What do you guys think of the Alonso story? A third night in hospital, FIA coming out syaing they are going to investigate and this morning there are rumors of him missing the opening round. All stories and usual gossip, but it doesn't add up to McLaren's statements and reports that it was a fairly minor brush with the wall.

On a lighter note, Sniff has this to say...

Alonso doc delivers bad news

Following his accident in testing two days ago, Fernando Alonso must stay in hospital for ‘at least another nine months’ according to his personal physician, Dr Ernando Falonso.

Speaking to reporters in an unusual and inconsistent accent, Dr Falonso said that his patient was suffering from ‘many, many conditions too complex to explain here’, adding that these unspecified illnesses were ‘definitely not worth asking any further questions about’.

Dr Falonso went on to explain that he had written a personal letter to McLaren insisting that the Spanish driver remain on ‘full pay’ but that under no circumstances was he to be ‘made to drive a McLaren F1 car at any point’ and added that, as a doctor, he personally prescribed ‘contract termination’ in or around November 2015.

According to a statement in Spanish released by Alonso this morning, the driver was ‘really disappointed’ at news that he will not be able to take part in the 2015 season. ‘Oh no, I’ve just realized something!’ the statement concluded (in Spanish). ‘This means I won’t be able to drive that car! Oh well! Good luck Jenson!!!!’

Sounds pretty fishy. The car was pretty intact for a 15G crash.

Sounds like a lot of the men out there aren't to happy about it.

If you are going to get a driver to test and develop the car I would rather find someone like Luca Badoer or Pedro de la Rosa. Unfortunately the days of unlimited testing are over, so the teams have to try to bring in new potential talent.

I have no idea how Carmen Jorda can add value to the team

If they're good, what's the problem?

Problem is Jorda is not

"Jorda has raced in Indy Lights and most recently GP3, where in 2012-2014 she finished the championship in 28th, 30th and 29th places respectively.

She qualified last in every qualifying session last year, before she was replaced at Koiranen by Dean Stoneman, who put the same car on pole in his first race with the team."

Ah. That settles it then. Publicity stunt, nothing more.

Now, if it was Danica Patrick they were considering, that would be a little better. But still a publicity stunt

Yip, sad and stupid.

"Following news that Lotus is to hire Carmen Jordá as a development driver, Formula 1 fans once again revealed age-old prejudices and outdated views as they took to the internet to criticize the Spanish driver simply because she is ****."

Post pre-season analysis on JAonF1

"If we wanted to estimate the underlying pace of the cars from this data it might give us this kind of ranking:

Fastest – Mercedes
+0.8-1.0s/lap – Williams
+1.0-1.2s/lap – Ferrari
+1.2-1.5s/lap – Red Bull Racing / Toro Rosso
+1.5-2s/lap – Sauber / Lotus / Force India / Mclaren"

So after all that cost and testing they could have used last years cars ;)

  Yeah, agreed. So this is another year of Goldilocks vs crybaby Hamilton. I really dont think I can stomach another year of that.

Hopefully some of them were holding something back otherwise it's going to be a long year for the other teams.

Marussia certainly will be!  :whistling:

Well, if you look at the available info Mercedes was holding back!  :nuke:  They were the only team who did not do any runs on the super soft tires.

There was another analysis that showed Ferrari's fastest times came after a very slow lap where they charged the hybrid systems to full capacity. If that's true then it won't be good for them. Or us. Or anyone.

Funny, those weren't you sentiments of Hamilton last year if I recall. Bit of a fanboy if I remember.............
