This is sad, I also cannot justify the permit as i don't ride there often enough, but do enjoy the times I do. I usually start at Hazendal but on my last visit they mentioned we can no longer pay or start there, on asking where we could pay they could not give us an answer so we left. We were one of about 3 parties that arrived to ride. This type of management may encourage the "I came all this way so im riding anyway attitude".

i thought you said 50k radius. guess it depends which part of ct you're in. haven't ridden the others, but also take into account the natural terrain the trail builders have to work with. so tygerberg would never be above jonkers bacause there aint no mountains. not looking for a fight, just pointing out peoples different opinions.

think i'll start a new poll on this.

Obviously its all subjective, all I am saying is that in my opinion the tygerberg trails are Ok'ish, they don't rank high up on my list of fun things to do, they don't totally suck either, but they are not spectacular. I pay my club fees every year simply because i work close to the trails, and i do my after work rides there mostly because you can't do botthills at night, I live 2km away from Hazendal. If I had the option to ride bothills till 9pm at night i would see no particular reason to join the club again.

Back on topic...

+1 for allowing night riding until 9pm or 10pm on the Bottelaryhills trails.

R400 pa is not cheap. In winter the "no after dark rule" limits access to the trails to weekends only for those of us stuck in offices... (and during summer the Stellenbosch temperatures often also prohibits day time rides).

I know there are security concerns, but having riders on the farms after dark could actually enhance security. Just publish a number to call when riders notice suspicious activity (Devonvalley farm watch?). We need to find a win-win situation where landowners actually want us cyclists on their property.

Something to consider with the change to an "annual permit only" trail...

Hi Covie

Riding is from sunrise to sunset ....... if you need a bike light to see where you're going then you're either too early or you should've been off the trails already.

Besides the whole farm security issue with riding at night we are also a conservancy. Almost all the mammals that occur here are nocturnal and the only peace and quiet they get is at night. Any form of light or activity disturbs them and places them under unecessary stress.

Got our 2013 permits today.

OK, so no riding during hours of darkness.

Will still be good if there is a number to phone to report any suspicious activity.

Any decision yet on the visitors / guest rider issue?

Annual permit prices have been adjusted for the remainder of 2013 and are available at all annual permit selling points. Take note that these permits are only valid till 31st December 2013.

I'm not going to say too much about the "New Green Loop" other than it will test your climbing skills and fitness level. But of course you can dismount and push when you run out of gas and still get to enjoy the view from the top. I'll reserve further comment for those who ride it tomorrow.

The big build for the year is a new addition to the Red and Purple routes and arrives as an optional addition to your ride. Be aware however that it is more technical and challenging than our existing routes. It requires some bedding in and will be tricky in places so have your wits about you. You're bound to grin or even smile on the way down, but the climb back out will wipe that off your face. The image is a rough one as I haven't plotted it yet but you'll get the idea. So if you up for a challenge then look out for the signage as indicated on the image. Adds about 2,5km to your ride.
