelled out by the extra weight of it.
  4. I think he's dead
  5. I reckon about 100kg or so. Me and my bike in birthday suits about 93kg. Then add all the clothes, shoes, drinks, food, protective gear and toolkit and I reckon it'll be pretty close to a nice round 100kg. Bit less on my XC bike and a bit more on the Enduro bike (usually a lot more protective gear too)
  6. Couple of big weeks for me: 9 - 15 Sep: Time: 11:50 TSS: 705 16 - 22 Sep: Time: 16:14 TSS: 910 23 - 29 Sep: Time: 8:30 TSS: 619
  7. It's tough but someone has got to do it
  8. I find the accuracy depends on how long I set the minimum time period to for the FTP estimate on intervals.icu. At 5 minutes it over-estimates by almost 20w compared to the 20 minute test. If I change the minimum to 8 minutes the estimate comes down to within 5w.
  9. Saw the announcement for Kerbal Space Program 2 so I dusted off my copy of the first one again. What an awesome game Played it until like midnight last night and then had to get up at 5:30 for a Pilates class
  10. Nope, got lucky (again) and only got charged VAT and no duties Saved a good few grand that I immediately dumped into a XT 12-speed upgrade kit for the bike. (Only to find that I need a new crank, chainring and derailleur hanger as well )
  11. Canyon Strive. In the climb setting it has the same head and seat tube angles as a Scott Spark (give or take) with a bit more travel (160mm front and 135mm rear). In the descend setting it lowers the head tube angle by about 1.5° and you have 160mm front and 150mm rear travel. And you can change the settings while riding. Hit the climb button and unweight the rear for climb mode; hit the descend button and pump the suspension for descend model. Win win. (Plus mine is red so its faster)
  12. Depends on the BB and hub I guess. I have a DT Swiss rear hub so I only had to get the microspline freehub. And going from a m8000 to m8100 I didn't need to replace the BB either.
  13. Not as far as I know. I think all the m8100 chainrings are direct mount.
  14. The Shimano 12 speed chain will not work with an 11 speed chainring (also Shimano but m8000). I know this from personal experience because I have the 12 speed upgrade kit sitting at home that I cannot use until my new chainring arrives. Also, as a side note, getting the rear derailleur to work with a direct mount hanger is also a bit of a pain in the ass and requires a bit of a bodge job.
  15. SNAP!!!! I just bought that exact same bike. Arrived here about 2 weeks ago Haven't had much chance to ride it though unfortunately because I was doing a bike tour through the Klein Karoo on my other MTB for the last week.
  16. acesports.co.za also have a pretty good selection of Leatt gear.
  17. I would suggest this as well. North of the Pick 'n Pay is pretty boring. Much more exciting jump and berm lines further south
  18. Entered
  19. You have to have done sub-3:30 last year and sign up for a charity that is doing the double loop. If you didn't do the race last year I'm sure they would let you do it if your seeding was good enough.
  20. Last year I managed a double loop of Suikerbossie in just over 5 hours and a 94.7 time of 2:51. (My first lap of Suikerbossie was about 2:20 then I stopped for a snack and did around 2:35 for the second). So I reckon sub 2:30 on Suikerbossie should do you for a sub 3 on 94.7 although that will depend on if you manage to find a nice group on the M1.
  21. There were a few charity batches last year. Stating times were 8 - 8:30. I think the last group goes off a bit later. I finished at 9:30 last year and the final group had not started yet.
  22. Still like 2 and a half months... (I've done it on 2 weeks training before and it was fine (obviously not great for the last 20km or so though))
  23. Hi guys, quick question regarding tyres for my XC bike. So I've got 2x Maxxis Forekasters 2.35, 1x Maxxis Ardent 2.25 and 1x Maxxis DHR II 2.4. I'm currently running the DHR II on the front and a Forekaster on the back which was lekker for the enduro I did last weekend but was really hard work for all the actual XC riding that I've done so I'm looking to change it up a bit. and I want your views on my other options. Namely: Forekaster F & R Forekaster F & Ardent R Ardent F & Forekaster R Which of the above options would you recommend?
  24. Maybe just in time for christmas?
  25. On road bikes (which I will grant you are a bit lighter and have less rolling resistance) the smallest gear up front will be a 34 but that's paired with a 25, 28 or 30 at the back. I'd say go for the 36. Even in 36-36 you'll have an easier gear than just about everyone who is on a road bike (although you do have the disadvantages I've mentioned above)
