I want to but a Led Lenzer for MTB use. The L7, P7, M7 and T7 all come with bike mounts. Anyone here used any of these and which would you recommend?

The headlamps look good too, but the battery pack will not fit around the helmet, or has someone found a way to sort this out?

Thanx in advance.

My H7 fits around my helmet OK - maybe its a helmet shape issue - a small bit of double sided tape may help to hold it in place. The H7 is really awesome and I would seriously recommend it!

I have not tried to fit mine to my helmet, but I must say the light from the head unit my brother gave me is outshining my Petzel

Oh I have the H7. Worth the cost. And I must confess, I am using it for running at night.

I've got a P7 - where do you get the bike mount??

I recommend the H7R for helmet use, if you insist on going Led Lenser. My teammate in Trans used one last year.

Personally, if you want the ultimate helmet light, get a Fenix HP10. I used one strapped to my bike last year, and another one strapped to my helmet (with the battery pack velcro'd right at the top of the helmet, otherwise the weight of the pack makes the helmet slip back on your head. If the pack is in neutral, right in the middle, you don't feel it at all.

I have the M7 on the handle bar and the H7R (love that it is rechargeable :D) as a headlamp around the helmet no problem .. oh and a MJ808 just for incase! ;)

I started out with a lamp on the handle bars which is great but when doing single track and switchbacks the handlebar lamp is not always focused in the direction of where you want to go and that is where the headlamp comes in handy.

The M7 is advertised with 220 lumens vs the Magicshine with 800 lumens.

If I have these lights on at the same time the M7 is brighter and whiter?? Ok given that the MJ808 is a flood light and the M7 can be focused which I suppose also makes a big difference.

Tankman, the H7R is nice, but what put me off is that it uses AAA batteries, where my Fenix HP10 uses AA. My teammate had to swop batteries, mine lasted the whole Trans. The highest mAH batteries I've seen in AAA is around 1000-1200mah, where I had 2700 mAH batteries in my Fenix, more than double the life.

HP10 does 120 lumens, with a 220 lumens boost mode that lasts for 2 minutes. You would think 120 lumens is little, its not. I was able to rocket down Bergplaas like it was daylight. The MJ808 does how many lumens on low beam? 300-350 ? CLAIMED, of course. That's what my teammate rode with on his bike. The 120 lumens from my Fenix seemed brighter...

Huge difference between proper lumens and salestalk lumens...

I'll tell you what I did last year @ Trans. I ordered 10x AAA to AA battery adapters, little plastic jobbies that "size up" AAA batteries to the size of AA batteries. I kitted my helmet and bike out with (adapted) AAA's. Why? It will give 2-3 hours runtime just incase you don't get to the top of Bergplaas in the day. You'd also be supprised how much weight difference there is between 8x AAA compared to 8x AA. Lots. At the top of Bergplaas I quickly changed the adapted AAA's to proper 2700 mAH's for the night shift. They lasted to the end as they give about 7 hours @ 120 (quality) lumens.

I'm placing an order for 5 of these lights. My folks want as well as friends of mine. We're all going for a night hike soon.

Not the quality of a Fenix or Led Lenser, but for R140 odd you can't beat it. I paid over R400 back in the day for my Petzl Tikka Plus, and its useless these days...

now you are confusing me Azonic  you are put off by the HR7' AAA batteries but you order 10 with AA adapters because they are lighter and they you use them?

Which will last longer 3xAAA or 2xAA? Sticking 3xAA in the HR7's battery pack will make it to heavy on the helmet I think.

A buddy of mine has one that looks similar to this ... not sure if it is the exact same one or the first one you posted.

I took out my Ledlenser and I was like "you got to see this!" and he was like "what, where?" "Check this out!"

Gave the Ledlenser a hiding... sorry to say but it was much brighter and cheaper.

Clearly I lost you somewhere...

I ordered 10 (cause that's how many were in the packet) adapters (AAA to AA), like this one...

So, my Fenix uses AA batteries. But by using the above, I used AAA (smaller and lighter and lower capacity) batteries in it. To see why, re-read my previous post.

Asking which will last longer, 2xAA or 3xAAA, the 2x AA will last longer. The 3x AAA's will just give you a higher voltage, but usually not a longer running time (mAh).
