  3. I got a good price on a 2013 Scott Speedster new, R9500 or can see online the merida race lite 901 doesn't look to bad. Any advice? I'm 1.94 and the guys says a xl will suffice?
  4. Just bought the lady in my life an Epic Expert 29r. She is 1.63 and rides a small. What handlebar widths do people out there ride. She has a Syntace Duraflite 640mm/8deg on her Scott Scale and it seems ok. The handlebar on the Epic is a 700mm. Do we go up to 700 or go down to the 640? Your input is appreciated. Just add your riding style, height, handlebar width and back sweep on your comments so I could make an educated guess.

  6. I have a scott 910 that now comes with a 2 blade front set up,after riding 3 blade on my expert I find it quite hard to adapt. Any simular stories--.I feel the ratio drop between big blade and small blade is very big and that the climbing gear is just to hard compared with the old donkey gear. Im a small rider, Shimano gearing
  7. Hi Just a question: I'm keen on upgrading my old MTB 26" to a 2012/2013 Scott Spark 29er. Can I swop wheels between 27.5 and 29er for different trails/ rides?? Your input / advice will be appreciated! Thanks

  9. Hey guys, ok so i have been bike shopping/ looking and need a little advise as i just cant seem to find much information locally apart from what the bike stores are telling me. i trust my LBS implicitly but need to do some checking as their opinion and advice may be slanted by the possible 40k bike sale. so my questions are, i know Rocky Mountain have a decent enough name overseas but i haven't seen very many here in SA. what are you opinions of them as a brand and are the bikes decent compared to the likes of Scott, Santa Cruz, Giant etc. does anyone know what the local support on the bikes is like, i know there are agents and components i can pretty much get from any LBS and am sure my LBS will do a warranty claim etc against shimano/ SRAM etc etc locally in the event of failure, but what about the frame and support thereof? for the price of 40k what would the other options be, initially i looked at the 2014 Scott genius LT, 170mm travel seems a bit much but i ride 160 now and am fine so don't suppose its going to be that different, the Altitude is 150 rear so i may need to get used to that as well. i really like the ride 9 feature that allows you to change the geometry and suspension to your riding style in more ways than i could have ever imagined but it may be too much and its a feature i am sure i could live without, do you think for an average non professional, i fall off ***, rider its too much choice? i see they have moved away from bearings on the rear linkage to bushings, i am not an engineer but surely they are going to need more maintenance than a bearing due to friction on the bushing causing wear? as i say just looking for some opinions and advice as for me 40k on a bike is more than i ever thought i would spend and its a hell of an investment( not from any other perspective than investing in my passion and enjoyment) thanks.

  11. Hardly the type of bikes one should put next toe each other. Trying to get my head around which hardtail to buy and what budget would be enough. I want to spend around R30k for that I would like a carbon hardtail. I will take the standard wheel with the idea to upgrade later on. From what I've seen, it is much of a muchness when in comes to a hardtail, yes geometry is very important, but at this stage I am not convinced that a R50k hardtail will ride easier that a R30k from the same manufacturer. Momsen is quite good value for money and it is local, something like the 729, Silverback Storm is also good value for money, not sure if it is still the flavour of the month and the you have the Stumpy, which for some odd reason just do not look as nice/aggresive as other hardtails. One could off course also go the Rocky Mountain/Giant route. Any suggestion, or should I rather save up for something like the Spez Epic or Scott full sus. This is mainly for cross country/marathon type riding.
  12. Hi guys, I am on the hunt for a new MTB bike. My Merida Matts is seriously long in the tooth and needs to be retired to doing less of this: and more things like this: I know a bit about bikes but to be honest, the world of MTB is confusing to me. Airshock, Rock Shok, Manitou, RP23, Scott Spark, Scott Scale, Giant Anthem, Giant Trance, Merida, Santa Cruz, All Mountain, Cross Country blah blah etc. So here's what I do know: RIDING STYLE - mostly 20 to 50k's, with the odd 80km distance thrown in. Multi-day racing MAY happen but not often. Mostly it's a Saturday morning ride. I ride the Braamfontein Spruit, Northern Farms, Single Track where possible. Enjoy doing small jumps and riding tricky lines over roots and rocks, up steep hills with a sharp turn at the top etc. I do race, but not to win - I race to enjoy pushing myself. And it's not often either. BUDGET - Whilst I don't have a 100% fixed budget, I don't want to go much beyond R10K and preferably more like R8000. If I find the absolutely perfect bike at R12K, I will find the money. But R25K is not possible. BIKE WHEEL SIZE - As I see it, a 26" bike offers so much better value in the price range I am working in. I am 38 years old and so a full suspension makes sense to me. Might be nice to get a bike that COULD be converted to 650B later. For the guys who understand what's what, can anyone suggest a few bikes to look out for? What are the great bikes from the last 3 years or so that might be worth looking out for. Eg it seems the Giant Trance range is considered a good option. There are just so many bikes and I don't have time to drive all over Gauteng test riding them all, so if I could just shorten the list to a few bikes, that would really help me out. Appreciate your input! Cheers
  13. Hi guys. I'm busy looking for a headset for my father's R2 but I'm not sure what to get. It has a ritchey headset in now but not sure which model. Does anyone know? And what alternatives are available that will fit? Thanks
  14. Hi Hubers I have been researching a new road bike for several weeks at the 18 to 20k price range. The ultimate goal is to find something that isn't going to leave me wanting and last several years. Therefore a good carbon frame with Ultegra or 105. I am down to 2 bikes: 2013 Scott Foil 40 which has a very good frame (according to reviews) and full 105 @R20k or a 2013 Merida Scultura Comp 905, again from what I have read has a good frame + Ultegra. I don't really know how good the Merida brand is. I'm really at a crossroads with this one.. The scott I can get from my local bike shop with a good discount (R20k is after discount) and post sale support. The Merida will come from JHB so I will need to courier it down and have a fitting at my local bike shop. Any suggestions, advise etc. Cheers, Paul
  15. Hey guys and gals i know a lot of MTbers ride on the dirt road section next to the R59 between Alberton and Meyerton. I would like to find out if there is anyone who wouldn't mind me tagging along on a weekend ride or so. Thanks Scott
  16. Howdee, It's that time of the year. I'm itching to upgrade. I decided I'm not upgrading parts, but selling my current bicycle and buying something new. I'm planning on selling a Scott Aspect 30. What would be a realistic asking price for it? It's stock standard, so it's entry-level everything. Suntour Fork/Alivio RD/Acera FD/Acera Shifters/Alex Rims/Tektro Draco Brakes. Some normal use scratches. I think it's a 2012 model, but bought it this year March. About 650km (100km dirt roads / 550km tar and commuting). I'm having a hard time getting realistic second hand prices... I saw two prices (R4k and R5k). That's a bit high right? That's about what I paid for mine new.

  21. Hi All I'm looking to upgrade my current 2012 Axis AR20C road bike, frame is 2 years old but the groupset is old Shimano 105 5500. I am looking at 2 models: Silverback Space 1 (Full Ultegra) or the Scott Foil 40 (amazing frame apparently but 105 groupset). So... does anyone own or can advise on these to bikes. Price ranges between 18k and 20k. Paul
