  1. I am selling my Spec Epic ally 2x10 and picking up a Trek Super fly carbon. They both have Sram XO, however the Trek has a 3 ring front chain ring, and the shifters are in better condition. Can I simply convert the Treks 3 ring to 2 ring by removing a ring and setting the front shifter limit?
  2. Until recently, 9 spd derailleurs could work with 10 shifters and I imagine vice versa. So, can 11 spd derailleurs work with 10 spd shifters.? Any reason why Sram 22 derailleurs wouldn't work with 10 spd shifters.? Anybody with experience.?
  3. So I'm considering to start a new build later this year... However, last time that I bought / built a bike, 3x9 was the standard and you basically only had to choose between LX, XT and XTR based on what your budget would allow, or equivalently X7, X9 or X0 if you were in the SRAM camp. These days there's all the talk about 2X10's, 1X11, Clutch derailleurs etc. I'm a big fan of simplicity, so I'm quite excited about the 1X11 options out there, but from my understanding this is only available on the top end groupsets. Can anybody give a run-own on what options are available out there? i.e. can you purchase a SLX groupset in a 1 X 11 configuration? Can you buy a XT clutch derailleur, or are these options only available on the top end stuff? Reason I'm asking, is I place a higher value on having a good frame, good shock & fork and good wheels whilst caring less about my groupset e.g. being a SLX rather than a XTR, but want to know if I will be compromising my options.
  4. My chain broke into lots of pieces so I can't count how many links it was. I have a new one how do I determine the correct amount of links? It's a sram x7 3x10 system on a trek Superfly soft tail.
  5. I am seriously considering buying the 2013 Momsen X-AL because of it's really good spec (see below - apologies for the formatting) in relation to price, but I am apprehensive because none of the distributors have stock to test out. Basically I need to commit to a 50% deposit just to see it .... I know that the brakes and rims aren't the greatest, but I should be able to manage - any other boegies in the spec that I should watch out for? I have also read that the rims aren't the easiest to get tyres to seat onto in a tubeless conversion either .... Thanks for your comments!
  6. Hi all, I'm sure this topic has been covered before but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for an adapter to fit a Sram GXP crank into a PF30 frame. The ID of the bb shell is 42mm. Cheers
  7. I have a set of carbon sram rims on my hardtail 29er, I havnt had the bike long and I want to know how tough they are. I am training on them but worried they aren't tough enough and scared I may crack them. Any views on whether I should get a training set or just carry on on the carbon wheels.
  8. I've read that the smaller xxi spider and chainrings are more expensive to produce, thus the larger bcd on x01. http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/news/article/sram-x01-groupset-first-look-38021/ The only negative of this larger bcd the mention, is that you will not be able to run a front chainring smaller than 30. Are there any other notable factors to take into account?
  9. These are beautiful, wonder when they will be here in SA and how much?
  10. Hi can anyone give me some feed back / experience on the above combination, Ive used the 40 -28 before but found the 40 a bit big on the longer 75km + rides as I was always looking for the in between gear so swapped back to my 3 x 10, but find the 42 a bit big for my needs so spend too much time in the 32. I will change the 22 to a 24 or 26 which I prefer for steeper climbing. many thanks
  11. Please keep an eye open for my silver Pyga, stolen out of my Garage on Sunday evening, Stans ZTR Arch wheels, SRAM XO and Shimano XT components, Selle Italia saddle
  12. Hi Guys I am running out of speed on my current setup: SRAM 1170 Casette with 38/22 up front. Was thinking of cranking it up, so to speak, with a 42/28 combination. What do you guys think? Oh and it's on a 27.5. Will this be too much when I get to serious terrain or should I be able to push it?
  13. The brakes have plenty meat on still but when climbing on the brakes it sounds as if its metal on metal Checked the alignment of the caliper and all good Is it the pad ( metal / resin) Welcome some info please

