I was wondering if there were any clubs or of groups at intermediate or lower level going on rides in the cane fields at Mount Edgecome on a Sunday morning? I was keen to join a club/group. I know there are guided rides on a Saturday morning but I can't make it then. I am happy to get my EMBA license to join a group on an weekly or adhoc basis.

Hello, I've got a "sticky" front axle, and the wheel is difficult to rotate. Spinning the wheel freely - off the bike - it rolls smoothly and noiselessly. Once I put the wheel in place and lock the axle in place, the wheel is difficult to spin. If I loosen the axle a bit, the wheel spins normally. But, then it is loose and not safe to ride. What could be the problem?

There is a long downhill section in this weekends Argus MTB called Ho Chi Minh (Strava appears to call it that), its the long narrow section with bamboo looking reeds (hence Ho Chi Minh) does anyone know if its publicly accessible? And from where?

Hi hubbers Semi-rooki mtber here, I'd just like to know if anyone can tell me if the Giant P-XC2 29er wheelset comes with Sealed bearing hubs? Are sealed hubs the way forward or is it a personal preference type of decision as I am needing to replace my wheelset and I know little about what I am needing to look for? Thanks for the help

This morning we saw a metallic red Mazda one tonner bakkie (Reg nr MRZ ...GP) with tinted windows with a bike rack on the back, parking at the pedestrian entrance to Hazeldean Farm on the Mooiplaas road in Pretoria East. Three individuals, not dressed as cyclists, got out and two went into Hazeldean farm along the road used by dozens of cyclists, on their way to Rosemary Hill. One of them stayed at the bakkie. The fact that these guys were very obviously not cyclists, wore jackets that can easily conceal weapons and the fact that they got out of the bakkie to walk into a field where cyclists normally cycle at that time of the morning, while the bakkie stayed behind seemed very suspicious to us. We carried on along the Mooiplaas road to avoid them, because neither of us were armed. Please be on the lookout for these guys because I am pretty sure that they are bike-jackers. If anyone sees the bakkie again, please see if we can get the complete registration number.

Wow, just read this article on Supersport's web page, incredible what a positive effect it had on the area, wish we could host more of these type of events. http://www.superspor...indelible_print After the dust has settled and the bike wheels stop turning the local organising committee of the UCI Mountain Bike Masters and MTB and Trials World Championships triggered an economic boom for the city of Pietermaritzburg and its broader regional economy worth R3 billion in direct economic activity and media exposure. The Masters competition alone had 591 competitors, largely South African but, if you include support staff and families the number of people that were in the city sits at an estimated 1 491 people over the duration of the event. The MTB and Trials World Championships was seen as the signature event of the whole stay and 903 riders were accredited to compete in the event. This coupled with the large support crews that the teams brought with them brings the overall figure to 1 866 people staying for the duration of the Elite World Championships. The economic impact can now be estimated and they have worked out a conservative estimate as to how much money each of the events would have brought into the city. Over the Masters event the estimate was slightly over R10.3 million. The Elite event saw the city pull in just under R33.7 million. These amounts were just for the competitors and crews over the two weeks of the competitions. The media contingent was just over 200 strong and that meant that they too were responsible for bringing in a fair sum of money into the city. It was estimated that the entire media contingent brought in just over R2 million in Pietermaritzburg over the duration of the World Champs. Adding up all of these figures means that all-in-all the event brought in an estimated total of R46 038 700 over the duration of both events. This coupled with the benefits that the event brought to the community of Pietermaritzburg tends to suggest it was a resounding success. In the final financial report from the event it is stated that the amount of spending from the participants in the event in the city cannot be accurately gauged which means that there is still a fair amount of money unaccounted for that has been injected into the local community through spending at restaurants, shops ect. The impact that the television production had on the event and on promoting the city was substantial due to the fact that the event was broadcasted all over the world. The event report suggests that the minimum coverage of the event will amount to a grand total of 196 hours which equates to a monetary value of approximately R 2.94 Billion. The event was broadcasted to five different continents with a number of television networks taking the feed from the venue in order to broadcast in their countries. Along with the television coverage the Redbull Media TV broadcasted the event and logged record traffic on the site throughout the event. The local organising committee spent over R3 million in the local communities and all of the people that were employed by them were locally sourced. All of the marshals, volunteers and any other person who was employed during the event gained skills and experience and this will benefit KZN MTB.
