The first round of the season impressed those involved with the turn out of participants and level of racing in the younger age groups.   7. Morning all, I need some information. Is there any other downhill trails in Gauteng that is similar to St. Ives in KZN, or Hakahana? My first time at Hakahana wasn't fun, but I went back and thoroughly enjoyed it second time around. Does any of the other venues ( Big Red Barn, PWC etc ) in Gauteng have a "downhill" section, or something similar? Thanks Kevin

Solid-Reverse Factory Racing Team’s Stefan Garlicki (sponsored by Investec) took the Elite Men’s title and fastest time of the day at the Helderberg Trails in Somerset West for the Western Cape Downhill Provincial, which doubled as the first round of the South African National Cup Series, at the weekend.   9. Stefan Garlicki (Investec) won Round One of the South African National DH series at Helderberg Farm on a testing track on Sunday 28 February. Garlicki made it two-from-two at the venue (he won Round One of the 2016 Western Province Downhill series there two weeks ago) when he beat Jonathan Philogene and Johann Potgieter with a time of 02:53.277. The most memorable moment of the day was for Junior Christopher Philogene, when he beat the time set by multiple World Champion Greg Minnaar and took the overall men’s title.   14. Stefan Garlicki (Investec) won the first event in the 2016 Western Cape Downhill series held at Helderberg trails on Sunday 14 February, in a time of 02:49.213. The 2015 South African National Downhill Mountain Bike Champion edged out Andrew Neethling (Polygon UR) 02:50.680 and Adi Van Der Merwe (Solid) 02:59.314 - the only two other riders to go under the three-minute mark.   19. Troy tearing apart the Cairns UCI World-Cup DH Course in between experiencing the region and all its attractions. Troy got some quality time on course in the lead up to Round 2 this April, in Cairns, finding the fast lines that w years ago were layered with a foot of brown, sticky mud thanks to a post-cyclone deluge of rain. With round 2 fast approaching, the course is again gearing up to take on the worlds fastest athletes.
  20. Press Release: KZNMTB would like to extend its thanks to Greg and Travis at Greg Minnaar Cycles for having the foresight to come onboard as title presenting sponsors for the 2016 series. With the removal of the National DH series from the CSA calendar for 2016, the series will comprise 3 Cup rounds (2 of which will count towards National Cup Series points as well as KZNMTB Cup series), as well as 1 KZNMTB Championships event. Although not finalised yet, the series is likely to return to some tried and tested venues, as well as having a new Enduro venue on the cards.   22. The Helderberg Trails, despite having been open to the public for some time, held its official launch on 12 December. Helderberg Trails offers a variety of quality trails for all mountain bikers. Helderberg has become a favourite amongst Cape gravity riders for its steep technical trails and big bike park features.   23. Everybody's welcome! There will be Downhill and Enduro lines and categories, so anybody with a trail bike will be able to ride the course. For those of you who are new to the Gravity side of the sport, this is a great opportunity to see what it is all about. There will be extra bikes, helmets and protection, and some of the more experienced guys will be on hand to show you around. (Free, informal skills classes will happen on the practice day.) There will also be Banshee Spitfire bikes to demo on the Saturday. Practice will be on Saturday 22 August, and the "race" will take place on Sunday.
