I hint to her all the time, but she ignores me.

I will have my revenge. Her birthday is in two weeks time and I am getting her a new ironing board.....

Happy birthday dude , you just made my day LOL

So you're doing the opposite and spoiling her. If I'm you I would remove 5 links from her chain so that she just can not get comfortable on the loo.

 the CD and clothes, that happens when you let her out of the kitchen....

happy birthday man. Somthing like this happened to me a few years ago. I went out and spent alot of money on me for my hobby. Needless to say the wife was very surprised/ or is it dumb founded. not sure but anyway I felt lekker just looking at her reaction when she asked and I told her how much I spent. Obviously the reason was my birthday, but be careful how you play it too

I don't want to put a serious slant on what may well be a tongue in cheek thread but...

Maybe I haven't been married long enough, but I have to say I am a bit taken aback by how some people seem to view their spouse! I was kinda thinking that people were really JOKING about marriage being like a war but from some of the comments here, it seems like it is the reality in some homes.

Which is sad - I would hate to be at loggerheads with my wife on a long term basis - enough to make anyone miserable. So my 2c - if you are in a marriage like this where you are miserable, it's a bit like Shawshank redemption - either you get busy fixing or you get busy divorcing. I don't advocate divorce (ESPECIALLY if there are kids involved) so that should be a VERY last resort. But ultimately if your wife buys you something you don't like and you retaliate by buying her something she doesn't like, where does that leave you? Both of you are pissed off and resentful. How about listening and buying her somethign she REALLY wants and spoiling her on her birthday. Maybe then she will think more carefully about what to get you next time your day rolls around? That old chestnut "be a friend to have a friend" thing. I challenge those who are in a cold war with their partners to try it out and see what happens. REMEMBER - you may have to do it two or even three times to prove you are not "up to something"!
