I invested in some winter gear... I highly recommend a pair of Endura Singletrack pants...

Keep out the cold - plus have zipped vents for when you need it to breathe...

buy a winter running vest ie the one with long arms and wear it under your cycling jersey with armwarmers.

i use woollen gloves as they work better than fancy long fingered gloves sold by the lbs.

wear legwarmers.

wear buff and shape it into a beanie to cover the ears.

on really cold days i'll wear toecaps.

Cold I can handle. Rain I can handle. Wind (u guessed). But dark? Never had a problem with that either until Thursday evening coming back from a stunning ride only to get squeezed on fast traffic and blinded by oncoming headlights on a bend... could NOT see where I was or how far from the drop off and couldn't slow down either!

Yay.

I love winter.

great sunset, specially as it was nearly my last!!

Mantra: those who cycle know when they get to outpace the bad stuff. Mostly. I think?

Corollary: cycling at night in traffic is not the place to find new mantras.

Hmmmm! Good point ..

The worst to get cold is ears, nose, mouth, hands and feet!

From top to bottom I Currently have

Headband - block the wind through your helmet and on your ears

Buff - Face and nose

Top - One of those thin parachute materials jols to stop the wind (These are amazing), as well as a thicker vesty thing underneath that on really cold days.

Armies - Naaah, the top above does a good enough job.

Gloves - I bought myself some Endura Deluge gloves from CRC, I have never complained about the cold in these, even in minus degrees weather! They have a fleece

type material on the inside and are waterproof too, plus they have a wrist fastener to prevent wind popping in from the back.

Leggies - Your standard leggies.

Feet - (And here's where they make fun of me :P ) I wear those short stockings under my socks (They make a big difference) and on freezing days I wear Endura overshoes as well,

these probably fall in the same category as bar ends on riser bars that some people seem to hate (I bribe the fashion police :P ). You can make fun of overshoes all you want

but they do cut back the cold and also stop splashes and dew from grass getting your feet wet!

That is a lot of kit. Where and at what time do you cycle? I am still wearing standard kit with arm warmers in Fourways

Midrand - Usually 6pm, though if we head out to to Northern Farms the temp is about 4-5 degrees lower than in Midrand !