    SRAM X5

Hi guys what's are the reviews on the SRAM X5???
  15. I walked into Finish Line Cycles in Edenvale recently, best bike shop in Johannesburg. To be greeted by a beauty, the new top spec Titan Carbon 29er Ultimate. It looked great and has some great components, full XX1, SRAM carbon wheels and RockShox SID XX. Then I saw the price...almost 60k. It looked a bit high, until I saw the beauty standing a few bikes away, a Momsen Vipa. Specs are almost the same, XX1 with front and rear suspension provided by Fox CTD and ZTR Crest wheels. And price...only 49k. Then I knew it, Titan lost the plot. I much rather have the Vipa. It just is a beter bike, not even mentioning the 10k you will save by buying one
  16. Need to replace the 42T chain ring on a 2 x 10 SRAM XO setup but am battling to find a smaller chainring. Majority I can find are 104 BCD and obviously that wont work. I would have liked to put on a 36T or even a 38T but just cant seem to find anything in 120BCD. I did see that Wolf makes a 36T 120 BCD but not sure if this is compatible with 2 x 10? And...Evobikes is out of stock anyway The other (expensive!) option is to replace the whole setup and go with a new 104BCD spider/crank/chainrings...but this is a last resort and I would prefer not to do this. Any suggestions on an alternative?
  17. Is anybody on here currently running the Race Face narrow wide chainring and if so could you provide real life feedback? I'm in two minds about purchasing one as I would like to loose the chainguide on my bike but not at the cost of shedding the chain. The setup will include a type 2 Sram x9 rear deraileur
  18. Continental, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Shimano, Giant Bicycles, Specialized Bicycles, Canyon Bicycles, Mavic, SRAM, Cannondale, Cube Bicycles, Alpine Stars, Fox Racing Shox, Mucky Nutz, Dirty Selle San Marco - it reads like a who’s who among bike brands, and it is. Click here to view the article
  19. New brakes from SRAM, and they look good! http://www.pinkbike....akes-22014.html Edit, I see there is already a top on this. Admins, feel free to delete / merge. http://ep1.pinkbike.org/p4pb10749429/p4pb10749429.jpg
  20. My Scott Spark Pro comes with a Sram Carbon S-2210 GXP PF, Carbon crankarm, 38Ax24A T. is this a re-branded X0?
  21. I am technically incompetent and am looking to install a stages power meter (basically a new left crank) on my two bikes - 2012 Trek Madone 6.9 SSL with SRAM Red 2013 Specialised Epic Marathon Mtb with Sram XO On the Stages website they have a GXP and BB30 crank options for SRAM, which is correct?? The Specised website shows the BB as a PF30?
  22. I eat chains, I am 97 KG and for some reason they don't last long, since July I have killed x3 Shimano Chains, SLX and XT. x2 Srams 1050 and 1090, honestly I think the Srams are better, and you get a quick link with them. I decided to try a TAYA chain from CWC, cheap R210, and was expecting it not to last long, OMG, the thing will not Die, it has outlasted any chain I have ever had and it still does not show .75 wear. amazing chain, highly recommended, I don't like their Quick link and just prefer the Sram or KMC quick link

    Chain

Still in the learning stage regarding bike parts etc. Couple of questions regarding chains: 1. What is the difference between a sram chain and a shimano chain? 2. Quick links are they generic or make specific? 3. MTB vs Road bike chains differance on a MTB will get Deore, XT etc. and on a Road Bike Tiagra, Ultegra etc.? 4. My son's road bike is equipped with an ultegra groupset(10spd) but on Saturday broke his chain and on closer inspection of the chain I have noted that it is on its way out, saw a few of the links at the pin side that there are some cracks. Now for the question what chain? Saw that CWC sells the Tiagra chain @ R299 (also know that Tiagra is mid range and Ultegra way above) and then there is this chain Shimano SLX HG75 or should I obtain an ultegra chain? Shimano SLX HG75 Shimano SLX HG75
  24. Last week at the Cycle Tour Expo we caught up with a few people in the industry on our famed couch. Jeremy from Cape Cycle Systems, distributor of SRAM in South Africa, gives us quick run down of what lies in store for SRAM. And hints at something electric on the cards. 25. Available to use in a web browser or on tablet and mobile devices, the software produces accurate 3D renderings of customisable mountain bikes with the aim of simplifying the selection of bike parts. Despite offering just two frame and fork options at present, the versatility of the configurator is impressive – there are options to alter everything, from the fork suspension travel to the colour of minor components such as spokes and brake lines. It's not just for looks though – the configurator can also display geometry information that alters as you cycle the fully working suspension. The attention to detail is incredible – for example SRAM's X9 rear mech can be disassembled to show its individual components. My attempt: You can also vote for frames and forks that you would like added to the configurator. Link: http://www.bikeconfig.com/
