You ask "shock", he replies "fork"...which is it you want to know and for what type of riding. Sid is for sure their top XC fork but its not their best trail or AM or DH fork.

Its gets confusing as they have different versions of each model. So multiple Darts and Multiples SIDs. There could be crossover in 'goodness' between the models.

I hear ya on that! Like apparently a Reba XX is better than the lower end SIDs?!

I don't know much about XC forks, but if in doubt...

go for the most expensive :P

...different understandings of the meaning of fork and shock!!!

Sincere apologies for my mistaken identification. If I am a weekend warrior and I am looking at buying a 29er (Dont start!)now the GT Zaskar 9er Expert it has a Rock Sjock Reba RL and retails for +- R 15 000.00 now the Scott Scale 29er Elite has a Rock Shock Recon Gold for the same bucks!

Now my question is between these two bikes I like the Scott more since I ride a scott road bike. Now if the Rock Sjock Reba RL is a better/higher quality, then it would make sense to purchase the zaskar, therefore my question?

I looked at the website and the only differnce I can see is th Rl has remote lock out while the R doesnt other than that same fork

In terms of XC range it goes like this starting from the top

SID (Golf)

REBA (Polo)

RECON (Vivo)

Tora (Your parents Jetta)

Dart (Your mothers beetle from before Uni)

In terms of settings:

R = Rebound

L = Lock out

C = Compression

C2 = Low and High Speed Compression

TK = Turn Key (Ability to absorb big hits even when locked out)

The main difference between the RLT and RLT Ti is going from regular Motion Control to Blackbox Motion Control (Motion Control is a fancy way of saying the fork still compresses a bit even when locked out).

The RLT Ti upgrades to Dual Flow compression rebound damping (separate high- and low-speed) versus just low-speed, and a titanium sleeve rather than thermoplastic for Motion Control. They both have Floodgate

And then the range gets split into levels

XX (GTI)

Team (TSI)

Or Ti and Std

I think this is over simplifying things.

IMHO the reba is better than the sid because it is stiffer and tavel can go to 120mm. the weight penalty is minor.....point is, and crow did allude to it, is that it depends on riding style..

To answer your question.reba is dual air...infinite adjustability....great if you know what you are doing....recon is solo air....not as good but pretty much the same as a fox ;) .works well and a little heavier.

The zaskar 29er represents best value for money...if my memory serves me right...

But a GTI Polo is better then the 1.6 Golf and a 1.6 Vivo is beter then a 1.4 Polo. I'm talking performance, not features.

Sure, Mampara. So that's when you need to decide whether you want basic Sid or TOR Reba. But from the outside the Golf will appear to be the better car and you will get people who'll buy it just for that. Think Audi A3 vs Golf. Same Engine, same gearbox, same platform, same same same, but the Golf sells for less and the Audi has higher brand value and appeal!

In years gone by Reba was stiffer than SID but not so much anymore. SID shook its shakes two years ago and now you'll be hard=pressed to feel the difference. Value for money I'd go for a Reba. And having adjustable rebound and compression is more important than SID or Reba.

The latest Bicycling mag compares 10 29ers..including the scott and the GT. Go check it out.
